How Do I Enlist In The Idf

Can a person be still eligible to enlist in the IDF until the age of 25+?

Thank you for the A2A.Generally yes, depending on if the IDF needs you and what you're interested in doing. In terms of being drafted, generally that wont happen at 25+, and if it does, its usually for a shortened service program called shlav bet (second stage). This involves basic training followed by a training course to get an army qualification and then a very short service before joining the reserves. This is of course if you are interested in doing just any job in the armed forces, which usually boil down to the typical things like base security, truck driving, peeling potatoes, and so on. Should you prefer to do a specific job requiring a lot of training, there will be other considerations. If you are a dentist, doctor, engineer, lawyer, or other in demand profession, you may be drafted into your 30s for full service. If you are volunteering, you should be able to join into your early thirties for many programs, but as others have pointed out, be prepared to be with eighteen year old soldiers, nineteen year old sargents, and twenty year old junior officers. Volunteering will sometimes require an additional time commitment, keep in mind that the more the army invests in you in terms of training, they expect to see that in return. If you are interested in joining a combat unit, you will probably have to do one program following another, basic training and then combat training with a new unit. Expect to serve a minimum of two years and perhaps longer, depending on the unit. There are many more details to this, I recommend speaking with the IDF representative at the enlistment center (lishkat ha’giyus) or the IDF representative at the consulate/embassy (netzig tzhal) for more specific deals. I would also look into programs like Mahal Volunteer, Enlist, Serve & Join the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) and VFI - Sar El The National Project for Volunteers for Israel

Do you have to be Jewish or Israeli to join the IDF???

Either Jewish or Israeli or both, but for Israeli citizens that are not Jews IDF service is optional.

*The IDF does not accept those who are neither Jews nor Israeli citizens because of security concerns. http://dover.idf.il/IDF/English/informat... You can contact them if you like ( http://dover.idf.il/IDF/English/informat... ) and they will tell you the same thing.

Question about the IDF?

The answer is very simple. If you are already an Israeli citizen, then wether you are in the process of conversion, after conversion or not doing conversion at all - makes no difference. Army will draft you if you are eligible. You are eligible if you are born in Israel or made aliya before the age of 24. In the army they offer special conversion for those who wishes to do so. If you are planning to apply for citizenship based on your conversion then you will only be able to become a citizen after your conversion is done. And obviously you can not join IDF before you become a citizen. SImple as that.

And to Crying Poet: you sound like a person trying to impersonate Jew and give us bad name. According to Judaism converts are regarded completely equal. In fact you are forbidden to ask if a person is a convert or not. In practice converts are perfectly accepted.

How can I join IDF Israel Defense Forces?

I am not sure that it is possible to do if you are not holding an Israeli ID or passport (you don't have to be Jewish, just to be an Israeli). Think what would happen if I would want to join the US forces and I am not an American. I would most likely be rejected. Still, I think that if you will be persistent you might get a chance, but you will have to knock on quite a few doors for that. I think that the best place to start at is to talk to someone in the Israeli embassy in the US, convincing them you are serious. I would also try to reach some Jewish lobbyists in the congress/senate to add some additional pressure, but I will do that only if you'll get a negative response from the embassy.

good luck

Can a non-Jewish, non-Israeli person join the IDF?

Israeli CITIZENS --regardless of religion-- are generally drafted to serve in the IDF; some receive exemptions for specific reasons.
However, it is not common for non-Jews from abroad to serve. (Non-citizens are never asked to serve, and joining the IDF is not easy in such circumstances.) This is a little different in the case of Jews from abroad who want to help defend the one Jewish state in the world.
There are very rare exceptions in which a non-Jew from abroad has pursued the goal of serving in the IDF. See: http://fr.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?pa...

The more common route for non-Jews from overseas to devote time to the IDF is via a program known as Sar-el. http://www.sar-el.org/

Should I Join the IDF Before or After College?

well what you have to consider is this. If you go to the army after college, you will be older than the other soldiers. Unless you join the Atuda program which is people who study before the army and then sign years for the army, it is a program lead by the military itself, you will join with people who are 18 years old when you are 21. People as old as you will only be your bosses who you will not be allowed to feel close to because of how the army works. Now, that is not necessarily a problem to everyone, but you might feel that the people around you are not of your same mental state.

You will also be in the army at an older age which would mean you would be released at an older age, if you sign no time for the army you would still only be free to go at 24, which by then you might have different aspirations, perhaps be looking to get a family together soon.

Most people in Israel go to the IDF before they study because that is how the law generally works. You must go to the military and generally you must do it before going to the university. Good/bad grades are irrelevant, the best of students and the smartest people I know joined the military first and then went to study (well except for those who nailed the degree while in highschool).

Way to do an Aliya [:

What is the age limit for joining the IDF?

This might be helpful :Israeli Defense Service Law - WikipediaBTW this law applies to permanent risidents as well, so as you can understand there is no actual “volunteering “ to IDF . The term “ volunteer “ usually used in IDF for someone who mustn’t be recruited ( for medical reasons , for example ) but still decides to serve . I’ve served with the guy suffered from A-type Diabetis who had volunteered to the service.

Is HIV a medical disqualification for serving in IDF?

You do have another option... Ask the IDF!

What are the requirements for joining the IDF and How do you join the IDF?

Israeli citizens are required to serve in the IDF by law. That means that every boy and girl, receive a summon at the age of 17, for exams and evaluation. These summons continue until the end of high school when they are enlisted and join the IDF.There are quite a few kids that are dismissed from service due to various reasons: medical, religious studies for boys, declaration for girls of being religious. Being a Muslim will usually get you free. Athletes, excellent sportsmen and musicians will enlist but serve a very easy service allowing them to peruse their career.Ig you are a non Israeli Jew, you may contact the Israeli embassy where you live and ask there, how you could enlist, otherwise, the IDF is not for you.More about the IDF:Israel Defense Forces
