How Do I Tell My Manager That I Want A Raise

How to politely ask for a pay raise?

I have been at the same job for 2 years now. When I was hired I was told I'd receive a pay raise after my 6 month review. Well I had that 6 month review at and that time I was given positive remarks about how great a job I was doing but that there would be no pay increase due to a pay increase freeze. Back then it was 2008 (times were hard to find a job and I didn't want to push it) so I just said not a problem that I understand. My manager then said it would be possible for another pay increase after my 1 year review. Well you can guess what happened. Same excuse during my 1 year review. Still had high remarks about my excellent performance. Once again said sorry but no pay raise. Well yesterday I've had enough, when I found out 1) that the new girl with no EXPERIENCE in my field is making $9.00 p/h and I'm still at $8.25 p/h, and I'm a a much harder work and always there for them when my job needs me to come in, or do extra work or even work the night shift when nobody else would do it. 2) lazier people who don't do anything hardly are getting paid the $9 p/h. What should I do. I've already asked my manager to discuss this today. Below is how I asked here in an email. But what I need to know is how I should ask her for more $$$$.

Thanks YAHOO!

message to manager:
[boss name here],

I was just wondering when reviews would be happening, and when we would be able to review my current wages. I'm very positive about my job and the hotel, and would like to discuss this with you when you are free. (I understand if not tomorrow 3/5 because we are extremely busy). I'd be very grateful for your advice on this.

Thank You!!

My manager and a director know that I want a salary increase, although I agreed to stay until January as they promised to have a salary review. Should I expect a decent salary increase or am I just played to stay until January?

I think someone told me years ago that a corporate budget is set for the year in January so more than likely they are waiting to see what the budget for raises will be for the year before they can offer you any kind of raise. Also a pay raise this late in the year would be difficult for a company that sets a portion of the budget aside for staff retention since that money would have most likely have been allocated by March since most staff probably know that the beginning of the year is your best bet to increase your comp. Best of luck with the review, they might try to lowball you but its a pretty certain thing that they will at least offer you something to keep you happy.

When to tell my boss my wife is pregnant?

Although I`m sure your boss will be happy for you and your wife should you choose to mention the 'happy event' this is no reason for you to be given a rise in salary. At the end of the day it is only the success of the company that concerns him/her and any raise will be given on merit. It`s up to you as a new father to put in the effort and get that raise.

Maybe you should ask about promotion chances ie what you need to do to get a promotion.

Good luck and congratulations

Should I threaten to quit to get a raise?

I’ve been with this employer for 5+ years- it’s retail and my store has a high turnover rate so that means I’ve literall been there longer than any manager. Long story short, during my annual review I was told my management and my corporate supervisor that I would be getting a big raise effective on a certain date. A month after that date had passed I found out I was not getting paid was I was promised- I asked them about it only to find out that it wasn’t approved by corporate HR and no one bothered to inform me about it. They said it wasn’t approved because store management felt I needed to improve on my communication skills, but when I asked them what specifically I neeeded to improve on they had no idea what I was talking about and said that they never said that. HR still won’t give me the raise I was promised so I’m wondering if threatening to leave will help or not- me leaving will definitely hurt the company (this year alone I’ve already saved them over $200,000 while I only get paid about $32,000- they also constantly have employees from other stores call me so I can train them). My threat would be real- I can go do the same job at any other retailer and get paid significantly more than I do there- I am positive I would get hired if I applied based on my experience. I would prefer to stay with my current employer, but I want what I was promised to me. Should I threaten to leave or not?

Any advice for asking for a raise at walmart?

Greedy much?? A$1.05 increase is extremely greedy in a place like Walmart I wouldn't ask for more than a quarter or .50 it may not seem like a lot but it is once you add how many hours you work into the mix

Ty and most places will never give you more than about .50 anyway. My husband usually gets about .35 every time he gets a raise at home depot

How do I tell my boss I need a promotion/raise, or do I have to find a higher paying job?

Great question! There are a few steps to preparing to ask.You must ask right after you have had a big sucess, meeting a major deadline, securing a client, saving the company time and money basically, high performance. You must only ask him/her when he is in a good mood, you will need to wait until he’s is having a good day, this will increase your chances of hearing a yes. There have been studies done (you can google) that suggest the best time to ask someone for something is over food.Company’s financial status, asking after an end of financial year is good. Because they are reassessing company budgets and expenditure. You can get another offer letter from another company and use the offer to push your boss up in salary to keep you.In the end you just have to ask and show good results.Good luckSky
