How Do I Sleep Better

How can i sleep better at night?

There are a lot of techniques, try searching for sleep hygiene. A few that I suggest:
take time before you go to bed to think over your day, rather than doing it once you get to bed
keep a notebook and pen by your bed so if you're up thinking you can write it down and let it go
if you're still awake 15-20 minutes after laying down, get up and read, go back to bed when you're sleepy
don't do any work or reading in your bed- use it only for sleep and sex
don't use your computer for a while before bed- the bright light doesn't help
develop a pattern to help your body know when it needs to shut down for the night- such as always reading for 20 minutes or so, or having some decaffeinated tea, or writing, anything relaxing
learn mindfulness and practice it- it may sound strange at first, but studies show it helps

Is 2 hours of sleep better than no sleep?

yup

Is it better to sleep for an hour or not sleep at all?

The human sleep cycle is a complicated thing, and it has a rhythm.  The sleeper tend to rise into a "shallower" REM sleep about every 1½ hours, from which awakening is easier.  One hour tends to find the average person in stage 4 sleep, from which awakening is very difficult; in my experience one will be groggy and good for nothing – in fact, still partially asleep – until that full 1½ hour mark is reached.  The three-hour peaks tend to be shallower than the odd-numbered 1½ hour peaks. If brief relief from sleep deprivation, with acceptable functionality on wakening, is the goal, one hour is probably not the right time.  Either catch a 15-20 minute "catnap", or go the full 1½ hours, preferably three. But you can only do this once, maybe twice, before having to sleep long and heavily.  Short sleeps like this heavily deprive the brain of REM sleep (because most of our REM sleep happens later in a full night's sleep); and lack of REM sleep is particularly detrimental to cognitive function, especially memory and judgement. (This is why late-night cramming doesn't work well; REM sleep is the period during which one consolidates memory.)You need your sleep; shortchanging yourself in this area is destructive to body and mind. (And also, if you're doing things like operating heavy machinery or power equipment on sleep deprivation, or a similarly fraught activity such as energetic-materials chemistry, then other people's bodies, not to mention property, are at risk.) Seriously, if at all possible, get your sleep.

How to sleep better/longer ?

It sounds like your boyfriend has a serious problem. This problem can escalate to bigger problems. If your boyfriend can't find the 8 hours of sleep he needs, then you should go get a doctor's opinion. But here are some great tips:

If you sleep with any light on, or T.V., turn them off. You won't get a good nights sleep and you will feel terrible. What time is his shift over? If he has to wake up at say, 7 , then he should go to bed around 9 P.M. Distractions that make it hard to fall asleep are the ones that make it a bad night sleep. For example, for a year I had a fish tank in my room, with the filter going on all night. I slept with a lamp on and the T.V. on. Ever since I stopped doing that, I have slept fine. If you need further information, e-mail me. I'm up for helping you. :).

Why is a night sleep better than a day sleep?

As our bodies and brains grow, they learn to relax and cool down after dark and to bounce into action in the morning. Those who work at night and sleep during the day, must go against their bodies’ natural relax and cool down time, in order to stay alert and function at night. Even if they sleep 8 hours during the day, it still won’t make up for circadian misalignment. The circadian clock is a timer that lets certain glands, in our body, know when to release hormones. It also controls our mood, alertness and body temperature. Circadian misalignment occurs when there is a mismatch between our environment’s time and our body’s internal clock - typically when we make ourselves stay awake while our body clocks are promoting sleep or vice versa.Going against your natural sleep cycle causes sleep disorders and fatigue. Fatigue tends to worsen moods, decrease cognitive abilities and reflexes and it makes people more vulnerable to disease. So a night sleep is always better than a day sleep.

Is two hours of sleep better than none?

The average person needs around 8 hours of sleep within a 24 hour period. It doesn't have to be consecutive, but it does need to be quality. So yes, something is better than nothing.

How can I sleep better on a school night?

1) Get into a routine. Go to bed at the same time every school night and wake up at the same time. Your body will adapt to this and make it easier to fall asleep and wake up.2) Get some exercise during the day. At least 20 minutes of medium to high intensity (provided you are healthy enough to do so).3) As Carolina Sanchez pointed out, don't eat right before bed. 4) Find something relaxing to do the last hour before you go to sleep. This will give your body and your mind time to unwind. 5) When you go to bed, actually try to go to sleep. No glowing screens (TV, smartphone, tablet, etc)
