How do i upload a GIF animation to Youtube?
Well i made a GIF animation and converted it to AVI so i could upload it to MyspaceTV (But i assume i'd have to do the same for youtube), but it drasically cut the length (from like 3 minutes to 9 seconds), and i dony know why. What format could i upload it to or what could i do to make the length stay the same?

Open Paint (on Windows XP Start Bar: Programs -> Accessories -> Paint) Create an image 506 X 415 pixels (the default dimensions for Pivot 2.2.5): File -> New, then Image -> Attributes -> Width=506 and Height=415, click 'OK'. Put what you want on it. Save as 24-bit BMP: File -> Save As -> name the file and change the 'save as' type to 24-bit BMP. Click 'Save'. In Pivot: File -> Load Background and find and select your background BMP. Click 'Open'

What is the best open source framework for programmatically producing .mov or .flv video files?
This isn't a comprehensive answer, but I'd recommend taking a good look at Blender. While it has a bit of a steep learning curve, there are lots of tutorials for both 2d and 3d animation. The reason I recommend this over stop-motion animation is that you can easily go in and edit both the animation as well as the objects in various frames, without having to deal with thousands (24 frames/s * 60 s/min * 5 min) of image files.You can even start with just a simple square that's textured with a drawing of a stick figure, and have that move around. Then switch the square to a figure with joints and limbs, and make the motion look more natural. It'll be a good skill to have for when you need it, and who knows, you might get carried away and start working on a scene for the next toy story ;)
