How Do I Explain This To My Teachers

My teacher lost my work. Now I have an F, how can I explain this to my dad..?

Being a teacher, I have to tell you I have kids tell me that I lost their work all the time, only to have them find it in their desks or backpacks later. However, I have also- albeit rarely- misplaced students' work from time to time over the years. It happens. If you were one of my students, and you came to me and had an honest conversation with me, I'd work something out with you. Meet you halfway at least. And if I found your work later, I'd apologize and raise your grade after calling your parents. If your teacher isn't the "talking to" type (I know there are some out there) I'd just suck it up and do the work again after talking with him/her. If he/she won't hear your side, then I'd say, "I turned it in already, but I want you to know that I'm going to do the work again, even though you lost it." THAT would say volumes about you as a person and probably blow the teacher's mind. It would at least show them that you're a stand-up kid who, while polite and honest, won't back down and will meet every challenge they put in front of you. Especially if it's too late. Imagine handing in an assignment to a teacher who already told you it's too late. Man. That says a lot about a kid.

How should I explain to my teacher that I was cheating on the test by looking at my classmates’ tests but didn’t get any answers from them?

You shouldn't explain that to the teacher because you were still cheating. You looked at your classmate's test. Even though you didn't take their answers directly, you still saw what they were doing. Cheating is cheating, no exceptions. In the future, look at a wall or the ceiling rather than someone else's test. I have to do this sometimes when I am thinking of how to solve the problem. You can look for extra credit opportunities to bring your grade back up or try really hard on your other assignments. However, don't try to justify your cheating. You still did it.

How do I explain my ADD to my teachers?

If you get a doctors note then legally your teacher will have to acknowledge your ADD and will have a specific lesson plan for you (called an Individualized Education Program). If you mean explain, like tell him what it’s like, then try to write down what you experience. Are there triggers? Do some things work better for you than others? You can also give him an article or a youtube clip that shows what ADD is like to experience.

How do i explain to my teacher that i have depression and its effecting my work?

You've already gotten some good advice, but just thought I'd chime in to let you know you are not alone. <3 I don't know how old you are, but I suffered from depression pretty much all through high school and never told anyone. I'm 19 now and finally had to take a semester off from college because I had turned to suicidal thoughts. Telling someone about it was the best thing I could have done. I've been on antidepressants for about a month and a half now, and I already feel so much better and freer now that I know i'm not alone in this.

So you should feel very proud of yourself for getting help.

I think that there are two ways you could go about telling your teachers what's been going on. A) Set up a conference and have a parent or someone responsible for you explain it-- this might be the best option depending on what you're comfortable with. B) Ask your teacher to set up a private time to meet with you and then explain it yourself. You could say something like, "First of all, I know I haven't been doing my best in this class. I just wanted to explain that I've been dealing with some personal problems, and it's been affecting my schoolwork a lot. I've been to a doctor and I'm on medication now and that's also been affecting my ability to concentrate. I don't want to sound like I'm looking for an easy way out of anything-- I just wanted you to know what's been going on and that i'm working on getting better."

Remember that schoolwork can be made up, you can raise your grades, you can talk to your teachers and you WILL be able to concentrate better again. But you have to realize that your health is the most important thing of all, so treat yourself well, eat well, and try to smile. Lots of love, it will get better <3

How do I explain to my parents that my teacher is a pervert? Do I need to respect a teacher that is a pervert?

If there is any cause for concern around any adult, you must tell someone so that it can be investigated and dealt with.It is better to be completely honest. If you can’t tell your parents verbally, write them a letter detailing all your evidence for saying this. It is also important to talk to a teacher you trust at school. If the teacher is making you uncomfortable in any way, then that does need to be addressed. It might be a simple miscommunication and the teacher needs further guidance and/or training, but it could be a safeguarding issue that needs to be addressed immediately.Remember, if you feel uncomfortable, or if interactions have been inappropriate, it is not only yourself you are helping, but other people in the same situation too. Many teachers are falsely accused of all sorts simply because the kids take against them or because they gave a bad grade or because they are just poor teachers and the kids know it. This means that the situation will be investigated thoroughly to ensure everybody involved is safe.

How would you describe your teachers?

I can describe my teachers/professors from elementary grades to the graduate school in these categories:the do this, do that type; this type sees you and gives you her things for you to bring to the faculty room; tells you to write things on the board for your classmates to copy and you wonder why and how you can have your own copy of what you wrote on the board; tells you to go the canteen to buy merienda during recess when you yourself are about to have merienda;the opposite type; they never ask you to do things for them and the more you want to do so;the it’s you and me type; he or she makes it clear that there is a line in the middle - on one side of the line he/she is there and on the other side you and your classmates are; teaching and learning sometimes become adversarial; for some reason, this type does not want you to forget how superior he/she is to you;the entertainer; must be a frustrated rock star, one with stage ambitions that didn’t get off the ground and chose teaching as a back-up;the shy type; does not mingle much, does not talk much outside of the classroom; speaks in a voice that constantly have you asking What? in your mind, but is nice, so you cut her a big slack;the brilliant type; makes you wonder why he/she chose to be a teacher; you and your classmates gape listening; later you asked each other what the teacher said; you had no idea;the filthy rich type; has a 19-room mansion; why the heck did she become a teacher?the fashion icon and beauty queen type; nobody is listening but everyone is looking;the ideal type; the type that makes you like going to school; you like her/him because you are learning, you are having fun, you have friendly interactions; you smile at the thought that it will be her/his class soon.

I got caught plagiarizing, how do I face my teacher?

I caught a student plagiarizing yesterday, and I have unfortunately caught many over my almost 30 years of teaching. Here is how I always hope my students will handle it:The student comes to my office, and when I ask, “Do you have anything you want to tell me?” the student says, “I’m sorry. I have no excuse. I was lazy/scared of failing/panicking/(insert other reason—reason, not excuse) and I did it and I’m just sorry.”In that case, I would sit down with the student and go over exactly how and why the particular case amounted to plagiarism, and how they can avoid it in the future. A student taking an attitude like that would go a long way toward repairing my trust in them.My policy on plagiarizing is clear, in line with my university’s policy, and spelled out in English and Japanese on my syllabus. I also go over it several times during the semester, to remind everyone, and I explain just what constitutes plagiarism. But I understand how confusion or panic can drive a student to do something like that.Early in my teaching career, I had a student’s parents actually threaten to sue the school because I caught the student plagiarizing. The case was very clear cut and quite egregious—the student copied an essay that was in the textbook I was teaching from for another class! AND she denied she’d plagiarized, insisting everything she wrote was from her own mind and she’d never seen that essay before and it was just a coincidence that 95% of the words of her essay exactly matched those of the essay in the textbook—yet the school backed down and asked me to let the student write another paper. I was disheartened and agreed—I was a new adjunct teacher, after all—but surprise, the student never got around to writing the replacement paper. That was definitely a case of what not to do.

My teacher SUCKS at teaching, what do I do?

My math teacher is so bad at teaching. tbh i don t even understand how SHE GOT HIRED. How is she in the math field??? She gets so many problems wrong and it s really confusing for me. She can t explain things well and she never does a step by step on techniques such as dividing polynomials. She literally got a student who takes tutoring to explain it in front of the class and I got it first try. She can t even speak loud bc she says she ll lose her voice if she does lol. I could do my history homework and use my phone right in front of her and get away with it. What s the point of being in that math class for an hour when I only learn when I take extra ME time to actually learn how to DO the problems. I wish I could go to tutoring before school because I REALLY care about my grade, but unfortunately I have an AP class before school instead. My mom and dad won t get me a tutor and I don t know what to do. I hate having to look for the resources myself when I have a perfectly good resource in a teacher, in which she ISN'T. I have a C in that class and it's honestly making me feel really bad. God, I wish I could switch teachers. Help!!
