How Do I Roll My Own .

How do you roll your own menthol light cigarette?

I've recently decided to roll my own cigarettes to save money, and was wondering how I could reproduce or closely reproduce the taste of a marlboro menthol light. I've seen regular strength, light, and menthol tubes but not menthol light. Should I just buy the light tubes and then try to buy menthol tobacco? I'm new at this so I am completely in the dark, please help! Smoke nazis spamming 'I hate smokers' need not answer.

How can I roll my own tobacco?

Easy, once you get the hang of it.You’ll need your papers, filters (if desired) and tobacco. Any commercial tobacco should do, I used to use cheap tobacco myself but I heard some people prefer brands like Golden Virginia because it was a little more moist and easier to roll with. You can also choose different tobaccos for their taste too.Take your paper and make sure you find the side with the gum - this is the side you lick - you should be able to notice a slightly darker translucent line where the gum is. Take the paper and position the gum opposite to you facing up like so.Notice the yellow line highlighted represents the gum side.As seen in the diagram, take a reasonable pinch of tobacco and set it inside the paper. Use one finger to spread the tobacco out fairly evenly, use as much as you want but it helps to start out with a moderate amount rather than small.Once the tobacco is spread across the centre, fold the paper up with the tobacco inside and ‘roll’ with your fingers, kind of like this. Basically, lightly rubbing the paper up and down and compacting the tobacco into a neat cylinder. It may take a few tries at first…Once done, take a filter tip (or don’t use a filter) and insert it in one end, rolling one last time. Once rolled, roll up the paper over the tobacco once, lick the gum, and then carefully roll up the cigarette fully.Try and roll it nice and tight if you can and if needed, twist up the end to stop any residual tobacco from falling out.I realise it’s not easy explaining it without lots of diagrams but hopefully you get the picture. There’s plenty of video tutorials online if you need them/

Should I roll my own Node.js framework?

I would say no and here is why:Firstly: Not every web developer specializes in the front-endThere are some like me who revel in it and love working with it. And there are others who look at it and say 'meh' It sounds like from your description what you really should be asking is do you want to do front end development?  And from your description the answer would probably be no.Writing a front-end framework won't change that, in fact it will most likely be even worse than coding a simple site. Why? Writing a framework is a big project that requires a broad understanding of what the framework will do, how it plans to accomplish it and most importantly embody the ideals that you have about developing front end architecture. If you're dreading front end work on small simple sites, a bigger project will only be worse. If you're new, the breadth of your knowledge will be limited by your experiences. And taking both into account I'm not sure if you have any strong personal ideals about how front end should be coded. So then, rather than sink your time into something you hate, why not pursue something you love? You mentioned that tools were something you were passionate about. How about focusing on making  nifty tools or JavaScript based programs? The html/css is minimal and given your interests there are cool things you could do for practice and fun. Here are a few ideas (they may not be original, but so what?): - Drawing program on the web (bonus points if 2 people can draw together)- A library that can create reports from a API integration (with modular components that a user can select)- Chat application- Todo list application that can sync with your calendar- Git repo visualizationOr think of your own. Just code, have fun and learn.

Computer Science: Where did the phrase 'Roll your own' come from and why is it used in CS?

[Someone has downvoted this answer, not really sure why, but I always like the way how the Quora community tries to improve on the quality of answers ;-)]Lot of language like this is rooted in the 70ties, which in turn inherited from even earlier scene speak. Rolling your own cigarettes (or other herbs...) was quite common those days among progressives/alternatives, and an expression of nonconformism, at times when smoking was socially accepted.See, you have to recognize that the personal computer revolution and lots of the foundations of computer science in general which happened in these days was the work of a bunch of nonconformists/alternative/post hippies. Know who this is?It's Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, probably sometime in the mid of the 70ties.Here is how a recent Turing Award winner (most prestigious thing CS has to offer) looks today (it's the great Leslie Lamport, and he got the award for his early work from those days):The NYT times published just today this interesting article: Google and Apple: the High-Tech Hippies of Silicon Valley. It's about the new headquarters both are building in the valley, and the architectural patterns they are choosing.Coming to the acquired meaning in Software Development, it is not necessarily bad by itself to roll it yourself (for those who are or were smokers, it isn't there either, just the opposite in fact). Any of the below can be valid:We better roll this ourselves instead of taking the heavy dependency on this library.Rolling this ourselves will be a lot of work. We better get acquainted with the foo-library and use this, even though it is heavy weight.

How much money would I save by rolling my own cigarettes?

I'm thinking of switching from buying cartons of cigarettes to rolling my own. How much does it cost to buy the tobacco and rolling paper per cigarette? I'm paying around 30¢ a cigarette now, but at 50 cigarettes a day it really adds up. How much would it cost me per cigarette to roll my own? I'm in Florida if that matters.

If I got a rolling machine, would the cigarettes come out to the same size as regular cigarettes? And could I fit 20 in a Camel pack?

What do I need to start rolling my own cigarettes?

First you have to find a tobacco blend you like. That's the hard part. Don't expect it to taste anything like your regular brand.

Many rolling tobaccos are now relabeled as pipe tobacco to avoid the higher taxes. Getting your supplies at a gas station means you are going to be paying top dollar. Look for a discount smoke store.

The little hand rollers are cheap in most areas and can be had for as little as $3 depending on where you live. Filters run me around $2.50 for 200. I buy bugler papers, (115 papers in a packet), for around $1.20 but it may be higher in your area.

Is it better to roll your own cigarettes than to buy them?

I have always maintained that it is far better. I have various reasons to do that. It’s cheaper (at least in Europe): with around 10€ you have enough tobacco, papers and filters for 80–100 cigarettes, instead of spending 5€ for 20.It tastes better. After years smoking tobacco, cigarettes taste like shit. Really. And I’m not the only one, almost all people I know that smoke tobacco would refuse a cigarette if offered. It’s more fulfilling. I can go many hours after a smoking tobacco, while cigarettes always leave me unsatisfied. It’s cooler. Let’s just admit that.Customization. Dry or moist tobacco; thick, thin, long or short papers; regular or slim or no filters. And the quantity of tobacco in it is the one you want.

How can I make a Malboro Smooth roll your own tobacco?

I just started rolling my own cigarettes and I like that it costs less but I can't seem to find a blend to match a Malboro Smooth cigarette. If anybody knows of a tobacco or filter that tastes like a Malboro Smooth please let me know.

P.S. Do not tell me to stop smoking I will not. I am an American and a veteran and I will smoke whether you like or not. :D

Is rolling your own cigarettes healthier?

Is rolling your own cigarettes healthier?I will say that, when I switched from factory cigarettes to halfzware, my smoker’s cough went away, but smoking cigarettes is certainly not a healthy practice.Inhaling smoke into your lungs is not a healthy thing to do. I don’t know how much healthier smoking good tobacco can be, nor do I know what kind of additives are added to factory cigarettes. I know they taste like crap. If you’re concerned about your health, and still want to enjoy tobacco, I can recommend pipe and cigar smoking. The difference here is that you don’t inhale the smoke, so these forms of tobacco use are much safer than cigarettes. Also, much better tobacco. That said, I have long rolled my own using halfzware, a Dutch style of tobacco. Since the SCHIP tax, only Peter Stokebbye’s Amsterdam Shag has maintained the same level of quality in it’s tobacco, so that’s what I buy. It’s not that the tobacco has gotten worse, but rather that, to save money, they don’t clean it as well. Thanks, Obama! Peter Stokebbye’s Amsterdam Shag is free from small stems and bird’s-eyes.I don’t smoke this tobacco for my health, but because it tastes and smells so much better than American factory cigarettes. If you’re going to kill yourself, it should at least be for something good, and American cigarettes are just awful. Go down to your local cigar store and get a bag of Peter Stokebbye’s Amsterdam Shag. Open it up and smell it. Now smell your pack of cigarettes. If that doesn’t convince you, nothing else will. And even with the SCHIP tax, and in spite of being imported, it’s still cheaper than factory cigarettes.Another benefit is that you’re not polluting the environment with cigarette filters. You won’t need, or want, filters with this tobacco, nor complicated stuffing machines. Get a small rolling machine for five bucks, and learn how to use it. It’ll fit inside your tobacco bag, (or you can roll up some before leaving the house). I recommend the Rizla machine, if they have it. The tobacconist at any good cigar store will be happy to help you. Save that bag the tobacco came in. You can buy this tobacco by the can, and reuse the bag to carry everything around. Whenever I need a new bag I just buy another one along with the cans, but they last a long time.
