How do I convince my parents to get me a cat?
My mother was much the same as your parents. She never liked the idea of animals as pets. It’s a mentality that she grew up with from her younger years. Her mother put it in her head that animals were strictly for outside. So whenever we had pets they were kept outside or in the garage. Only in winter would she make an exception. I lost my cat a year ago and during that time I became depressed and when my mom asked me why I said it was because I missed my cat. She coldly told me to grow up. She even went as far as to say that she would never allow me to adopt another pet because it had impacted me so much. Well, OK… that didn't work. So I told her the truth. I wasn't really depressed, just wanted a companion. Fast forward to a couple of months: my friend called me saying there was a kitten living under her porch and seeing as the mother cat never returned for her, she was in need of a home. I jumped in my car and drove over to her house, scooped the kitten up and took it home. I snuck it in my room and she fell asleep right away. Then I went to my mom who was in the laundry room and told “Hey mom, y’know how we have mice?” “Yes,” “Well what if I told you that we can get rid our mice problem in under one month.” Really, that wasn't possible after all my kitten was 7 weeks old at the time. She could barely walk. But you gotta sell the product to the client. Make them feel like they need it in their life. “ Well, I found someone who can get rid of them, do you want to meet her?” My mom looked shocked “Oh, they're here right now? OK.” and then I bought in the exterminator. “OH,” my mom said in understatement. But after she saw the helpless kitten she couldn't say no. And that my friend, is how I got my mom to agree to let me keep a kitten. She didn't know it, but that kitten had magical powers that made any human feel at ease, and fall in love with her instantly.

Ok, let me start with some (not all) of the folks that have answered - are ya'll just crazy or what? You can't just go out and get another without permission - it's the parent's house, not the questioner. Perhaps, as one said, the parents are still upset about the loss of the 20 yr old cat, and are not ready to "replace" it yet. Also, that cat lived 20 years, are you ready or your parents to give that kind of commitment to another animal, or will you be leaving for college, marriage....and leave the cat with them. Then, you have to respect their wishes. Pictures of kittens are all cute (never saw one that didn't melt my heart) - but the responsiblity of a kitten is great. You must teach him/her everything, not to mention the cost of new kitten vet care, litter, food, toys and everything else. Talk to your parents, tell them why you would like a new cat (not just that it's cute and here's a picture...). If you have a job, offer to pay "rent" for the kitten to cover any cost (they can put it in a .... pardon the pun....a kitty fund) - and assure them, when you leave, the kitty will go with you if THEY wish. Perhaps they might, if they decide to get it, want to keep it with any companion animals they may already have. My son wants to come home and take "his" cat to Alaska (I live in SC)- even though he's in the military and on deployment often - and I told him absolutely not. The cat has been in our care since he was born, and have his buddies he lives with. I explained it would be cruel to separate an older cat from his buddies, and if he wants a cat that bad, he should go to a local shelter and adopt, but be prepared to have a cat-sitter or back-up owner ready in case he has to move overseas (which is likely).

I had to campaign for a kitten for quite a while before I gave up and just happened to bring one home. I do not reccomend randomly bringing home animals. Try making a price list. Price the food, litter, box, toys, vet bills, ect that come with owning a pet. Once you know how much money you're going to need start saving. Proving to your mother that she won't be financially responsible for your animal will make a big difference. Most vets sell "kitten packages" which is the first year's shots and such for about $100. Plan where you would put the box so that the house won't smell of cat. Is she worried about the claws? Tell her you know how to clip them twice a month so that the cat can't scratch. I don't reccomend having a cat declawed. Declawing a cat, in my opinion, is cruel. The vet has to go in and remove the first nuckle of the animal which means they're basically cutting off their "finger tips." Can you imagine how incredibly painful cutting off your finger tips would be? Get Kittens for Dummies and read it while around your mother, show that you're serious about taking care of your animal. Try asking to adopt from the pound, you'll be saving a kitten's life...and she'll be helping by allowing you to do so. Look up facts online such as; did you know that a kitten in born in the US every 4.2 seconds? A cat is destroyed every 7 seconds. Keep working on it, I'm sure she'll cave. After all who can argue with an imformed, prepared, determined daughter? Good luck!

First of all please don't panic, Often people will say these sorts of things when they are frustrated or mad. It may be that once your parents have had some time to calm down about the situation then they will have a change of heart about returning your cat. Sunday is a few days away and there is still time to show them how much you love your cat and are willing to help teach the cat how to wee somewhere else. make sure that your cat isn't being shut into a room by accident, and that there is their litter tray somewhere they are familiar with ( ideally not near her food as cats don't like this). Give your cat lots of cuddles and praise when she uses her litter tray and maybe go to her litter tray with her every now and again when you can if she likes to follow you around. It is likely that because she comes from a dirty house where presumably the cats will be peeing everywhere, she doesn't realise that this is bad. If you can prove that you are willing to make the effort with your cat, I am sure that your parents wont have the heart to take her away from you, and they probably wouldn't want to when it came down to it anyway. Good luck I wish you all the best
How to convince my parents to get me a third cat?
Well, i think it's quite selfish wanting another cat when you already have two. But i think you should tell your parents the facts (That people don't want older cats & why should they spend there life behind bars.) And also i think that you should look at Wiki How it's a website that might help you persuading your parents to get another cat. Tell them that you would pay for everything and that you would like to help an older cat even though you have just got a new one, and that because it's older it wont live for as long as your other ones so whilst it's alive it would be nice for it to have some friends, But when/if your buying it you need to be sure that it would get along with the cats you already have because you don't want it fighting with them.
How will I convince my parents to allow me have a cat?
Our daughter at the age of 16 desperately wanted a small dog. And would constantly ask for one near her birthdays and Christmas’s because her friends had one too. Ever hear that before?Anyway, as parents we knew once she was 17 going on 18, her lifestyle would change immeasurably (like ours did when we were teens, such a long time ago!) and would be out socially all the time and that would be her life.We both suffer from allergies to pollen and cat/dog hair, me especially, but we didn’t use this as the reason, only that her reasons for owning a dog weren’t sound. She recently turned 18, January 2018, and decided she would adopt two dwarf hamsters instead, so we allowed that to happen, knowing full well what would happen.Four months later, she got bored of them, she was never home to look after them, though we made sure she was the one to feed and clean them out.Literally yesterday, 9th June 2018, they were adopted by a work colleagues daughter. Our daughter has never mentioned about getting a dog again, probably by the looks we gave her when getting rid of her hamsters, no need for words.Animals aren’t toys or things to own or a fashion accessory to keep up with your friends.
