Why is the brightness on my laptop changing without my input?

First of all, relax. You have not been infected. What you experienced was Adaptive Brightness in full swing, it is a sensor feature based on the ambient lighting. This allows your screen to adapt to your environment- with this your screen automatically adjusts itself to suit the surrounding. It's available on Windows 7, 8 & 8.1 and can be configured if your computer has the necessary hardware. To see if your laptop has any of these sensors, here's what to do:• On Windows 7- Press the windows key and type in Sensors, select Location and Other Sensors.• On Windows 8- Go to the Charms bar, select search, type in Sensors, select and you can view the installed sensors. Here's how to disable Adaptive Brightness1. Open Advanced Power Setting for your current power plan2. Expand Display and Enable Display Brightness, then set adaptive brightness to be turned on or off when your laptop is On Battery and Plugged in3. Click on OK

A window will appear as shown below and click on “Let me pick from a list pf device drivers on my computer”5. opt for intel(R) HD graphics and give next, then close all windows and give restart.6. if u don’t have two option, don’t worry go for “microsoft basic display adapter” and give next, then close all windows and give restart. Now you may not be able to increase or decrease brightness!! don’t worry!!7. then repeat from step 1 and now you will get two option like in step 5 and now you do step 5, close all windows and restart the computer.-Poorna :)

Toshiba NB205 Screen won't turn on at all, how do you fix this?

Get ready for a long story. i was given this fairly old netbook and for a while it worked fine but recently it started not to turn on properly after it shuts down. I keep seeing that people have a similar problem but they still get the Toshiba boot screen. I don't get that at all. The machine appears to turn on but the screen stays off. all the power indicators are on but the screen stays off. I know it has nothing to do with the battery because It was completely charged. Before it was easier for me to turn it back on but now it's not cooperating with me at all... The power indicators still turn on including the white one under the screen and the one at the base of the keyboard portion of the laptop. So that much hasn't changed, however the laptop isn't turning on anymore. I used to just take out the battery for a while but that doesn't work anymore. if anybody has had any luck finding information about this please share it with me. I can't really afford a new laptop so I need this particular one to work before the next semester begins. thanks!

Toshiba Laptop disabling FUNCTION KEY?

PLEASE people of Yahoo Answers, I need your help desperately.

I just recently bought a new laptop- a Toshiba Satellite C55Dt-A, using Windows 8.1. My problem is, my F1-F12 keys are all being used for various functions (turning the volume down, up, brightness, etc) but I don't have to hold the FN (function) key to use them, much like a Macbook.

Does anyone have any clue how I can disable these F1-F12 function keys so I can press them freely ( for a game I play ) or make it so I atleast have to hold the FN Key before I can use them.

Thank you!!!

My laptop turns on but the screen is black. What do I do to fix it?

Other answers have jumped to a hardware fault. Perhaps not incorrectly, sure. But I'd first make sure we're not dealing with a software issue, or any other "have you tried turning it off and back on again?" sort of things.First, and foremost, does your laptop have a "Display Off" button? I have a Sony Vaio which has one of these. It's a flush bezel button near the clamshell hinge. I have absolutely no fucking clue why it's there. But it is. The only thing I can think of is it's a "privacy" button...for when you can't quite hit the (x) close button on the browser window when your spouse walks in on you ogling (.)'s.Since you didn't post a picture I will assume that you mean the screen is entirely black. No faint glow, no nothing? In other words, it doesn't look even remotely like this [note the blinking cursor]:Have you plugged anything new into your laptop recently? A new USB device? A new external drive? Do you have a docking station? If you have a docking station, does it behave differently if on or off of it?Have you verified that your battery is charged, and that even if not, your power supply is providing proper charging to the battery when it's plugged in? My laptop has a little lightning-bolt LED that indicates the power supply is properly plugged in. Sometimes those stupid connectors can become loose -- or worse, crimped [kids knocking the thing about, etc.] -- so that they don't make a proper connection. I can't tell you how many times I've sat down with my laptop that had been "plugged in" for hours only to hit the power button, see it appear to go through its start-up groans, only to have it fizzle-out and not work shortly after.Do you have a recovery disc for the OS you have installed? What happens if you turn the power on with that in the laptop?Do you have a USB memory stick? If so, there are a bunch of different things to try here Boot and run Linux from a USB flash memory stick, even booting DOS from it.

Windows Mobility Center, Display Brightness, does NOT save?

Windows Mobility Center, Display Brightness, does not save when I tell it to save.

My Toshiba Vista laptop is fun to use, but my eyes are sensitive so I like to turn down the brightness.

A couple of days ago a query came up that asked if I wanted this brightness level to stay the same all the time. It told me the procedure for saving it.

So, I did that.

I am expecting that this setting will be saved and that whenever I use this computer it will be at that same brightness level.

But this is not the case.

I find myself having to re-set it and re-save it every time I turn on the computer. Not only that, but also, if the computer goes to sleep or if I close the clam shell, it goes back to the default setting.

So I am wondering, is it POSSIBLE to really save this setting for good?

I think logically enough to expect that once I save a setting, it will operate the way I want it to, from then onward. I don't expect to have to re-set it every day, let alone many times in one day.

Are you a tech who knows how to make this stick?

Again, it is in

Windows Mobility Center,
Display Brightness

I find it in the Start Menu.

Thanks again!
