Can I connect the modem to the switch then to the router?

You can, but the switch will be of no actual use in this case.Your scenario:If you use a modem, you get a public IP on a device connected to it. If you’re on residential internet, your ISP only allows you to a single public IP per connection. So, in case you put a switch behind a modem, the all devices connected to the switch will get a public IP (or only a single device may get an IP, all others may revert to no connection status, depending on your ISP). In such a case only a single device will be able to access the Internet, all other devices will just fail to authenticate with the ISP’s server.HOWEVER:If the switch is behind a router (which in most cases uses NAT), all devices connected to either the switch or the router can access the internet simultaneously.Putting a switch between a modem and router is just as equal to not putting it: a switch won’t be of any use in your case.Simple Rule:MODEM → ROUTER → SWITCH/ACCESS POINTS → MULTIPLE CLIENTS

When I connect to my Internet router through wireless, it says limited access and I can't connect to the Internet. How do I fix this?

Let's  try to understand the problem first. You are getting message of Limited Access when you are connected to your wi-fi. It means you are connected to your Router but there is no internet or there is internet but your computer isn't able to recieve that. It means your LAN card is working fine. Now we have 3 different steps to fix this issue but before going further just restart your computer. 1. Disconnect your computer from your wifi and re-connect it. If this works then no need to follow other steps. 2.Go in Start menu and search CMD or Command Prompt. A black window will be pop up on your screen. You need to type further commands : ipconfig/release then press enter, ipconfig/renew then press enter, netsh winsock reset then press enter. Restart your computer and ta-da you have fixed your internet connectivity. 90% issue resloved by this step. Still you are facing the same issue then, follow 3rd step3. Restart your Router/gateway router. And follow step 2 before restarting and is it still doesn't work then contact your ISP (Internet Service Provider). At this point there is no issue in your computer. Because you are already connected to your network. It is just your network. I hope it helps. Thanks.

How do I disable the ping to a router?

You can add an access list to your interface going out to the Internet that blocks all ICMP messages, including ping.Be carefull just stoping ping, by doing this, anyone that pings your public address will see that something is there, just blocking the reply, but they will get an acknowledgment that something is there..The below one would block ping, but allow all other traffic.#ip access-list extended STOP_PING#deny icmp any any#permit ip any anythen go into your outbound interfaced, and apply the access list with the command,#$ip access-group STOP_PING inJust to add.... This would stop ping, but allow ALL OTHER TRAFFIC to cross your outside interface. I recommend gathering some information about what is a typical access list to set up for some basic security...And also "no ip redirects" in global config mode should turn off ICMP packets.Source: how to disable ping to a routerOr you can consult the engineers in Cisco - Global Home Page or router-switch.com
