What is the best way to delete all unwanted Emails in gmail?

Maybe you signed up for a newsletter ages ago and it just won't let you unsubscribe. Or some store keeps sending you offers. Or that volunteer committee that you helped out once just won't take you off their mailing list.If you can't get a specific someone to stop emailing you, you can get Gmail to delete those messages from your inbox automatically by setting up a filter. Here's how.Step 1: Click on the settings button on the right-hand corner of the page.Step 2: Click on the Filters tab.Step 3: Click on "Create new filter" on the bottom of the page.Step 4: In the next screen, tell Gmail how to identify the messages. If it always comes from the same email address use that. If it always uses the same subject line, use that. You can also have Gmail search the message for specific words, such as "PTA volunteer committee."Step 5: Click on "Create filter with this search."Business Insider/Gmail/screenshotStep 6: Click on "Delete it."Step 7: Click on "Create filter", and click on "Also apply filter to matching messages" to have Google sift through your inbox and delete the ones from that sender.Voila! Annoying emails gone.Business Insider/Gmail/screenshotTip: If you are nervous that it will delete messages you need, you can use "Skip the inbox" and Google will remove the message without deleting it. The message will show up in searches.Or you can set up a folder and have the messages filed automatically there, to look at later.

How do I delete all the emails in my Gmail inbox by one action only?

Note: This only works for Gmail and is updated to March 2, 2019. Lots of these posts are old and thus not relevant anymore since Gmail is always changing the layout. This does not pertain to unsubscribe, but there is a blurb at the end for those who asked since it is relevant for spam.Follow the below steps carefully:In the left box where you can see your different mailboxes (Inbox, Sent, etc), scroll down and select ‘More’.Select ‘All Mail’Click the check-mark to select all the emails in the current view, and then click ‘Select all x conversations in All Mail” (see screenshot)Hit the garbage can button above the emailsThen, select ‘Trash’ from the same left box where your different mailboxes are show and select ‘Trash’.Click the box above to select all the messages in the folder and click ‘Delete Forever’.Now all of your emails are deleted forever. This does not unsubscribe you from spam emails. Even in google’s spam folder, it does not catch all the spam, and sometimes mistakenly puts important emails in there. Also, sometimes you do not have the username and password to unsubscribe, and you are not able to.For this, tools exist. A famous example is Unroll.me.I personally prefer newer applications, of which there are many. These have better usage and design and take less time.My personal favorite is Mr Clean, linked here. This one automatically identifies the least relevant emails and allows you to delete them or even put them in a hidden folder that deletes after 30 days. I like this function in case I mistakenly put something.Best of all, no spam and easy unsubscribing means a less cluttered life and more focus on the things that make me smile, like my pet fish Dracula and eating pancakes in my overalls.

I have over 18,000 emails on Gmail. How do I delete them all at once?

I needed to update this post to add 1 extra step because Google added an additional piece of verification to this process. Most likely because of me showing tens of thousands of people how to delete all of their junk mail.I also got a bunch of comments below saying this “doesn’t work” but rest assured my friends, we are back in the game with this “1 simple trick.”Warning! You are probably about to delete a huge amount of email, please be aware of what you are doing. Always backup your email before attempting to delete your email or any data for that matter. If you scroll past this page you acknowledge that you will not hold me liable for any damages that may be incurred by deleting email. Thanks! This method is mainly for when you have a HUGE amount of emails and don’t feel like deleting them a hundred at a time.I’ll start with this illustration, and then talk a bit about it.Click to enlargeStep 1: Go to the Gmail search bar and enter in today’s date or the date you want your email deleted from. So if I want everything from today deleted I would enter:before:2015/05/22
Meaning – delete everything before May 22, 2015.Step 2: Check the magic box. The key here is you will see a notification that says “All conversations in this search are selected.”This basically means all 10,000 emails are selected, not just the default 50 or 100 emails that you see on your screen.Step 2.5 Updated – In addition to checking the magic box, you now also need to click the link that says “All conversations that match this search.” Google added this extra step sometime in 2016 to make people think twice before selecting huge amounts of email to delete / move / archive / mark as spam etc.Step 3: Click the trash button. You will probably get a warning which you will need to affirm. Once that happens it might take a minute or two. I just deleted almost 10,000 emails and it took about 2 minutes. You might get a “still working” message while you wait.Other thoughts on mass deleting a lot of Gmail messages at onceYou can use this method to do a bunch of other stuff such as archive your email, mark it all read, mark it unread, or delete it.Please note that if you are using this method with a connected email + domain, this may or may not delete the email off your server depending on your mail server setup. You’ve been warned, but let me warn you again. Think before you hit that delete button, because you ain’t gettin’ those emails back.

How is it that I can go through all my Gmail emails, the trash file, and the spam file, “view” everything, and still have an app notification of “60”?

Are you only using a mobile app? If so, I assume you’ve checked for updates and restarted your device. Can you access your gmail from a web browser, and in the top search bar type is:unread and press “enter”?You should see a list of your unread message (if there are any) that may be hiding in some other folders (labels). If there aren’t any unread messages anywhere, I wonder if it might be an app issue?

How can I do block unwanted email from my gmail account?

Since email is not controlled by a specific company, it is impossible to not receive emails from someone, similar to a phone call. However, gmail offers some very nice filtering features that will let you decide what you want to do with that email after it arrives in your mailbox, just like you can block a phone number on your phone. If you go to Settings, then the Filters and Blocked Address tab, you can set up filters to automate processing of certain emails that correspond to the rules that you selected.
