How do you manage your kids' data usage on their phones?

My daughter is on a pay-as-you-go plan and I am billed monthly. She has to manage her own data usage. She is aware that when she goes over her monthly data usage her internet connectivity stops and she has to wait until the next monthly payment for her data to re-up. She's had to do that twice, and the days without data are long days. My daughter is 12.5, and has a reasonable amount of data available to her. I suspect she'll be asking to pay for more data when she comes up short one of these months, but it hasn't occurred to her as a possibility yet.  As a parent, it's a difficult line to entrust them but not too much!

What is the best approach to control a teen's cell phone usage?

Cell Phone addiction is a grave concern for many parents and should be addressed. Looking into the chemistry in a teen’s brain development, one can easily see that the brain is still developing by creating more and more grey matter, which is used to process information. Through experiences and learning the grey matter will thicken and the child will learn to make logical decisions faster. As a result, some teens and children may not make great decisions quickly. These same children can be victims to addiction and other online entities that seek to take advantage of this fact.A cellphone is a great responsibility and should be treated as a powerful tool. To make all rules and provisions clear, many families have turned to the idea of a technology contract. These lay out specific guidelines that often provide reasonable expectations for both the child and the parent. By placing limits and rules for both parties, it will make the younger party feel more responsible and in control, which often leads to better decision making. The monitoring of a child’s phone and online activity should be implemented but with reasonable limitations and respect for their privacy. Some examples of rules include, but may not be limited to:using the cell phone only after homework or chores to teach them prioritization skillsno cellphone usage after “_____” time in order to ensure that teens are getting enough sleepno usage of the cell during dinner or lunch times to encourage communication during mealtimesno usage of adult apps like “kik, tinder, snapchat, etc” because of potential adult content and online predatorsBy discussing these issues with their kids in respectful manner when creating the contract, the parents will not only prevent social and psychological struggles of teenagers but also enhance and deepen their relationships with the kids.If you or a loved one have questions on phone safety and responsible online habits, please visit our parenting guide below.KidGuard Parents' Survival Guide to Online Safety

Is the usage of phones by kids an evidence of evolution?

Technologies should remain tools for evolution and never an end in itself. So no its no evidence of evolution. They use it without really understanding how it works, which means that they use technology not for their evolution but for their own selfish interests… As those who are more curious about life won’t use if they don’t know how their tool works. As such it's pretty shallow and worrying...
