How Do I Return A Found And Broken Phone To The Rightful Owner

My previous partner bought me iPhone 6s. We broke up and now he wants to get the phone back otherwise the police will be called. what should I do?

A lot of people seem to be suggesting destroying the phone and then giving it back to him. I strongly discourage that. You would be a) acknowledging that he owns it and has a right to it and b) then destroying what you’ve now admitted is his property.I was in a similar situation awhile back. I bought my girlfriend an iPhone and we split the cost of an iPad. When we broke up, I recognized that the iPhone was a gift. I asked her to pay for my half of the iPad (she never did).Bottom line is, unless he can prove that the phone was not a gift and that he was only letting you use it, he’s got a tough road ahead. The police are going to laugh at him. This isn’t criminal; you didn’t steal his property. At best, this is a civil matter and he could take you to small claims court. So he’s either ignorant or bluffing. If he’s bluffing, call his bluff. The police won’t do anything and might tell him to file a claim with small claims court. If that happens, wait for the summons, go to court, and argue that he gave it to you as a gift. You have a pretty good chance of winning that unless he has some kind of evidence that it wasn’t a gift.If he’s ignorant, ignore him. He’ll call the police and they’ll laugh and tell him to work it out.Either way, don’t destroy the phone and don’t give it back to him. He’s going to be hard pressed to prove it wasn’t a gift. Keep the phone and wait for him to actually do something tangible. If you don’t want to wait around, sell the phone and use the money to buy your own phone. He can still take you to court, but you can say you thought it was a gift and you wanted to upgrade.

I found a wallet and it had 80 dollars in it. Should i return it?

the wallet had 80 dollars a bunch of credit cards gift cards and his I.D. I was thinking of just taking the money and returning the wallet. I told my friend and he asked me how i would feel if i lost 80 dollars, but i have lost a wallet before and it never has gotten returned and by the way my friend said he knows the guy and he's a jerk. a rich jerk. So its kinda like being robin hood and steeling from the rich and giving to the poor. BE HONEST. Would you return it?

I lost my broken phone and now asurion says they will charge me $275 if I don't return the phone. What to do?

My original phone got soaken wet and it would not turn back on. Asurion sent me a replacement after charging me 100 bucks. I was supposed to return the broken phone, but I lost it. I searched up and down my house and can't find it. I called Asurion and they said that if I can't return the broken phone they will charge me $275! paying $275 for a lost and broken phone is crazy :( Any ideas of what I could do? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

I found someone's phone and tried to give it back in exchange for $50 for the time. They declined so I said fine and left. Can I get in legal trouble?

Legally, I believe you have committed a crime. I’m not a lawyer or police officer, so I can’t say that with 100% certainty. The reason I suggested it might be a crime is because you showed up with the phone and you clearly established who the owner was. Then, when they refused to pay you, you left. I think that might be larceny. And, depending on the cost of the phone, could be a serious charge. In my opinion, your behavior was not very nice. How would you like it if you lost your phone or wallet and someone found it and kept it from you unless you paid them? And why do you think you should be paid for your time? Is it really that much of a big deal to meet somebody halfway and return the phone to them? Who knows, you might even make a friend. If you’ve ever done anything nice for somebody out of the goodness of your heart, you’d know what a good feeling it gives you inside. That is a much greater reward than any financial gain you might get.Have you ever heard of the “golden rule?” In case you haven’t, it goes a little something like this: “Do unto others as you would have done to yourself.” In other words, treat people the way you would like to be treated. You have to understand that nowadays mobile phones are VERY expensive. Think of how much work a person has to put in to get one.All I am saying is that if you were on the opposite end of this situation, you’d want the person to try to find you and return your property. Am I right? If the answer to that question is “yes,” then maybe you should simply return it without asking for a reward. And who knows? The owner may be so thrilled and appreciative of your kindness, he/she may even offer you a reward. Maybe it will even be MORE than $50!I don’t think you are a bad person for thinking this way. I think it’s simply human nature. I don’t know what your financial situation is like, but I could totally understand somebody who was in dire straits thinking about asking for a reward. As I said earlier, the feeling you get from doing a good thing for another is amazing. In fact, I’d go as far as to say it’s priceless!I hope my answer at least gave you a bit of perspective on the situation. Again, I think it’s a normal human response, but once you think it over a bit, you’ll probably feel like giving the phone back without asking for any money in return.I have faith in you!

If someone borrows something, and refuses to return it, is it stealing? And can the police be involved?

If you are the rightful owner, can prove your right to ownership and demand it be returned and they refuse to return it, yes you could treat it as a theft. Whether someone else will do something about it depends on it's monitary value. You would have to go through certain steps like prove you gave notice of demand of return of the property...like a certified letter and a specified time in which to comply which is reasonable.

Once this is done then the options are:

1.Obtain a court order mandating the return of the items.
2.Have a police officer meet you at the premises to obtain your items with proof of ownership.
3.Sue him for the value of the item or its return in small claims court.
4.Forget about it and chalk it up to experience.

I found a partially broken ipad?

If you have an ipod/ipad data cable I guess you could try connecting it to your PC and accessing the data on it via iTunes or directly access the device in My Computer. You may find some clue/ info this way as to who might own it.

What would you do if you found a backpack full of money?

A homeless man from Boston found and returned a backpack full of $40,000. He turned the bag over to the Boston police after seeing "a lot of hundred-dollar bills." So what would you do if you found a bag full of money? Be honest!

Will envirophone buy this phone?

Hi,
You should not send blacklisted phones to phone recyclers. They all use a service called checkmend which will check the status of a phone. If it is stolen / barred / blacklisted etc they will have to keep the phone and investigate in more detail, sometimes involving the police.

I would use a service like checkmend to find out exactly what is wrong with the device, get it resolved and then approach selling it on these sort of websites. Even using eBay you end up getting caught out, getting negative ratings and even payment disputes.

My girlfriend broke up with me and wants my cats?

My girlfriend and I got these cats 2 of them when we were together. 1 we went together to get the other she found but I bought all the food and litter for them. They are both no registered or brought to a vet. She broke up with me over a month ago and these cats are now 2 years old both gotten when kittens. She wants both of them back but I don't want to give her either of them. They are in my house she doesn't have any of them is it possible for her to make a court date or anything like sue me for the cats even though she left over a month and hasn't seen or paid for the food or litter since?
