How Do I Find The Ip Address On My Computer And What Does Dns Server Not Responding Mean

"DNS Server not responding...can't find web page"?

THAT would be a problem with your ISP and your connection TO your ISP. For some reason, you are not communicating with the DNS at your ISP. Maybe the DNS is down at your ISP, or more likely, YOU are not configuring you TCP/IP stack correctly when you log in to your ISP...

At a command prompt type this:

IPCONFIG /ALL

and see what it says for the DNS... you SHOULD see one or more IP addresses from your ISP.

Error: "DNS server not responding." How can I fix this error?

"DNS Sever not responding issue" is not an issueYou are completing your assignment and the deadline for the same is reaching. You are desperately trying to connect to the Internet to get some help from the Google friend, but in vain. When you tried to troubleshoot the problem, you get this message "Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (DNS server) is not responding"!!This problem is though very common. But when this happens during some urgent work, it is capable of causing headaches. But you need not worry, I'm going to tell an easy fix to the problem so that you don't need to worry about it the next time.Step1: Go to the Start tab and type "ncpa.cpl" on the search bar. Then, 2-3 networks may pop up.Step 2: Right click on the Wi-Fi network and go to the Properties.Step 3: In the Wi-Fi properties, search for the "Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4)".Step 4: After double clicking the "Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4)", you will get this.Check the "Use the following DNS server addresses" option and set the Preferred DNS sever to 208.67.222.222.Click OK and close all other setting windows. If you have closely followed all of my prescribed steps ,most probably your Internet connection will start working. "DNS Sever not responding issue" will no more be there. If your connection to the Internet is still not working, then you can do try a few more things.1. Disconnect from the connected Wi-Fi and then Connect again.or2. Detach the power cord from the router. Wait for a few seconds after all the lights on the router have gone out and then reconnect the power cord to the router. If none of the above methods work for your PC , You may Restart your PC all over again and that may work.

Question about "DNS server not responding"?

The DNS server is provided by your ISP. When you connect to the Internet, the network is configured so you use your ISP's DNS server.

You must first ensure that it's the DNS server's fault, instead of a connectivity problem. The "ping" command should allow you to test whether you have Internet access.

Google has two public DNS servers anyone can use as a fallback. Their IP addresses are 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Try pinging Google's DNS servers. If they respond, then the problem is indeed with your ISP's DNS. You might want to try using Google's servers instead.

HOWEVER:

Eight years is a VERY LONG TIME regarding technology. In this care, I think I agree with your provider's diagnosis. YOUR MODEM IS VERY OLD. Replace it.

The good things about ISP-provided gateways are that:
- They come for free, and you can upgrade them at little or no cost.
- They connect automagically to the ISP with little to no configuration on your part.
- Since they're tuned specifically to the ISP's network, they might offer better performance than even the same model if you buy it elsewhere.

The bad things about ISP-provided gateways are that:
- They rarely offer much options for customizing to your needs.
- They might come with embedded firewall rules that you can't override, which most likely means:
- No P2P, no SSH to your home, no tunnelling for servers you might want to run at home, etc.

But since you didn't care about upgrading your hardware for this long, you might not need any of that.

How does the computer know which DNS server to use?

We have three questions:How does your computer know which DNS server to use? Someone told it. Either manually, in the case of static configuration, or, more likely, automatically, in the case of DHCP, which is a protocol for automatically configuring computers on networks. On your home network, for example, your router obtained DNS server addresses from your ISP. Your router in turn hands those DNS addresses out to the computers in your home.Who will maintain the DNS servers? In your home, your ISP. In an enterprise, probably the IT staff. Some folks also use public name servers, such as Google Public DNS, which are maintained by third parties (in this case, Google (company)).And who will fill the DNS server with data that contains the IP addresses of domain names? No one. DNS is a hierarchical and distributed system. When your computer attempts to resolve a host name to an IP address and doesn't know the answer, it asks your DNS server. The DNS server probably doesn't know the answer either, so it asks a more authoritative server. In the basic case, this is a root server. Your DNS server is pre-seeded with the addresses of the root servers. The root servers are critical to the operation of DNS. Without them, the Internet would fail to function. Anyhow, your computer asks your DNS server, which in turn asks the root server. The root server returns the authoritative server for the TLD. Say you were resolving rlove.org. The root server would return the dot org server. So you would then ask the dot org server to resolve rlove.org, who would return rlove.org's name server. Then you'd ask that server, which would finally return rlove.org's IP address. Along the way, servers will cache the results, to avoid the repetition of this dance.

DNS server isn't responding when In my apartment, but works in the library?

My roommates and I came home from winter break and were unable to get online. We all get a message saying that the DNS server is not responding when we run the trouble shooter. The signal shows up full strength, but we are still unable to get on the internet. However, when we take our laptops to the library we are able to access the internet. Could someone please walk me through how to fix this problem? Thanks !

DNS server isn't responding?

I got hooked up with my new internet company. Charter. When I moved down here and I keep getting dns server isn't responding.

I went back to my parents house and my old Internet connection worked beautifully.

Now I'm at school using their Internet and I'm getting dns server isn't responding messages again!

I've tried changing the protocol number. UnPlugging everything. Etc.

Help!?

What does is mean when the DNS server is down?

If a DNS server is down that means that when you type a domain like http://www.domain.com the server that will go find where domain.com is located is not responding.

What I would do is call your ISP (Verizon, AOL, ect) and see if they are experiencing any problems. Tell them you would like them to run a "line test". What they will do is check from their server to your router to ensure the line is open and everything is working properly. If they tell you that it's working fine ask them why you cannot connect to the internet.

Best of luck,
Chad
