How Do I Train A Kitten To Be Indoors In Mexico

Can i be allergic to an outdoor cat but not indoor cat?

It's possible to be allergic to something your cat gets into outside, or that being outside encourages the cat to groom itself more (and thus deposit more saliva/allergen on its fur) but if you're allergic to a specific cat, you'll be allergic to it whether or not it goes outside.

Genetically, some cats have higher levels of allergen than others, so maybe what you're reacting to is a specific cat, not whether the cat goes indoors or outdoors?

They make all sorts of products to help keep allergen levels down. I have anti-allergen wipes that I run over my kittens' fur every once in a while, when I'm feeling like I've had a particularly strong reaction to them.

How can I train my coonhound to leave cats alone?

a hound has been programmed with a chase reflex.
teaching the hound not to chase is to attempt to rewired his genetic make up, you possibly may be able to keep the situation stable for short periods while you are present but the hound will never be able to safely be left alone with the cat I'm afrade. One wrong move by the cat and it will instantly be nothing more than a good chase the best you can do is to out the cat in a bedroom when you will be out.
To keep the hound from constantly going for the cat take a long hard look at him...he will
Silently tell you when he is about to jolt after the cat. His gaze will fix on the cat, his body posture
Will stiffen slightly, the hair on his back may even raise slightly in anticipation of the hunt.
When he gives these hints is when you take his attention from the cat.
give him a good hard three finger poke to the side of his ribs getting him to break
His stare from the cats every move. Once he looks at you take him from the room without a word
put him outside to play with his favored toy or better yet out a leash on him and walk
Until he is all tuckered out. With a tired body comes a tired mind. No longer able to focus
On the cat he will pass out in the floor. I have heard of some people puTting pennies in a can and
When the dog is in red alert shake it. The noises does two things.
One brings his attention away from the cat and two frightens him teaching him to chase the
Cat is of no use....still I must stress a hound unsupervised will chase anything that mimics
The pray it was bred to hunt.

Can my indoor cat get sick from an outdoor stray cat?

There are two stray cats that come around periodically. They are both clean looking and are maybe even outdoor cats someone owns. I am not sure. With the weather being nice, I have my windows open. I haven't seen either cat in awhile, but this evening when I walked into my bedroom, the stray cat was sitting on the windowsill on the outside of my bedroom window, meowing and "talking" to my cat who was sitting on the inside windowsill. Only a screen seperated the two cats. I thought it was really cute, but I shut the window right away because I was worried my cat could catch a disease. Is this true? I heard Feline Leukemia is airborn. Now I am paranoid about leaving the windows open, for fear they may get sick. Is this a valid concern or am I being overly paranoid? My cat is behind on his vaccines, but only because she has some behaviorial problems that we are working on in order to take her in. She should be good to go to the vet this Fall. Any feedback?

How to train cat to stay close to home?

I do not own a cat but I may in the future.
I am very curious how people train there cat to stay near home and not run away and not to run into the roads.
Or do they teach themselves?

How long can new born kittens live without their mothers milk?

Call the vet on Monday, and make her a spay appointment for 8 weeks from yesterday. This way it will be waiting for her when the kittens are weaned, as sometimes vets can get backed up and it can take weeks to get on their surgery schedule. Remember also that cats will come back in to heat, and will get pregnant again even if they are nursing a litter of kittens! Keep her indoors, or you'll have litter #2 on the way while she's nursing litter #1. This isn't healthy for her, or litter #2 as there is only so much nutrition to go around.

Newborns must feed every 2-3 hours. This cat's very young, still a kitten herself, and she may or may not have a desire to mother her kittens. Keep an eye on her, and if she refuses to care for them properly you'll need to take over by bottle-feeding them KMR, every 2-3 hours around the clock.

Keep her and the babies in a place that the other cats cannot get to - if mom feels threatened she may abandon her litter, or the other cats may kill them. You are responsible for keeping the babies safe, and while that may be inconvenient, remember that you allowed them to be born, so you need to ensure that they are safe and healthy.

Can kittens live outside and if so when?

To allow a cat of any size to live outside puts alot at risk.

Feline leukemia is a common fatal illness amongst cats, especially those who are allowed outside contact with other cats who may never have had vet care of any form much less the basics.

But first and foremost to allow a cat of any size to roam, subjects them to untold numbers of risk.
The first of which is illness, attacks from dogs and other cats, plus they are major prey for coyotes(which believe it or not DO indeed frequent residential areas), along with hourly risk frequenting areas they may not be familiar with such as traffic and mischevious children not to mention plain out mean humans.

They generally mean no harm to anyone for they are doing what nature teaches them for they do help hold down the bird and mice population.

Personally feel they are not creatures intended to be left to fend for themselves.

How to keep a cat from using the dog door?

I love animals and I want to get a cat, my parents are fine with it if we can figure out how to keep it from getting out. Where I live we have a cyote problem. I have two dogs and I already lost two to the cyotes. We have to keep the dog door so the dogs don't piss all over the floor when we're away at school, but to keep the cyotes away we built a dog run. So when the dogs go down the deck there's an 8ft fence keeping them from going into the backyard and the cyotes can't get over it either. However its not exactly cat proof and I'm pretty sure the cat could jump over the fence, go under the stairs, or jump from the railing to the ground. SO, I don't know what to do. Have any of you had this problem and can I just train our kitten to not go through the dog door and spray it with water when it comes near? Or should I try to cat proof the dog run? Help please! An please don't comment "dont get a cat" or anything of such.

How do I train my cat to stay in my yard?

I brought my cat in from the streets when he was about 8 weeks old and it's been just about a year from that day and he's started wanting to go outside again. I don't want to be a bully and make him stay inside so instead I've gotten him an extender leash that he goes out on, it's tethered down so that he cannot escape my back yard. I was wondering if there is a way to train him to stay in the back yard without the leash and without fear that he'll jump the fence in the neighborhood and take off. (Due to one of my neighbors that is catching the cats and sending them to the pound.) My grandmother has done this for her cats but when I ask her how she's done it she says she's just been lucky and they've not left.
So, if you've trained your cat successfully in staying in the back or front yard, without wandering off, let me know how you did it! Thank you so much!
Oh and I know someone will ask if he's de-clawed, no, don't want him picking a fight he doesn't have a chance in ;) and if he's fixed, yes, this neighborhood doesn't need anymore crazy kittens.

What are the consequences of yelling at a cat?

So I have this new (to me) couch. It is a fabric couch. With nice, straight vertical sides.just like a scratching post.My old couch was some kind of microfiber that did not lend itself well to digging in the claws. As soon as the new couch arrived, my lovely Gin immediately raised herself up on her hind legs and began scratching on it. And my immediate reaction was to yell at her, “HEY! *pause* stop it!!!!”Of course, this startled her, she stopped what she was doing and looked at me, kinda scared. (I never really ever raise my voice at home, nor do I ever yell AT her) So I took a few steps toward her and she ran off.I figured this was the way to train her to lay off the scratching on the couch. (she has a carpet covered scratching thingie—which she never uses unless I drizzle catnip on it)I also put clear tape on the front part of the couch and sprayed some of that ‘cat away’ spray on the areas I’d seen her scratch.I was really concerned that my new couch not be shredded, so I watched her pretty closely and did the ‘yell’ if she started up on the couch.(BTW—she normally scratches on the rug—which is totally fine with me, so it’s not like she has nowhere to scratch.)Anyway, the long and the short of it is that she now knows if she wants my attention, the thing to do is to start scratching on the damn couch and I come a-running. It’s her way of communicating that she’s mad at me.(isn’t she lovely?)A few weeks later I was in the kitchen cooking. She’s hanging around me in there meowing like crazy to get me to put out her food an hour earlier than normal. Apparently she figures, ‘mom is in the kitchen, that’s where my food bowl is, so why isn’t she feeding me NOW?’ After hovering around, meowing for a while and getting no food she leaves the room. The next thing I hear is her scratching on the couch. And I come a-runnin and a-yellin. (I did not reward this behavior with food, but put her outside and fed her an hour later as usual.)The other morning I wanted to sleep a little later so I locked her out of the bedroom, so she’d leave me alone for a while. After meowing at the door for a bit, things got quiet. I thought, ‘oh good, I have some peace. Maybe I can doze off…’ WRONG-o!! The next thing I heard was her scratching on the effing couch. And (of course) I come a-runnin and a-yellin.It’s only been a few months, but she’s got me trained pretty well now.

How can I convince my parents to let me have my dog inside the house while my parents are insisting that I keep the dog in a kennel?

Dogs are pack animals, and it's cruel to leave them lonely in a kennel outside especially since weather affects a dog like a human. If it must be in kennel is heated or shaded and airy? Your poor dog is likely miserable. If you can't reconcile this issue with your parents he would be better off with a different family. However dogs do like their kennels when they're inside. They are Den animals, like foxes. If their kennels are clean with clean blankets and cozy you can train them to stay in their kennel, but they can still be near you.Your dog needs regular baths and flea treatments, grooming of the coat and nails and even having his teeth brushed. He needs regular and frequent exercise that means more than once a day. Your dog needs regular veterinary check-ups . Your dog needs to be spayed or neutered .He needs company and play. In short it's like having a child with all the responsibilities of children. If you are not providing your dog these things even though he's kenneled outside you are not a good dog owner already. If you if you are really devoted and dedicated dog owner you will try to find a way to have your parents compromise over the dog such as letting him stay in at night in a kennel near your bed. You would not leave a child out by himself all night and dogs are vulnerable as well.if you cannot meet all these things and get your parents on board with these ideas you should probably find your dog another home.
