Fatigue: Why do people get tired while travelling?

There are several physiological reasons.tl;dr Travelling is stressful on the body, and stress can make you tired or fatigued. Most travelling involves sitting. Sitting is not as "easy" on the body as one might expect, especially when the seat is not ergonomic. For example, in an airline seat, I have insufficient lower back support, the seatpan is too deep, and my legs can't quite reach the ground. My muscles never relax. Taller people usually have to hold their legs at awkward angles. These minor things add up to a lot of muscle strain and stress. Most forms of travel are noisy. Noise activates our stress hormones. So just sitting there is no longer a relaxing, low stress activity. Instead, your body is in a prolonged stressful state which takes it toll after a while. There are several medical studies on noise, stress, and fatigue which basically say noise is bad for humans.Passenger areas of cars, airplanes, trains, bicycles, boats, etc are rarely at an "optimal" temperature. Even with "climate control" and other advanced features in my car, I find that I'm constantly too warm or too cold as the direction of the sun changes or the ambient temperature changes. Common carriers seem to have an uncanny ability to pick a temperature that is awful for everyone. This too increases stress and your body's energy consumption as it tries to adapt. For land-based travel, a lot of people don't wear proper eye protection (i.e. polarized sunglasses) and are exposed to constant glare--whether from sun or headlights. This causes eye fatigue and stress. It's also very distracting. There's also a significant psychological factor of that travelling is distracting. Even if you try to sit quietly reading your favorite book, your brain is constantly filtering out distractions like engine or road noise, other passengers, honking horns, etc. This is called directed attention fatigue.

Why is it when Chinese people travel, they bring so much food?

As a Chinese, I don’t do that, but I have seen many Chinese travelers stuff their trunks with loads of instant noodles and I can very well understand the practical reasons that make them act that way.Chinese people by nature are very “shy.” Chinese might be a nationality that is most exposed to cultural shocks. They feel uncomfortable talking to local people, picking up local customs, trying local delicacies, and getting immersed in local cultures, when they set foot in a place that is vastly different from that day-to-day surroundings. When they check into a restaurant the menus, sometimes printed in the local language only and without pictures, pose a huge, practical challenge. Most Chinese travelers have to struggle with English even if the menu is available in English or has an English translation. They love exotic things, but when it comes to eating, they not that adventurous.Over time, this has evolved into something of a fear. They have to pack their trunks for the “in case,” for example, 1) stepping into a place where the language becomes a problem, 2) looking desperately for an affordable meal among a bunch of restaurants that only serve things we would describe as luxury (usually those nice and affordable places are only known to the locals and the really curious explorer), 3) or even worse getting stranded in a place where they don’t have access to eateries. Well, instant noodles (all things easy to carry) are very convenient and can really help you out in those embarrassing moments. Their approaches to coping with challenges are rather “independent.”For those travelling with disproportionately huge trunks, they have another practical reason to serve. They’re carrying huge trunks so they can get packed with tons of exotic things when they return. Since they have to carry such a big piece anyway, they tend to make best use of it. The instant noodles packed in their trunks can have a padding effect. As they travel along, they eat up their things and start buying crazily. They eventually return with trunks as full as when they departed.

How safe is Johannesburg & Cape town SA? I'm Traveling there next week for vacation and I live in Ohio.?

Hello. Me and my Fiance (age 27 & 28) are Traveling to Johannesburg & cape town, SA for the first time ever. We live in Ohio & never been out of the country. We will be over there for 2 weeks. How safe is Johannesburg/cape town and what are the dangers we should watch out for? Also is uber/taxi services reliable? I was concerned because of all the crime & danger I read about joburg so we just want to be on the safe side. We are staying in the Downtown area of mobaneng and for cape town the centre bowl area. How safe is both areas? We are street smart as well. We just want to avoid areas that are dangerous and want to find activities we can do and explore while there like bars, eatery, museums, scenery, live music, festivals, carnivals, concerts, animals, mountains, beaches, meeting new people & socializing, night life, and more. Also I was told not to carry cell phones and lots of cash. I wanted to carry a gun for self defense but I don't have my CCW license so what are the best self defense weapons i should carry around. Taser or pepper spray gun? Thank you for any advice you give us!

How fast could you need to catch someone on a scooter traveling 19 mph?

The math for this can be complicated. There isn't enough information to answer. In addition to the top speed of the scooter, you need to know the distance between you, how fast the scooter accelerates, how fast the runner accelerates. If the runner cannot catch the scooter before the scooter becomes faster than the runner, you need to know for how long the runner can out-pace the scooter.

The pace of the runner will vary. A speed of 19 MPH will be a sprint for most people. They could only maintain that pace for a short time before being forced to stop. On the other hand, some people can top 20 MPH. Usain Bolt can average 27 MPH over 100 meters. Note the word "average." His top speed, at some point, will be even faster.

I hop you are not asking this because you are hoping to be the a*h* on the scooter, and are wondering if you can get away with it. Consider the mad person may be boosted by an adrenalin rush. Consider he may call the police. Consider they might be able to find you without him catching you.
