How Do I Rebuild My 1985 Toyota 22r Pickup Carburator

1984 toyota pick-up 4x4 22R carb issue?

1948 22R engine carb just started to flood, ran fine till yesterday. Only way to make it start is to disconnect the fuel supply line. it seems to not send enough gas back out of the carb. Once the fuel line is reconnected it runs till it floods again. HELP

How do I Rebuild my 1985 Toyota 22r Pickup CARBURATOR?

I want to rebuild, and in my definition, replace all gaskets...and leave it working like new....

Ive never worked with carburators, so I dont know what to expect.

Ive replaced injectors and intake manifold gaskets from EFI cars for example....

but rebuilding a carburator hard to do? its a small component, and the engine bay room in the pickup is very comfortable...

I just want some opinions so that I know what to expect

So basically I want to replace all gaskets and other replacable components that wear out due to time.

Im planning on buying a kit...

Oh and my second question if u guys help me, how do I identify what type of carburator I have???

thanks for reading have a nice day!!

Can you add a Turbo EFI onto a 1986 Toyota Pickup?

That's just the throttle body from a 22R-TE. The actual turbocharger isn't in the listing--you'd certainly need that as well, along with the extra fuel injection components (computer, wiring harness, air intake, etc).

You can look around for a complete 22R-TE engine--that's the factory, turbocharged engine from Toyota turbo trucks. They're pretty rare though, and even if you find one, it'd likely need a bit of work. They're also not hugely powerful...they were rated at 135 hp and 173 ft-lbs, vs 103 hp and 133 ft-lbs for a 22R.

For some more substantial power gain, look to the racing tuned 22Rs from DOA or LC Engineering.

You can also do a performance rebuild on your existing engine. Take it apart, bore the block, put in some bigger pistons, shave the head down a little, add a high-hp camshaft and put everything back together with fresh seals and bearings. Rebuild and tune the carb. You can have yourself a nice, rev-happy 22R that would last you a long time, without worrying about a turbo. Turbos can be quirky and high-maintenance.

How can a fuel injection engine change to a carburetor?

It depends on the engine and it's more common to go from carburetor to fuel injection not the other direction. On some engines you would still have an ECU for spark and timing control or the transmission. On other engines it's relatively straight forward. The lower intake has to be changed for one with a place to mount a carburetor. On some throttle body fuel injection setups you can swap one for the other without changing the intake. In most cases a different manifold is required. The fuel pressure for fuel injection is higher 40+psi, a low pressure pump is ideal and a fuel pressure regulator for carb level psi around 5psi. Is needed. The fuel rails or fuel lines need changed at least for the last few feet. The ignition system needs to no longer be computer controlled. That might mean an MSD style ignition box or just a coil and distributor swap, it depends on the engine and what it originally had.Your ignition and computer are probably the hardest parts, getting the engine to fire up again might take some extra effort.Air, fuel and spark will all need some attention. Going from carb to throttle body fuel injection is more common lately and it might be less effort to upgrade your fuel injection from stock to something better instead of going to a carb.On a small block Ford or Chevy it's really pretty easy to convert and probably -$1000 especially if you use used parts you could probably convert for under $500.Finding out what your car needs to start without an ECU or how to confuse it to be able to start is something you'll have to look up for the specific engine/car in question. On some engines the conversion is probably impossible without fabricating an intake manifold. Others, you can find the parts on Craigslist or the junkyard and it might only take an afternoon or two.

Tired Toyota 22RE engine with low compression. What are my best options?

Those numbers are actually pretty good for that millage. If you want a rebuild, I also recommend http://www.engnbldr.com/
They are about the most helpful and informed people when it comes to these motors. Here is a good writeup done by them about rebuilding the 22re:

As far as being slow up hills, have you put larger tires on? That can be the single biggest power robbing thing on these trucks. You can change the gear ratio in the axles(have to make front and rear match) to be the right ratio for your tire size and that will make more of a difference than putting in a race engine from LC engineering.

How do you adjust choke on a 1989 toyota truck 22r carb.?

on a toyota truck there is a idle screw onthe carb where the cable is located you will see the screw and turn it up or down and the idle will ajust itself after you turn the screw up or down ok hope this helps. thanks/..........

What is the difference between a long block and a short block engine?

1. Long Block EngineThis engine is complete in itself. You can also say that this engine is as close to full assembly engine and ready to run quickly. All the essential components that an ideal engine must have are intact with it and require less time for installation. The long block is more powerful than the short block and negative efforts are required to putting things together. This engine has the parts- assembled block, crankshaft, camshaft, valve train, and a cylinder head as well.Basic Difference between long block vs. short blockHowever, it doesn’t include fuel system, intake, electrical, and exhaust components too. Also, a need of replacing the long block indicates that the short block and the head have been damaged so badly that it can’t be repaired anymore. Generally, the manufacturer offers a complete repair kit in which reconditioning repairs. Moreover, this engine is costlier than the short. In addition, the parts of the engine may contrast from trader to trader. So, if the cost is not an issue for you and the best performance is what you want, going for the long block will definitely be the best option.SEE MORE:How much time can a battery take to get charged?Types of car engine2. Short Block EngineYou can find short block below cylinder head and above crankcase. This engine is not complete and comes with a piston, a crank, and connecting rods. An installation is required in order to assemble all the parts. The external parts required to attach externally may include cylinder heads, oil pump, and gaskets. In addition, you can find some engines with the timing parts as well.Your maintenance tips provider might have told you that the installation of short block engine takes more time than the long block. Well, it’s true! Every part must hold at the specific position and the process of binding the parts together might be time-consuming. This engine is affordable as purchasing only necessary parts lessen the cost. Why is valve tappet clearance in an overhead engine necessary to maintain properly?

Tappet clearance are necessary to allow for thermal expansion of valve spindle length at working temperature. It also ensures the positive closing of the valve as it wears down.Clearance should be set when the engine is cold and the cam follower is off the cam peak.Amount of clearance should be monitored as excessive and minimal clearance both have adverse effect on normal functioning of engine.Excessive clearance leafs to1.valve opens late2.closes early leading to decrement in scavenge efficiency.3.mechanical constraints lyk damage, noise and impact on working surface.Minimal clearance will leads to1.open early and closes late2.leaking of valve leading to burning of valve seat and other constraints.3.comoression pressure will also decrease due to keakageClearance should be monitored regularly using feller gauge for excessive or insufficient clearance
