Whose DVR records more: Dish or Directv?
The Dish network hopper 3 has 2,000 hours of recording space and can record up to 16 shows simultaneously ( 2 terabytes) the DirecTV genie has 1,000 hours ( 1 terabyte) and can record up to 5 shows simultaneously.The question remains then why does DirecTV have more customers than Dish Network? I think that can be answered by the fact that DirecTV has better Sports Programming plus exclusive rights to the NFL Sunday Ticket and Directv packages have more channels that are desirable to customers than Dish Network channel packages so their technological edge is diminished by not having as good a level of content quality.
How do I record on my dish Hopper?
The easiest way is to use the Guide. Use the arrow keys to find the show you want to record (you can hold down the arrow key to move quicker) and then hit the red record button. You'll be given some options of whether you just want to record that particular episode, or the entire series. A more complex method is to hit the DVR button and choose Create New Recording. You can now enter in the title of the show, hit enter, and then select the show from the list that is returned. However this search function is far more flexible as you can type in anything, and the DVR will try to match any show or movie. For instance, enter "Clint Eastwood" and you'll get a list of all upcoming shows or movies that feature him. Maybe he's making an appearance on The Tonight Show, for instance. Another use is to enter your favorite sports team so the DVR will automatically record any games they play in. Any word that appears in the title or description can be used as a search term. To watch recorded shows, hit the DVR button, then select My Recordings (or hit the DVR button a second time.) Some tips: * The Hopper, like all DVRs, only knows the TV schedule for the next week or two. So if you know a show starts sometime in the future and you try to add it to the DVR, don't be surprised if it comes up with no upcoming episodes. However as the Hopper downloads the latest TV schedule, it will re-evaluate all of its recordings to make sure it finds any new instances. It isn't unusual to suddenly see a show return when the new season starts. * Some shows are on multiple channels, so be sure to select the specific channel (HD or non-HD, for instance). Otherwise, if you enter "The Simpsons" and tell it to record on ALL channels, like I did, you'll quickly drown in a flood of episodes from the 3 or 4 different channels that air old Simpsons episodes. * Recording a show in non-HD takes up much less space than HD. I record the nightly news in non-HD, for instance. After all, the majority of information is spoken, and watching someone read the news in HD doesn't really enhance the experience. Other shows I record in non-HD are The Daily Show (same reason) and South Park (watching Cartman in HD adds nothing to the show ;-)

What's even better is that your Hopper or Hopper w/ Sling will automatically skip commercials with the AutoHop feature for any PrimeTime Anytime event that you watch 24 hours after it is recorded. How do i turn off prime time recording on my Dish Dvr?
Press the Menu button on your remote, move to Settings, select DVR Defaults and then PrimeTime Anytime. To turn off prime time recording, select Do Not Enable and then save your selection. **All the best!
Dish Network DVR recording on a specific T.V.?
I recently got Dish Network DVR for two of my T.V's. Whenever I set it to record a series on TV1 it sets some of the episodes to record on TV1 and some of them on TV2. Because the second TV belongs to someone else in the house I need all of the episodes to be recording on TV1 and the only way I've found that I can change it is by waiting until the episode is supposed to air and then cancelling it on the second TV and manually starting a recording on TV1, thus defeating the point of DVR. Is there a setting somewhere to force all episodes of a show to record on the TV they are set up on? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
My Dish network HD dvr is recording shows by itself how can i fix this?
I got a new dish hd dvr box a few days ago and the thing is recording shows on its own. At first i thought it was just some factory pre-sets or something i recorded on accedent, but every single day I delete every event that is scheduled and has beeen recorded and the very next day 50 new things have been recorded and are in my recording. The things its recording are completely random, most of them are on channels iv never been on nor have even heard of. Another thing the duration it records these things are sparatic as well, ranging from 2-16 minutes, never even the whole length of the program. Help! Im really avoiding calling dish because itll be alot of hassle and its making me miss all my shows that i actually want recorded. As far as i know thiers not a feature that will record stuff you like, and i have searched through every setting imaginable!
