How can we improve health care in America?
It seems that some major health care providers have a tight grasp on health policies, charege way too much and dictate what the health plan will cover. Millions of Americans go without health care and it's very sad. What are some resolutions or ideas that you have which can improve the health coverage of Americans as well as lower the cost? No name calling or pointing fingers. That never solves anything.
My parents don't have health insurance because of Obamacare. What can we do?
Not sure how the ACA did that but the answer is to reprioritize your life or pray you don’t get sick until you make more money or get employment that includes such perks as part of the compensationI hear this every day and not assuming this is your scenario but every day I get someone in who says they can’t afford insurance as they drive up in a new Ford F150 or the like and the kids sit in the waiting room playing Game Boys and wearing Nike sneakers worth $100+Society’s responsibility to provide care to everyone in its borders is long gone as we no longer can afford itIf you are healthy I suggest you focus LOTS of energy on eating well exercising avoiding processed junk and alcohol and tobacco and do everything you can to stay healthy to avoid the need for insurance as you won’t need medical careAs soon as you can start to prioritize your employment and lifestyle habits to align everything making medical insurance higher up the poleDr. Dave

What happens if you go to the ER for suicidal thoughts?
if you go your parents will be notified immediatly, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. when i had to go it was a big shock to my parents but they were supportive. the first thing the hospital will do is ask you numerous questions, if you are safe at the moment if they admit you will you need to be put in restraints stuff like that. it will get personal but you will need to answer honestly. they might ask to see your scars from where you have cut and if you have any recent or open cuts they will probably clean them for you next you will sit in a room until someone says they have a spot open for you on the adolescent psych ward (this is if they even choose to admit you) if you do go you want to make sure that you are admitted VOLUNTARILY and not on a 50-1-50. sometimes employers will ask if you have ever had a 50-1-50 (a mandatory 3 day stay in a mental institution) and you don't want to lie about that. also being voluntary means that you can leave "whenever" you want (but you have to have your parents permission) just because you are on a 50-1-50 doesn't mean that you will stay for 3 days but it means that if the hospital deems it fit they can keep you there for that length of time. if you are at a hospital with a psych ward and it has space you will probably be moved up there. you will be assigned a psychiatrist who will see you every day and you will be put on "safety status" until you prove that you are able to keep yourself safe. they will go through all of your belongings to make sure you don't have anything dangerous and they will confiscate anything that you do have. you can never have pens and often you can't have pencils... there are a lot of rules. if the ER you go to doesn't have a psych ward you will get sent by ambulance to a hospital that does it is a lot of work to go through, but i am glad i did it. i got help when i needed it most. just because you don't have depression doesn't mean you don't have something else (i am thinking you might be a manic bi-polar) good luck and i hope things go well for you. keep yourself safe please sorry i talked so much but i want you to have an idea of what you will be going through if you choose to go. the scariest part for me was the not knowing what to expect
