How Do I Know My Leg Ia Broken Or Fractured

How do you care for a dog with a broken leg?

As the first respondant said, take him to the vet for proper assessment of the extent of injury and appropriate advice and casting/splinting.How do you know for sure it is broken? How did this happen? How long ago did it happen? Does he use the leg at all?Aside from broken toes, you would be hard pressed to find a human who would not go to the doc and at least get x rays done. Especially if a break to the leg has occured, because legs are what help us walk, right?Dogs don't NEED all four legs, but why leave your pup in pain and likely to heal poorly in a way that could impair his future agility and cause other joints to wear down too fast because they take on the work of the healing/improperly repaired broken leg??You leave no details of how the supposed break happened or the extent of it's effecr on the dog, so I jump to conclusions of suspicion regarding the health and safety and your true devotion to your pet’s wellbeing. Is this dog abused or involved in fighting and you worry about being exposed if a vet assesses him? I wonder why you are asking Quora when you should be asking a vet. But, if you refuse to go to a vet for proper treatment, the best thing is highly restricted activity by crate rest or confining to a small room with no couch or bed to jump up/down. Give him comfy bedding and only take out for bathroom breaks 3–4 times a day, carry him if you have to. Do this for 4–6 weeks, and be prepared to take on some shame if the dog ends up with a long term painful impairment. Any loving dog owner would scrape up enough $$ somehow or get approved for care credit or Wells Fargo to help pay upfront costs.

How can u tell if kitten leg is fractured or broken? How much will it cost to fix?

well if you feel a bone sticking out or out of place then its broke or fractured (compare it to the other leg). I could be sprained, my cats lag was and I didn't take her to the vet I just put her in a big dog cage for a few weeks just because it wouldn't be good for them to be jumping on things. BUt its better to take them to the vet (i couldn't afford it at the time). it could be any of the 3. just keep your cat from jumping on things until you get the kitten to a vet. it would be better to put her/him in a cage with litter, food, water and toys just so you know the kitten wont jump.
good luck.

How can you tell if your kittens leg is broken or fractured?

Since it is young, it may have weak muscles. He may have hit it on something when he ran, or just simply twisted it the wrong way. I suggest taking him to the vet when it opens.

To comfort him, just maybe let him be, or put a blanket over/around his leg.

Good luck.

How can you tell if your leg is broken?

Usually you can’t, unless bone pieces are sticking out of a wound, the limb is deformed, or you can’t bear any weight on it. See a doc! When our children were small, they, growing in The Netherlands, rode their bikes all over the neighbourhood, and often fell off their bikes. So, after me examining them and sometimes deciding to have an X-ray made at our own ED, our daughter ask me what doc were looking for when looking for a broken bone. These are still the symptoms - I was taught during the sixties in med school - we look for:-localised spontaneous pain-pain on axial pressure-functio laesa: not functioning (usually not being able to stand on the leg, or move the limb properly)-abnormal look so these I told her.I ommitted the more ominous signs like:-crepitation: the grating sound of broken bone fragments rubbing against one another (have never heard it in my life)-bone pieces sticking out of an open woundSo afterwards, when she fell, I usually at work so not available, she would examine herself after having fallen, and then triumphantly tell her Mom that she hadn’t broken anything so not to worry. She later went on to become a MD PhD, but have since left medicine, starting a second career in ICT trying to bridge the chasm between clinicians and ICT.

How can I tell if my cats leg is sprained, or broken?

My cat came inside earlier and was limping. I thought it was just his back right leg, but it's also his front left one. He's limping and pulls away when I touch either of the legs, but doesn't cry. He only cries when I carry him (I don't want him walking around too much so I carry him to his food or litter box if he tries to go there). He doesn't have trouble laying on his front leg; he can curl it, and will rest his head on it, but walking seems to bother him. I checked his paw and there is nothing in it. We don't have the money to take him to the vet, so could this be a sprain or break? And if so what could I do to help it get better?

How can I tell if my dog's leg is broken?

I am not a veterinarian, but I would suggest that anytime your dog limps on three (or less) legs and is clearly in distress, that YOU IMMEDIATELY TAKE HIM OR HER TO A VET!Tweaking or moving the suspect joint could permanently injure the pup and even a vet will reserve judgement until they take x-rays of the leg. In some cases the injury might be a dislocation (such as in a luxating patella) or a torn ligament, but only a thorough examination, using specialized equipment by a trained professional, can correctly diagnose the issue and dictate a suggested course of action.Please. Make the small investment in your dog and take the pup to a vet when a serious injury, such as a broken leg, is suspected.

How can I tell if my dog's leg is fractured or just hurt?

You can’t without an Xray. In either event, your dog is in a lot of pain so the very least you can do is get him some pain medication. I know this will sound all judgy and I don’t mean it that way, but in Florida if you have a dog in need of medial attention and you don’t provide that, it’s a 3rd degree felony and the penalty will be a lot higher than what you would pay for a vet.I don’t know where you live, but I suspect wherever it is there is a similar law. Please don’t wait. If you can’t afford the vet, go online and Google “organizations that help pay vet expenses” because there are a lot of them. Also, if you have a shelter anywhere nearby, you can take him there and explain the situation, they may give you a reduced cost if they have a vet on staff, or send you to a vet they use and pay a portion of the bill. I am a former vet tech and I can tell you, a fracture or sprain is very painful. Please don’t make your dog suffer. Find help immediately.

How can I tell if my dog has a broken leg?

Our Min-pin was about the same age when she broke her leg, Jumping out of arms.

If the leg broke, he whould have let up a whale of a shout, and you whould have know imidiatly that something was badly wrong.

He more than likely sprained a musle and walking on it hurts a little..

Min-Pin leg bones are very thin and fragile, and seldom only get hairline cracks.

The vet is looking at the reaction of the dog when touching the leg, if the leg was broken he'd turn and try to bite as soon at you touch it.

Give him lots of love and attention, and rather pick him up than ask him to jump. Give him some time to let the leg heal.

If after a week he still refuses to use the leg, take him back past the vet for a checkup..

When running/walking around, you may notice that the leg will slowly start touching the ground on each step. This is a sign that the leg is healing and he's starting to use it again..

6 years after our Min-Pin broke her leg she'd still run on three's, Favouring the 'broken' back leg. This is normal.. It took her a year to use it properly after the cast came off..

Just keep a eye on it for the next few days...

If your leg was broken would it cause radiating pain?

Never had a broken bone so I can not speak from experience... but have take people to ER w/ broken bones..... and yes... it hurts..
if u don't go immediately the bone begins to try to heal itself.. the best way it can... and the pain gets a bit easier.. but not much..

but I guess u could say.. it does radiate pain.. hope that is not ur case, Good luck at the doctor today..
