How Do The Rooms Add To The Mood Of The Story The Masque Of The Red Death

What are the moods in the Masque of the Red Death?

For English we have to read the Masque of the Red Death by Edgar Allan Poe, and then we have to tell about the moods in the story. It's an easy assignment, the only problem is, I don't understand a single word of that story. Or any of his stories for that matter. We have to give 4 moods, and then give a reason, or a clue from the story that gave us that idea. You can say one kind of mood more then once, you just have to give another reason for it. If you can help me out at all, i would really appreciate it.

If you have read "The Masque of the Red Death" by Edgar Allan Poe please help!?

What does the 7 rooms and colors represent in "The masque of the red death"?

This is from an essay called "Symbolism In The Masque Of The Red Death":
One interpretation of the rooms is that they represent the cycle of life. The first, blue symbolizing birth, purple being the developmental stage of life, green for the nourishment also associated with the development. The orange room represents the setting of the sun, the end of the day or life leading to the white room for the ascension into heaven. The seventh and final room being black velvet represents death. It is in the seventh room that draws a feeling of fear among the prince’s guests and is avoided. The room is entirely decorated in black except for the window panes which were that of a scarlet or deep blood color. There is a fire that prominently illuminates the room where an ebony clock stands striking at every hour.

What do the colours of the room in the masque of the red death symbolize?

Blue & purple are cool colors. Orange & green are warm colors. White light contains all of the visible colors (both warm & cool). Violet is the darkest, usually positioned at the bottom of the color wheel. Violet is closest to black in our visual perception than the other colors mentioned. My interpretation then is that we begin the party feeling cool (like children with no concept of time) and as we dance we become warm with our exertions (like teenagers impatient for adulthood and filled with passions). As we take a moment to cool off we see in the white the clearest representation of life. Then we near the end of the evening and we are in the darkness of night, perhaps the end of life. The black velvet is the absorption of all the visible light. In the Masque of the Red Death, the red glow through the window would cast a ruddy glow on warm colored objects darkening them to our vision and the black velvet would prevent reflections giving more darkening to vision. This darkening at the end represents death. It is also interesting that the cool blue is in the east (sunrise) and the black is in the west (sunset).

What does the music and the clock represent in The "Masque of the red death by edgar allan poe?

Traditionally, clocks often represent time or the passage of time. Poe uses the clock in this manner. The ebony or black clock stands in the last room of Prince Prospero's castle. Black is a traditional symbol of death. If you think of each room as representing a different stage of life, then the black clock in the last room has to symbolize death or time left until death. At a very basic level, the dancers understand this. After all, they came to the castle so they could escape death by shutting out all other people. But surely they knew they could not escape a natural process forever. Thus, they stop when the ebony clock chimes because it reminds them that their time is limited. That is why when the red death finally makes an appearance, he goes to the last room, the symbol of death, where eventually all the revelers die.

The music both sets and reflect the mood within the story. Look at this line: " And these—the dreams—writhed in and about, taking hue from the rooms, and causing the wild music of the orchestra to seem as the echo of their steps." At first the music had mostly set the stage: to have music in this period meant money, and to have musicians during the plague meant an act of defiance. However, with that line about the dream, a reader can begin to see how the music changes to reflect what is happening in the story. It gets wild because things are falling apart. And when it stops, that's because the party (and life) is about to stop.

What are some characteristics of meth addicts?

Rather than the obvious signs of the homeless rock-bottom addict, perhaps it may be more useful to see some of the earlier subtle signs:-Weight loss despite junk food diet. They may appear pleasantly trim.-Bad skin-Very talkative, full of ideas. Can be intellectually interesting and engaging but at some point it feels they are talking at you more than with you.-No meaningful follow through on said big ideas.-Prone to irrational shifts into angry outbursts. These can be very quick and weird in normal conversation. -vanishing, unreliable to time commitments... Like not answering the phone all weekend, with vague explanations. In reality they were asleep for 3 days.-strange tooth decay, like along the sides of the front teeth. Teeth ground down.-hypersexual at times in risky ways-extremely clean house. Spotless bathrooms and kitchens. And yet there may be a nasty pile of junk hidden somewhere with piles of unfinished projects and found objects -spastic bird-like motions. If they are into dancing this might seem normal -rapid shifts in mood. They may go from sluggish and grumpy to quick and talkative after a short bathroom break.-weird hours in general. Like texting you at 5am with some sort of question -paranoid delusions. This doesn't have to be conspiracy theories and mind control, it could be extreme jealousy and accusations directed at you. Then it may get weirder with obsessions that various people or entities are watching them.-fascination with parts of objects.Contrary to expectations, there are severe meth addicts out there who hold down jobs and the appearance of normal life. In fact meth is a drug that can actually increase brain speed and productivity. Meth users are not stupid while high, but they end up irrational. They are dimwitted only when coming down. This makes the addiction very insidious as the addiction outsmarts the addict and the people around them in subtly sophisticated ways.
