How Do I Choose A Career

How do i choose a career ?

The best test is the Strong Interest Inventory. If you are a college alumni, you might want to go to your career services center to ask to take it. Unfortunately, this test is not available on-line. It takes a few minutes, but is the best test for assessing career options. A career counselor can also be of assistance.

Why did you choose your career?

Money is not everything if you do not enjoy your job. Period.
I am a nurse and it's a very rewarding career. Keeping in mind, that most of your experience in your job will depend on the people you work with. One nursing job I had was wonderful, while another - the actual job was outstanding, the other people I worked with made it miserable.

Finding a job that you will look forward to going to everyday will also add to personal happiness in other areas of your life. Not dreading going to work is a great thing.

My advice is to find a job that you can really feel personal satisfaction out of - and spend some time really looking for a place where you hear from word of mouth that it is a good place to work.

For the record - my job is a passion.

There are three ways we end up in a career —a) Career by Chanceb) Career by Design orc) Career by ChoiceThe first one (Career by Chance) is the most common and very very common for your first career. Whether you are an engineer or doctor or lawyer or clerk, you happened to get in there. I had no clue about what Engineering career is but I started my career as a software engineer, purely because I studied computer science. I studied Computer science because it was attractive and I got an opportunity to study. In the hindsight, I would be lying if I say I did computer science because f was very interested in that subject. Most people get in the flow and pick up a job based on what is offered or what is available. It’s hard to know true interest and strength at an early age. Once you get into a line, you keep walking in the same line till a disruption happens or you got really bored.I started my second career after working 17 years in Motorola. I started NICEFIT Career Consulting - a career consulting cum recruitment farm to enable right people in right jobs. I have designed my career around my strength and interests. Besides the recruitment and career consulting services, we have developed a learning and assessment portal (www.nicefitlearning.com) to help people understand their strengths and to help them design their careers. I call this Career by Design.I have designed my career here. A third type of career is choosing a career purely based on your passion and interests and not focusing on any material benefits. In my third career, I wish to focus only on writing and social services. So, what career you choose depends on your context, your career stage and your personal compulsion, aspiration or passion. As you start your career, go by career by chance. It will help you explore different careers. Try to solve your financial needs in the first career and then go after a second or third career based on career by design or career by choice

I can't choose a career path!?

Go take a bubble bath and then come back and read the rest of my answer...

Back yet? Good... Now you're not so stressed. Just relax and know that everyone has that problem. Everyone is afraid that they could take a different path and what would be best. That is part of why decision making is so hard. If you enjoy what your family does, do it. If you enjoy doing something else, do that! Do whatever makes you happiest. There are plenty of ways to make money, and you may have to work harder doing something that makes you happy (art is a great example) but why would anyone want to work in a job that makes them so unhappy that they just want to give up every day, but make millions? Ridiculous I tell you. Sit down and think about what makes you happiest and go with that path. As far as careers are concerned, doing what makes you happiest will be your best bet. You will find someone that makes you happy anywhere, eventually. Hey, you may meet him tomorrow. You don't know. There is no guarantee. Just go with the flow on that one and hope for the best. I hope you decide the best for yourself. Good luck!

How to choose the RIGHT career?

There is no "right" career.

People change their career many times through their lives either due to changing job markets, reinventing themselves or something else.

There is no job that can guarantee you money or a comfortable living.

No one know what they want to do when they're in 8th grade. What they are trying to do is get you to think about it. You can always change your mind. Talk to the college/career counselor about it. Think of things you enjoy doing and whether or not it will pay your living expenses. If it does, go with it. If not, keep it as a hobby and try something else.

How do you define the right career for yourself? The career, which you like, may not be good for someone else due to liking, family situation or any other personal factor and the right career for others may not be good for you. Therefore, this is very subjective and personal choice. Since you have not mentioned - what you have done or doing, I have limitation in answering. This is common problem everyone faces at some stage. Here is a simple process you should follow to find out a right career path for yourself:List out your career choices - you may list a large number - list all of them in first attempt. Then find out more information & take a decision on each of them. If required take help of your friend, family members, teachers or any other senior person you have access to. Understand each option and start reducing your list based on your own criteria, information and choice.Contact any career counselor or any other person or site to take personality assessment test to find your personality traits. This will help you matching your personality traits and interest with your choice. This personality test gives you opportunity to identify your own good & not so good personality traits, which you can work on, which will help you all through you life. If you wish you can visit our site - www.career-pathfinder.in. Or call on 9810160749.Never go for any other intelligence or assessment tests, as these are very misleading. You can also add any career choice during this process, which you have missed or didn’t like it in your first selection or have come to know about it now.I am sure you will end-up very soon with 2 or 3 choices. Then it will be easy for you to narrow down your final career path.Consider the full profile of a career path or job or profession - not just subject/course or few aspects of a job profile, such as - a well-dressed Army or police officer impresses many of us. Don’t give undue weightage to earnings in this career selection process. The right career will give you more better life, peace, pleasure and everything including money. In case if you are confused in last two or three choices, then gather more information on each of them and then take a final view. Don’t worry this a very common & normal scenario.Don't go by just advice & suggestions, but listen to every suggestion, however consider your choice first based on your advantage or limitations.Hope this helps.

It is too early in life for you to choose a career. Please keep in mind career is AFTER you have done something, not what you plan to do. What you are anxious about is which profession you should go into. Anxiety will always make you take a wrong decision. Take it easy, go step by step - first choose your basic education (graduation onwards) wisely. You have to chose what basic education you should take to become competent for a profession. For that, you will have to look at yourself, your likes and dislikes, and most of all what you are good / bad at. Only you know that; others know nothing about it - even your parentsIf you are not proficient in Maths, there are a lot of choices which are not meant for you: Engineering, Physics, Economics, Statistics etc. If you hate the sight of injuries and blood, medical studies is not the line to take. If you are not able to relate to business and industry, Commerce is not for you. Conversely, if you like the idea of teaching, just about ANY line is good. Or if you are really persevering in research, a PhD in Engineering, Physics, Biological Sciences etc. is the direction to take. Doing Arts is a good choice if you want to target getting into Civil Services etc.Don’t let anyone try to convince you that success is guaranteed by doing MBA after a graduation in any subject. The only job you will ever get by that is in low-level Sales or Marketing. For deserving anything serious, you will have to get work experience of a few years before doing MBA - you will not understand anything taught in MBA otherwiseYour choice of profession will change many times between now and when it is the time to choose a professionSuccess shouldn’t be the goal of life. Whatever you do, put in your best - you are bound to succeed. Don’t take shortcuts - it never pays!Don’t try to do what you love to do (people taking this route fail most often) - love whatever you doDON’T chase money. If it is ordained for you, it will come. What matters is a balanced life, a balance between professional achievement and personal / family needs. If you chase money, you will realize after a very long time what you have lost in the bargain. And it will be too late then!
