How Do I Tell If A Rabbit Is A Female Or Male

How can I tell if a wild baby bunny is male or female?

The only reason I took it in, is because my rottweiler killed its mother, and siblings. I didn't feel the need to add that to the questions, because it wasn't a very nice thing to talk about. I know how to take care of bunnies, and you have no idea. I know how to tell whether it's a boy or girl, but I was just wanting to know if I could do it at such an early age. Gosh, I wish you would answer the freaking questions rather than being a jerk about it...

How to tell if a male rabbit is neutered?

I got my rabbit about 4 or 5 years ago at pet smart. At pet smart he was with other rabbits in a cage. I was sort of young so I didn't know what neutered was and didn't ask the employees of he was neutered.

Now since I'm more responsible and mature, I'm trying to figure out if he's neutered. I want to get him a rabbit friend because I figure he's lonely all by himself. Help please? Thank you!

Is my female rabbit in heat? ?

I have 2 female rabbits. They are about 10 months old and they have been in one cage for there entire life. They were even in the cage together at the pet store. The guy at the front desk said that the cage we bought was plenty big enough for both the rabbits even when they are full grown. But about 2 weeks ago the black ribbit got very mean towards me and the rest of the family which is very weird because they are both very friendly rabbits they have always been handled my humans. It is also trying to mate with the other female rabbit. Does this mean its in heat? So I have now separated that rabbits and the black rabbits attitude is much better. So tonight I thought maybe she got over and I tried to put the white rabbit back into its original cage but then she got mean again and also started to mate again.

Another thing that was weird was the black rabbit started loosing all of her fur under her chin and down both of her sides. I googles what it could have been and it said her dental but she has perfect teeth because we buy those salt rocks to shave down there teeth whenever they chew it. What else could this be?

So basically why is my black rabbit trying to mate with the other female?

Why is she loosing fur?

And is she in heat?

Can you tell if a rabbit is male/female by the way it pees?

No you can tell the sex of your pet rabbit by the way it pees but you can try this.
Sit in a comfortable chair and hold the bunny in your lap for a few minutes. When bunny is calm, gently cradle him/her with belly up and head, chest and back curled against your abdomen, and hind feet facing away from you. Be sure to firmly support the back, and don't allow the bunny to kick. A rabbit's hind legs and back muscles are so powerful and his skeleton so light (rabbits are built for quick getaway!) that one kick in a bad position can actually result in a spinal fracture!

The prepuce is the fuzzy protuberance between the hind legs. Gently press down on the anterior part of it (the side facing you), and the pink tissue inside will emerge. In a young female, the tissue will appear somewhat conical, with a slit running from the tip, backwards towards the tail. In an older female, the tissue may be more "fleshy", but the slit is still generally from tip towards the back.

If the rabbit is a young male, the pink tissue will appear more like a cylinder with a small hole in the center. If he's starting to mature, the tip of the penis may protrude. A neutered male's penis will usually not be large enough to protrude, though this is not always the case. A mature, unneutered male will have large, obvious testicles (more than one inexperienced bunny parent has mistaken these for "tumors" on their "female" rabbit, prompting Kevin to christen them "Bilateral Perianal Testosteromas") on either side of the prepuce. They are usually pinkish with rather obvious veins, but may be grey. They are somewhat "sausage shaped" and start just in front of the prepuce and curve backwards towards the tail. If the bunny is frightened, he may retract the testicles, making them hard to see.

How can i tell if my male rabbit is neutered? ?

It's very unlikely that he is neutered unless you adopted him through a rabbit rescue or an SPCA with a spay/neuter program. Having a vet check him over would be the best way to tell because it can be tricky on rabbits. Their testicles can move between the abdomen and the scrotum, particularly when they are nervous. So, it's not as straight forward as it is on an adult rodent. However, you should be able to see a penis either way.

Just a note though, if your mom isn't likely to pay $130 for a rabbit neuter then how are you going to have the female spayed? It is very important that the female be spayed because they are at a very, very, very high risk of developing cancers and infections of their reproductive organs. Please make sure you either adopt an already spayed female, or else wait to get another rabbit until you've saved enough for the surgery. A spay will be more expensive than a neuter.

Edit to respond to your additional info: Don't feel bad, like I said sometimes they retract their testicles when they're nervous. So, sometimes they're there and sometimes not :-)

He might be able to get along with a spayed female but there's no way to say for sure. It's easier to bond two rabbits that have been altered because there are less hormonal urges and they are just generally calmer. He might spend a lot of time harassing the female though because he would still feel a strong desire to mate.

How do I know if My Lion-Head rabbits are female of male?

hi if young baby rabbits hold them on there back apply a little pressure around gentils boys will pop out in an o shape a girl will open into an half moon shape if 5 months or older the bucks testicals will be exsposed good luck

My female rabbit does not want to breed but my male rabbit forcefully did it. What does that mean?

It means you should keep your rabbits separate or spay/neuter them and then possibly bond them if you want them to be together. If you are intentionally trying to end up with baby bunnies I suggest you research breeding thoroughly as this is not a situation that is appropriate for someone who does not know anything about breeding. I had a Dutch rabbit 30+ years ago that I bred- since she was a female she had to be taken to the male to be bred. I was a “tween” and this was before the internet but I read a lot from a book I bought and books from library and asked any questions I had to the owner of the registered buck (male) rabbit. This obviously took permission from my parents as it involved transporting a rabbit to another rabbitry. I kept some of the offspring- both males and females in separate hutches. I never considered putting a male and female together as they were related (2 litters from different male but same doe (Mom). And my parents would have been very angry if I did something so irresponsible (and rightfully so).I am glad that I am an adult and can own rabbits on my own terms- in the house, spayed/neutered and littertrained living in a large x-pen with no traditional too small rabbit cage.

Does a male rabbit mate with a female rabbit, even if she is pregnant?

He will try to hump anything but the female will not be receptive if she is a good breeder. Wild ones will rarely if ever allow a male to mount if she is currently pregnant. However sometimes it happens in domestic stock or pets. It's not a fun thing to find. They have 2 functioning horns on their uterus. When the first has a litter planted into it, thats now blocked. The semen from male #2 will go to the other horn and implant a new litter. For this to happen she had to of been pregnant for at least a few days to a week (otherwise it'll just be a litter with multiple sires which happens in dogs, cats, and other multi birth animals) When the first, largest litter is ready to be birthed, they ALL come out even the half formed still viable second litter.

How can you tell if your rabbit is a boy or a girl?

That is a girl ^^^^^^This is a boy^^^^

How do I know if my female rabbit has really been spayed?

Okay I recently bought a female rabbit from a lady that could no longer care for her due to health reasons. Now she had told me that she got her from the Humane Society, which then I would assume my rabbit (Nalla is her name) would be spayed, right? But she humps all her stuffed animals, one bear about her size especially, and she is our only rabbit. And also I was petting her, she loves to have her back scratched she lick my free hand the whole time I scratch her back, cute huh! Anyway that's not my point, got a bit off track, anyway I was petting her and was patting her very fluffy little tale and all of a sudden she lifts her rear end as she would to a male rabbit I would assume. So would she still do this even though she has been spayed? And she is about 3 years old and I again would assume she had been spayed quite some time ago because there aren't any visible surgery scars or any sign that is has been done recently. So what makes her so..... "horny" I guess would be the word to describe her actions! Oh and we have a neutered male cat ( fixed many, many years ago) and a spayed female dog. Now Nalla just loves our dog to death and always wants to cuddle and snuggle up with her even though Sammy (our dog) isn't a small dog she is a mutt and about the size of a Lab, but Nalla just always wants to cuddle with her and that's all but the cat, now there's another story! Nalla, when ever she is near the cat, the first thing she does is mount the poor cat and hump his brains out! Which of course since rabbit bite when they hump, the cat flees for his male cat pride! So why love the dog and hump the cat? Oh Nalla is a Holland Lop and the cat it just a bit bigger than she. So all these butt lifting (presenting?), stuffed animal and cat humping dog loving questions! Can some one please help me out here?? I'd greatly appreciate it!! Thank You - Kris
