What is the appeal in hunting?
It stems from genetics....believe it or not...if your ancestors were not successful hunters....you would not be here today answering that question....think of it this way...only in the last few hundred years, as mankind been able to purchase their food in a centralized location. The fun is in the challenge...deer are not easy to kill...but are prized eating....and when you kill one....a lot effort has went into it....a tremendous amount...so you are pleased when fate smiles on you...and you achieve a kill. Some people do take books..some little video games...but the most enjoyable thing is to watch nature....see an occasional bob cat...or coyote...or see a hawk swoop down on a squirrel for his dinner.... And sometimes I hunt, and just watch the deer ....without shooting anything....just going for the pure enjoyment of time well spent in nature...away from the insanity of mankind...and the noise and the pollution.....and jungles made of concrete. All the things above....are the things that make hunting appealing to me.....and other things also.....it lets you think....and meditate...and in so doing, you can solve all the worlds problems...and perhaps think of lost loves, and of a love yet to be found. I went to great pains to explain all this to you...but you will not understand...you live in a world of noise....and distraction...tv, radios, and cell phones...constant distractions..and you lose sight of what is important in life....and you know nothing about nature... Such is life.
Where can I learn 223 deer hunting?
The .223 is still illegal for deer hunting in some states and for years many gun writers said it was too light for deer and couldn't be counted on to make humane kills. At one time this may have been correct, but advances in bullet technology have changed things.A .223 is a perfectly adequate deer cartridge provided you use the right bullet. A good factory .223 deer load is Federal Fusion 62 grain soft point. Personally I have had excellent results with 55 grain Barnes bullets hand loaded to about 3,400 feet per second. So far every deer I've shot with that setup dropped like he'd been hit with a .30/06. Avoid full metal jacket and varmint bullets at all costs. The former punches a small hole usually all the way through a deer but does very little damage unless it hits a major bone. The latter opens up too quickly to reach a deer's vital organs.

Why is hunting not illegal??
I'll answer. Hunting is the state governments way of population control. It is reflected in how many tags the hunter is a allowed to have. You may see it as immoral for us to go kill a helpless animal, but in reality, the reason we do so is if we didn't, there would be ALOT more deer that would get sick and die from over population. Hunting is a quick moral death for these animals so that the whole population doesn't suffer. I myself always eat what I kill, so I don't feel it was in vain. Hunting is NOT a sport by sociopaths, it's a sport by people who believe it or not actually care about the environment. We go out we relax in the woods and enjoy nature 95% of the trip. Why is it not illegal? Because it's what saves animal lives.

Welcome fellow hunter! Yes, I hunt everyday and treasure every moment that I get to spend in the woods. Today, one squirrel and a whole game bag full of coral mushrooms. Yesterday, the same. My daughter is also accompanying me on the weekends. There is nothing to me more rewarding than providing my own food for my kids and husband. (Yes, he hunts too, but not as much as me lately, he takes our son) I don't have to go to work until 10:00 am, and that's another plus, hunt before I go to work. Whether it deer, turkey, squirrel, rabbit, rifle, bow or muzzle loader mushrooms, gooseberries, blackberries, just getting out there is a thrill. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do for many years to come.
