How Do I Tell My Supervisor I Want More Hours

How to ask for more hours at work?

Just go up to them and say, "Hey do you have any extra hours?" After that you can negotiate how many extra hours you'd like.
I've never sent an email for this kind of question, I find it easier to just ask. I don't know how it is with your work, but for me (retail) there's usually extra hours around every corner. If not, you can always pick up shifts from other people like a mad man. "Oh you can't work Friday? I'll pick up your shift!"
After a while people will start coming to you every time they need a shift covered.

How can I tell my boss at my new job, that I need to work less hours to attend classes at school? I'm in USA, can you get fired for asking for less hours if you prove you are going to school?

I was just reading this, which indicates to me that you can indeed be fired for asking about that. Point 10 drove it home for me:“10. Myth: Your boss must have a justifiable reason for firing you.Fact: Your employer can fire you for any reason at all or for no reason, as long as you're not being fired because of your membership in a legally protected class (race, religion, nationality, sex, marital status, disability, and so forth). You can even be fired because your boss doesn't like your laugh or the color of your shirt. There are two exceptions: one, if you have a contract, which most people in the United States do not; or two, if your company has an employee manual that commits to always using specific disciplinary procedures before firing someone. In the later case, your company is generally obligated to follow those procedures first.”I think this is insane. You shouldn’t have to worry about job security for asking for reduced hours. Either way, this answer on a different question can shed some light on how to go about doing it.Good luck!

How do you convince your manager to give you more hours, especially when they're cutting hours across the board?

The question here is, "how valuable are you?" When you're asking someone to pay you more money you need to provide more value. When a company is cutting back their workers, or hours for their workers, or anything else; usually the reasoning behind this is a lack of income. Companies are very pragmatic. They spend money if it will make them money. (There are those short sighted companies that won’t spend money for any reason. They do believe that the best way to make money is to not spend it. Just like your grandpa who told you that you could get $.25 if you cleaned his entire house and cleaned up his entire yard.)but I digress. If what you're looking for is to get more money out of your company you have to help them make more money. The sales person who gets paid the most is usually the sales person who sells the most. The manager who speak it's more of a raise, is the manager who found ways to make the company more money. Not knowing what your job is I can't tell you how you could do it. However, look at your job: how can you help your company make more money? Now, why do you need more hours in order to make the company more money? And of course, why are you the right person to do it?show your company a value proposition we are giving you more hours gives them more money, make sure that there is as little risk to the company as possible, and you get more hours. Unless, of course, you work for a company that is not going to give you more hours for any reason. If that's the case then that's the case.As a quick sidenote: one other element that typically goes into a decision like this is what kind of employee are you? If you are a trustworthy employee who works hard and is not considered someone who goofs off, proving to them more time for you gives them more money is a much easier thing to do. If your company thinks of you as someone who is a clock watcher, who doesn't work hard, is always busy socializing on the company dime; showing them you are a good investment is much more difficult.

How do o tell my boss i dont want to work every weekend anymore?

I have been working at this coffee shop for 10 months and in this time the management has changed twice, meaning including the manager who hired me I've had 2 other managers since. The manager who hired me told me I would only work Saturday once a month, we are a Christian owned company so we aren't open on Sundays so no issue there. Well since the management has changed I have some how gotten stuck working every Saturday for months now. There are 6 other employees who could work Saturdays but they stick me and another person on Saturdays every weekend. I'm getting fed up. To top it off I was hired to work mornings and they now have me working nights
My boyfriend works a normal 9-5 m-f job and we live together. He has weekends off so I'm stuck here nearly every night and Saturday and don't get to spend much time with him anymore. I also make less tips working at night than I used to make working days. Keep in mind too I have seniority over every single person who works here because the turnover rate is so high. Please some advice?!?

Why is my coworker getting more hours than me?

We both work part time, we both have open availability, she started after me, we both do a good job, yet she consistently gets 20-25 hours a week and I barely get 15.

It's a sales job and I was top seller two weeks in a row, I always do a great job, I'm never late, have never called out, I take shifts for coworkers when they ask, stay late if I have to, yet my hours aren't changing and I'm getting angry. This coworker is the only one who gets that many hours and she's the newest one out of all of us part timers.

I m pretty sure my manager wants me to quit my job but I hate the idea of someone getting to me and causing me to quit. What should I do?

So I work at Arby s, 17 yr old male. It s my first actual job I ve had besides concrete and construction work that s undocumented for clear reasons (I m a minor) (Private Company) I used to have 25-30 hours weekly (Part time) I graduated from highschool a year early so I was working at Arbys the rest of the school year. Later when summer came and school got out, we got more people, I got less hours. I was also given all the grunt work, even though I am a minor in their store and all that.. I m not a grunt. I was told that since school is restarting ill get more hours starting last week. Now, I go in, stock the lobby and drive through and go to my cleaning and maintenance duties. After cleaning everything, they send me home even though I m still scheduled for another 3-4 hours. I think they want me to quit but I hate the idea of people beating around the bush and not telling me directly. Should I wait it out? Should I find another job then quit? The Regional Manager always comes in and compliments me and talks about managerial positions. Then he leaves and its back to cleaning. To me I think my manager is scared of my success.

I work in pizza hut and cant get enough hours!!?

I am only getting around 10hours a week at the weekend, I want around 35-40hours a week as i need to pay rent and bills. Would it be ok to phone another Pizza hut and ask them if I can work in their restaurant during the week and still stay in my restaurant at the weekends. Or how would I go about doing it I have only been in the company 5 weeks.

Thanks xx

What do you say to your boss when you overslept by an hour?

This happened to me.A few years back I was in a job that had 9–5:30 office hours. That being said, I regularly turned up at 8am and left at 6pm (although the first 30 mins were usually eating breakfast and reading the paper). One day I woke up feeling something wasn’t right. Sunlight was streaming in the window and I was feeling surprisingly well rested. My heart sank, I hurriedly checked my watch and saw the time was 10:45am. Panic!Do I rush and get in the shower? Do I call my boss? Reason re-asserted itself and I dialled my boss. I was honest and apologetic. His response?Total laughter, seriously he went on for about a minute before he gathered himself. Apparently my “unusual levels of contrition” (I was a bit arrogant back in those days) and “grovelling” was hilarious to him. Once he was back to his usual dry self, I was told to get in when I could and buy him a coffee on the way in, I told him a few things I’d missed that were urgent and he covered them for me. I arrived to a sarcastic level of applause from all and I hung my head for the next few hours and cracked on. I left at my usual time once I’d tied up everything I needed to for the day.The lesson here? Bosses are human too and the chances are they’ve been where you are. Be contrite, apologise and be honest. DON’T do it regularly and all you’ll have to suffer is the odd piss take.Nowadays, I tend to work for companies that are more focused on delivery and don’t care where I am or when I turn up or leave. Ironically I work harder and give more hours as a result.

What do I do if I find out my boss has hours to give people but he's refusing to give people hours?

Walk up to him and say “Sir/Madam, I know it is none of my business but I have noticed that there are still hours available and you have not assigned them to anyone. Is there any way I can assist you with this?”You might be surprised that there is actually a good reason, but either way it is their job not yours. That being said, if you think that they are breaking the law or some company policy I would suggest you take the matter to their supervisor. Be sure to follow the appropriate chain of command or your issue will not be taken seriously if you work for a decent company.
