How do I teach my 9 Year old Jack Russell Terrier to Focus on me?
Ok here is the full story. I recently wanted to own a dog. This is my first dog ever. I have only ever had cats. So I got a hold of this lady and she told me she would give me a rescued 9 year old Purebred Jack Russell Terrier for free. She is a trusting lady and they brought me him the next day. He was from a family with a child but the child grew up and they did not have time for him anymore. He went to the rescue and then he came to me. He is house trained. He knows a few tricks. He was taught not to bark. The past 3 weeks he has peed on my bed twice. So I wanted to teach him how to ring a bell so I know when he has to do out. First I tried to teach him how to ring the bell on the door but after about 20 minutes with no progress I gave up and went and watched a youtube video on how to do it. Then she said that I need to teach him how to touch objects first. So I started getting him to touch my palm and saying touch and then giving him a treat. It worked somewhat. He will only touch my fingers if it looks like I am holding a treat. He will not touch the palm of my hand. I do not have a clicker but I am going to buy one once I get paid because when I snap my fingers he seems to listen somewhat. He does not listen very well. I have to yell angerily at him to get him to fully listen to me. If I let him outside to go pee he will wander off and will not come to me unless I yell and I make it sound like I am mad at him. He is very dependant on me. He follows me around and we have caught him on the kitchen table staring out the window for me when we go out. He growls at the cats. He is always by my side. I am guessing the reason why he peed on my bed was to mark his teritory and to tell me he is the leader instead of me. I am trying to show him I am the leader and he is suppose to listen to me but he will not focus on me he keeps looking away at other things and gets distracted very easily. He is very attached to me and follows me every waking moment. He sleeps in my bed. I am trying to train him but it is difficult when he wont listen or focus. I have tried holding a treat infront of him and moving it to my nose so he looks at me but he gets distracted and wont focus.

Haii =] my jack russell barks woof woof high pitched all the time, will not stop, unless someone is by his side. i have tried spraying him with a water squirter, but he licks it all up and its sorta hilarious to watch. im punishing him and he licks it! ^^;; and he wont play ball unless there is someone standing where he can see. if we go indoors, he will just stop whatever he is doing and come by the door side, waiting forever till i come out, and he goes back to playing ball. ==" but i cant stay outside everyday so he can play!!~ he is one. jsut to let you know. and oh yeah, when i bring him to meet my cat, he is so hyper, and he goes for her tail, which leads to her hissing and sctraching and biting the dog, and that makes him mad and he starts barking and growling? x,x

The one I'm thinking about getting is 3 doors down. She is not from a mill, and is a single puppy. She has been well socialised, they have 4chi's, a lab mix, a shitsu mix, 2 cats and 2 older kids, but all the neighbourhood kids visit. They are also fostering a gorgeous rescued dog-blond border collie. He was 2 days from being put down at the pound. So she is from a busy home and used to commotion.
