How Do I Get My Dog To Not Be Scared Of Her Food Bowl

New puppy seems scared of his food bowl?

It's not a shiny bowl, I was looking at getting that, but it was more expensive anyway. :P But its a blue, plastic 1.75 pint bowl, I watch alot of animal shows & hear that you're not supposed to feed them a whole lot & to always get a bowl to go with the size of the dog, but I leaned it against the wall (it has rubber on the bottom) & he got some himself that way, but still seemed scared haha. Thanks everyone for your answers. Im gonna try a few things you guys listed. :]

Why is my dog scared of his food bowl?

He may associate the food bowl with trauma, such as being yelled at or spanked when going to get the food too fast, or if he was raised as a pup in the litter, and was not strong enough to make it through to the bowl without other dogs roughing him up. Try changing to a plastic, square shaped container, or a pie plate. A change in location may work also. If this doesn't help, it's probably the act of being fed, not the container itself. In this case, put him in his crate, or a favorite spot, wait until he's relaxed, and give him the food. Good luck!

My dog is scared of his food bowl? can someone help?

my dog hasn't eaten anything out of his bowls in like two days. he'll only eat his food if we put it on the floor away from the bowl. when he approaches the bowls he acts scared.

i think i might know the reason, if this even makes sense to anyone but me, we just got our dog his first collar a few days ago and it got caught on his bowl twice somehow and the bowls got knocked over as he tried to walk away and scared him. could that be why he wont eat out of them anymore? please help.

My dog is scared of her food bowl.?

So she is a year and 4 months now and she has been fine with her food bowl. I have no idea what is going on i do the usual are you hungry and went to lift up her bowl but she ran to the other side of the room. Im like okay so top it up and she is barking and wagging her tail the normal.
I put it down and make her wait because we always do that and say ok. So she starts eating it and the bowl lifts up and goes back down and its metal so it makes a small bang.
She refuses to eat out of that, so I think ok well Ill try with a plastic bowl, and she is not having any of it.
I have no idea what to do, i mean she makes her self jump occationally like seeing her reflection and then she is fine, but this?!
please help :/

Why is my dog barking at his metal food bowl?

he's trying to protect his food from himself (reflection he says in the bowl).. try using something to cover the reflective surface.. and see if it works.. if not it'll be better to get a new bowl...

My dog is afraid of his food bowl...?

YOU are not being the Alpha (Boss) owner of the dog and he is manipulating you badly. YOU determine what when and where he will eat. The longer you let this go on, the worse it will be to train him. Do this...this is how I food trail ALL my dogs over the past 40 years, I've never had one starve, they all learned to eat WHAT I fed them, WHEN I Fed them (they know the times so well they will remind me when it is getting time to feed them (8:AM and 5: PM) Follow this training ritual:

1) (You choose the food Blue Buffalo or Candide is best) and the feeding bowl, and where you feed them.

2) Feed them at regular intervals, twice a day 8AM and 5PM or a similar schedule that is good for YOU.

3) Leave the food down for no longer than 30 minutes (less is better) and then TAKE THE FOOD UP and do NOT feed them again until next feeding time. If they don't eat initially, rest assured they WILL eat what you give them and how you give it to them when they get hungry, even if it's a couple of days. Don't give in to them.

4) I keep water down for them constantly

5) This method will teach them YOUR method of feeding and they WILL adapt to it if you are consistent. But their eating habits are basically up to you...so DO IT! It will also help with their consistency as to when they are walked or let out to potty; That helps YOU!

My dog will not eat out of her bowl!?

It's probably metal, isn't it? Or at least makes loud noises. She probably accidentally ran into it or something, and the noise scared her. Get a plastic one. 9 out of 10 times the thing the dog is "mysteriously" afraid of is metal and therefore noisy when moved, or just noisy. Noisy=scary to a lot of dogs.

If it's not metal, try moving it to a different location. If that doesn't work, it's probably that the bowl is gross or smells gross so try washing it, and if that doesn't work, just get a new bowl, because something frightening happened around the bowl, or it smells gross. Also, sometimes dogs just like the attention, but that's much less likely.

PS- Try my thing first. I work at a Kennel, and noisy things are scary to certain dogs, and I'm betting your dish is metal and made a noise at her. It's such an easy fix.

Why does my dog take her food away from the bowl and eat?

Why does a dog stop eating from the food bowl?I can think of a few reasons a dog would stop eating from his bowl:A medical issue, in which he should be taken to a vet.A negative association with the bowl. I once had a client whose dog’s tag hit the porcelain bowl, and the sound scared him enough that he refused to reapproach the bowl. Switching to a plastic bowl fixed the issue. Some dogs prefer a raised feeder or a shallow bowl, but if this hasn’t changed, then this is likely not the reason he stopped eating from his bowl.Changing a dog’s diet can sometimes cause a dog to refuse food.Free-feeding dogs can also make them more picky with their dog food. Giving dogs 15–20 minute mealtimes twice a day can help them learn to eat when food is available.Adding people food can also make dogs picky with their own food. Eliminate the table scraps and the dog should start eating his own food again within a few days.If none of those apply, you may want to start with a vet checkup and go from there.

Why does my older dog push his food bowl with his nose but not eat?

My 11 old golden retriever puppy is really fussy and he does the same thing with his bowl...its really wierd to see..he noses it and pushes it around but will not eat what is in the bowl. I've watched him loads and have come to the conclusion that he does this when there is something in the bowl he doesnt want to eat..if he has our own food i.e. left overs, roast chicken, lamb, mince, shepherds pie etc. he woofs it down with no moving the bowl..works for him!!! don't know if this would be any good for your dog but it certainly works for mine, good luck!!
