How do I paint my latex horns?

You'll have to use acrylic paint..other kinds won't react well to latex. Mix white with a bit of yellow and a tiny tiny bit of green...experiment...try using a wideish flat brush to drag slight grooves into the paint so they do not lok too smooth..ivory has thin, shallow grooves in it's natural state.

How do I paint a dresser?

- sand and fill any imperfections.  Do not sand to a very fine grit; you want something for the primer to grab.  120 grit should be a good stopping point.  If you're painting melamine or mica then rough it up with 80 grit.- clean with a TSP substitute (outside!).  This will remove all the grime and oils from the workpiece.- prime with a quality primer intended for the paint you'll be using.  Sherwin Williams Duration, Emerald or Benjamin Moore Aura are brands that I'd recommend for the paint.- paint with a good paint and brush; I would add Floetrol or a similar additive to let the paint flow out better (no brush marks, etc.)- Even after it's dry to the touch make sure that it fully cures (typically a few days) before you put anything on top.If you're painting wood, another option is to use milk paint.  This requires no primer and is very easy to apply.  The paint is also chemically safe (i.e. can be used on kids toys, etc.).

How do I texture a wall before I paint it?

I would give the illusion of texture with a faux technique like color washing or sponging, use two very similar colors, just a shade apart and paint the darker color on first with a roller, now slightly water the lighter color down in a separate container (if you are using water-based) and get a wide brush and paint over the base color using a large X pattern, you will develop a rythm, or use a stroke you like best, arches work well too. Just leave a hint of the base color exposed and it will look like you have a textured wall. If you use a sponge do the same as above except usng a sea sponge and dab a little in the paint (too much will run and drip) and roll the sponge often for a random pattern. I personally like using drywall mud and a trowel and going over the entire wall leaving subtle trowel marks but this is time consuming and you have to wait for the mud to dry before you can paint it. The trouble with adding texture to paint is it's messy and never looks uniform. Texture should really only be applied by a person with the right equipment. Another nice option is the Ralph Lauren suede or River Rock, they both have gritty texture in them and come with instructions. I have done the suede in a clients house and it came out gorgeous! Tinted venetian plaster also looks great and is applied with a trowel, I did that in another clients house and it's pretty dramatic and awesome but takes a long time and a couple layers. They usually only show a few color options but they will mix in pretty much any color you want, you just have to ask for them. Hope this helps!

How do I paint this sunset with oils?

Thanks for the question  Primarily, study the painting for two things.  Light that is diffuse and light that is reflected.  Then use thin glazes for the light that is coming through atmosphere and opaque paint for the reflected light.  Do the thin painting first. Also look at the paintings of great sunset painters.  The artist that is foremost in my thinking is Sir Edwin Church who, true to his name, painted landscapes as the American cathedral and the sunsets as stained glass.Which gives you a clue...make your atmosphere like stained glass. The effect of seeing his actual paintings vs looking at something on line is HUGE.  So if you can, find a museum near you that has one of his paintings. When choosing pigments, remember that some pigments are more opaque than others. For example.  If you want to render that translucent yellow, you'll want Indian Yellow...originally made from the urine of cattle in India fed only on the petals of marigolds.Since you want to blend the yellow into the orange, you'll need the most intense orange you can find.  I use Pyrol Orange from Daniel Smith.

How do I paint over an oil painting?

There are two approaches you can take to “start over” a painting with a fresh surface. If this is another’s work you are painting over, check to see if it’s been varnished before proceding. Artist’s varnish remover should be used to deal with this- just follow the directions on the bottle. If the original painting is thinly coated and completely dry, you can simply brush two or more layers of gesso over the old painting. Be aware that most “gesso” these days is acrylic based and not really suitable to cover an underlayer of oils. Specifically look for oil-based gesso for this step, otherwise your new painting could crack or flake off in time. Oil based gesso will take longer to dry than the acrylic, so be sure to allow each thin coat to dry and cure a bit before applying another. Also allow plenty of drying time for your finished gesso layer before beginning another painting. If the original work on canvas was done in such thick, impasto paint that it cannot be smoothed by sanding or scraping, no worries, you can still recycle it into another work. Get out a staple puller (or flat screwdriver), some canvas pliers and a staple gun. Yank all of the staples/tacks, out of the sides of the first painting, flip the canvas over to reverse it, then staple it back in place, using your canvas pliers to keep the fabric taut against the wooden stretchers. The easiest way to keep your canvas evenly centered and wrinkle free is to start stapling from the center outwards. Work on one side for a few inches, then stretch and similarly staple the opposite side. Repeat on the other two sides. Keep stretching, stapling a few more inches each side, then rotate, repeat, until the “new” canvas is totally secured and drum tight. Apply two or more coats of gesso (either kind will do in this case), you will have a brand new, blank surface to get creative with.Enjoy!

How do I paint a vespa scooter?

You can do it (did my ducati myself)-but you gotta do it outdoors (dust and fumes). I'm going to tell you how to paint over finish....stripping it will take days (you can do that if you have the time). Get a paint stripper wheel for drill at hardware store (7 dollars). Strip it to bare metal. Next apply bondo (5 dollars),from any auto parts store-to any dents. Use sand paper to smooth it out. Tape off all chrome and pieces you don't want painted. Next spray on rustoleum sandable primer. This is the most important part-leaves bumps here and they will show up in paint process! Spray first coat primer. Use light sandpaper to smooth out bumps. Second coat it. Let dry overnight. Next day pick rustoleum enamel color you want (I would get 4 cans) you can always return unused paint. Hold can 6-8 inches away, and light fast sweeping painting. Go lightly (better to have less than more). Wait 4 hours between coats)-3 coats is fine. When you are done with final coat-wait 30 minutes and remove tape (paint should be slightly wet)....wait overnight and your done! Great looking paint job for under 50 dollars. Remeber wash with soft sponge-NO WAXING!

How do I paint a wall to look like a dirt track?

sponge paint the walls with several different browns and rust colors then while the paint is still really wet get a wheel that might go on a go cart or even a bike tire that has a lot of interesting tread on it and roll it in several different paths all around the room to give it that realistic look.
