How Do I Write A Song

How to write a song?

Writing a song is different for everyone: sometimes I start with a chorus then work around that. There's no right or wrong way to approach songwriting. Do whatever comes to you, whether it be writing the verses first or chorus. At times the method that you've always used will change, and you can't control that.

Here are some tips:
-You can't force inspiration, so when you have writers block don't write for a day or two. Give your brain a rest. When inspiration hits, it's indescrible.
-Carry a notebook and pen with you so you can write down lines or a melody. That one priceless line can disappear quickly and you want to capture it before it does.
-Songwriting takes practice

How to write a song?

I know it will be hard to resist but considering your style of music, please stay away from the unbelievably cliche Canon in D progression (without the F#), Anyway, to write a song for me I need a stimulus to get started (watching tv, pictures, anything that sparks your interest) and I try to create a song that would fit that media or what have you. But sometimes I'll just have a lick pop into my head and I'll figure it out, and I don't really know what to tell you about that. One thing that can't hurt, though it may bore you is to listen to classical music because those musicians really started all the common songwriting techniques used today. But ultimately it depends on your amount of creativity, some people are born with lots of it and it usually, I hate to say, it can't really be acquired. I hope that helped.

Is it easy to write a song?

Having been in the music business for many years (Songwriter, Record Producer, Artist Manager, Record Label CEO), I can tell you one thing with some certainty.  If you already play an instrument...  Great!  Try to write songs using no more than 6 chords.  Keep your melody simple and memorable.  The most popular song melodies can easily be recognized in the first 5 to 10 notes.  Listen to your favorite music and you'll know what I mean.  Try to make the opening melody (the first few notes/bars) of your song 'ghost' your chorus melody (contain some variation of your chorus melody).  This way, by the time the listener gets to the chorus it will sound familiar to them and they will be able to sing along, or at least, hum along with the melody.  Getting someone to recognize the melody is 70% of the trick to getting them to love the song.Finally...  Write lyrics about things you know about. Use metaphores (look them up).  Say things that people feel but have a hard time saying because they are embarrassed or worried about being laughed at.  If they can hear that in a song lyric, they will feel better about singing along with that lyric.  I hope that helps!

I can't write songs? Help?

Musician Advice- Hey I think I can help ya. What you need to TRY (noone should tell you what to do in this area of life) stop listening to artist that inspire you...stop listening to music all together during your writing phase. Go from the heart and believe me, it will work wonders. Also TRY a basic melody and fly from there. Once you have a melody you are ready for lyrics. These are the things I do and I found it best. It may not work for you but like I said, Noone should tell you what to do for this question. You are the artist not them and not the bands that inspire you. Be yourself and find your soul rythm and write like crazy. Also, you are your worst critic. I deleted 2 gigs worth of lyrics and unmixed demos because i didnt like it but alot of others did. Get your pad and pen, KICK ***!!!!!!
