How Do We Properly Welcome Canada And Mexico To The Homeland

What's the legal, correct name for the USA, or US, or America, or United States or United States of America, or whatever it's called?

The official name is the United States of America. The US is one abbreviation, as is USA; United States and America are both shortened phrases from the United States of AmericaThe working endonym in official use in the English language is American. The United Nations officially uses the term American as an endonym referring to a person from the United States, and U.S. dependencies like American Samoa have the endonym for the same reason. Most native English-speakers use “American” as their colloquial term for a person from the United States as well. Some people, mostly non-native speakers, use “US-American” and other phrases like that because in many varieties of Spanish and Portuguese, Americano refers to any inhabitant of North or South America and is not the endonym for someone from the USA.Ironically though, Mexico is officially Estados Unidos Mexicanos (United States of Mexico). This is not the case in English, as Canadians do not identify as “American” and many would be offended if you called “American”.Exonyms like “US-American” are not official, at least not in English, and are not used in official documents at the UN. They might be used in Spanish UN documents; I am not sure though. In colloquial English usage, US generally refers to things having to do with larger stuff like citizenship, government, etc, while American refers to people, commercial products, and culture. So… (#=awkward/marked, *=ungrammatical)American carsAmerican peopleAmerican cultureAmerican moviesAmerican shoes*US shoes#/*US cars*US people#US culture#/*US moviesUS governmentUS militaryUS citizenshipUS dollar#American dollarAmerican citizenship (fine… for some reason)#American military (just a bit awkward sounding)#American government

Why is canada not apart of the usa. how did canada exist as a country? click for the detail?

The area that is now Canada was mainly colonized by French settlers from Atlantic to the Great Lakes. During the wars between France and Britain during the 1700s, the Brits won Canada away fromthe French, but the people were still mainly of French origin. So, later when the 13 American colonies revolted, the French people in Canada did not particularly want to be associated with the Americans.

The Americans tried to invade Canada several times and each time the British and Canadians whupped their butts.! Inthe War of 1812, not only did the Americans not manage to capture Canada, but the Canadians actually captured a good part of the Northern New England region of the USA.

Canada was not just a single colony - it actually was at least a couple, maybe more than a couple separate colonies that did not become fully connected together until the 20th century. Actually, I'm not sure that they are totally unified even now..... a good Canadian could answer this - waht about Newfoundland, P.E.I and the western and northern provinces, and the new province of the Inuits???

What did Native Americans call America before it was called America?

We know that modern America is named after Italian navigator, cartographer and explorer Amerigo Vespucci, who headed for the land called the New World in 1497. He was the first known Columbus era explorer to set foot in mainland USA. His name is in Latin Americus and thus this gave the name to the country and two continents of North and South America…well, that’s what has been taught…If it was named after Columbus instead, maybe this land would be called Christofferia or something. The literal meaning of Americus was by the way “Industrial leader”, which used to fit well for America. One Viking legend claims the continent was named Amteric after Erik the Red, where Amt means district in old Norse; Erik’s District. 11th century sailors called it Ommerike which means Farthest outland in Norse. Gothic term was Amalrik, or Kingdom of Heaven which is said the Pilgrims liked and preferred. Irish like to claim it comes from their Iargalon or a land beyond the sea. Gaulish name was Armorica meaning place by the sea. Welsh people meanwhile claim America is named after Richard Ameryk, another sailor. In Nicaragua there is a mountainous area named Amerrique, which means Land of the wind or the spirit. Mayans used to call their homeland Iq Ameq’el and Algonquin natives Em-erika, both resembling the name this has today. Old Gothic Lord of the work ethic was called Amalrich, also claimed to be an origin for America.African Moors talked about Amexem translated as coastal people, which also could refer to Mexico. Spanish people like to play down Vespucci’s role stating that Italian explorer’s real name was Alberigo Vespucci of Florence, and that he changed his name after hearing how America was called. Most amazing coincidence might be the Sioux natives in the Dakotas region. Their Chief Red Cloud namely called the area Center of everything that is. Much later Rugby, ND was proven to be the geographical center of North America.LaterAmerica has been calledThe Land of the Free, The Land of Opportunity, Home of the Brave, Land of Milk And Honey, Uncle Sam, The Melting Pot, The Western World and already mentioned The New World. In Europe America is also called Land Across the Pond. Chinese call it Mei Guo or Beautiful Country, perhaps because ‘Merica sounds a little like that in Chinese.

What is a good comeback when someone tells you to "go back to your own country"?

If they’re driving past you down the street and there’s no way for them to stop, shout back at them at top volume in your fakest Hollywood Chinese accent. It doesn’t actually matter if you’re Indian, European, whatever, as long as you’re a minority.“I SORRY I NO SPEAKA GOOD ENGLEFISH.”By then they’ll mostly have passed you, but if they’re moving slowly and not moving to get out of the car, add an extra line.“YOU TEACHA ME GOOD ENGLAND I GIVE YOU TWO DOLLAH”And then as they fade off into the distance:“HEY! YOU BE A MAN. DO THE RIGHT THING.”Basically, unless you feel like picking a fight right then and there, it’s best to confuse them with something that makes you laugh. They’re looking to ruin your day, so getting them confused, and whatever makes you laugh, ruins their purpose entirely. If they’re looking to pick a fight, the best response is actually not to respond, or to avoid, or, yes, to run.My personal tactic is actually to light a cigarette, but this is not a habit I advise starting if you don’t smoke. The reason I do this is, if it does come to a fight, I already have a weapon in my hand. Also these kinds of people tend not to bother smokers, strangely enough…they tend to beg for cigarettes instead.Lastly, it’s only offensive if you take offense. Sad as it is, listen to enough of these kinds of things, and they’ll stop being offensive, just because you hear so much of it. Just shrug, nod, and move on. And, if you’re in earshot of whoever, ask for directions in a perfectly naturalized accent.

Liberalism? Conservative? What do these really mean?

Wow...good job! Pretty much sums it up and yeah...prepare to be attacked with namecalling. I'm sure they are on their way!

Do local police, state police and FBI really have hostile encounters when one supersedes the other, like on television?

During my time as an FBI agent, I worked much of the time in small satellite offices called resident agencies. There were from two to five agents in them. With such small manpower, usually spread out over some distance in our territory, or with some agents on vacation or sick, we often had to handle crimeinvestigations or arrests alone. I'd often request help from sheriff's deputies, police detectives, or even constables in small communities to assist me with arrests or other operations. Then I'd be sure to back them up with my help and resources when they needed them. And it was not at all unusual to work with those agencies, or with agents in other federal agencies or with state police agencies such as the Highway Patrol or Texas Rangers or others such as the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. In fact, I also worked with officers or agents with the Policia Nacionale de Mexico, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Scotland Yard, and Interpol. We never had any problems over jurisdiction, organizing and carrying out search warrants, arrests, raids, interviews, or surveillances. We knew how to respect each other's capabilities and strengths. In my opinion, the old Hollywood movies and TV programs canard about the police and the FBI hating each other, grabbing jurisdiction, and not working together smoothly on cases is just a matter of one screenwriter or TV writer passing down this fallacy from story to story, and writer to writer, because they don't bother to do the proper research to learn how law enforcement works. Each agency usually has more work to do than they have time for, so they don't haggle over working high profile cases. Also, the FBI and other federal agencies have the capability to cover leads far away and to provide specialized and expensive equipment (sportscars, limos, airplanes, helicopters, surveillance vans, night vision equipment), and to utilize the FBI laboratory, including providing experts free-of-charge to testify in local cases--all things that a small community police force may not have the budget to afford. In my opinion, it always worked best to co-operate fully with other agencies. I made many good friends in other law enforcement positions. And the bottom line is that we all had the same objective--to help those hurt by law breakers and to put away the criminals who had no respect for others or the good of society.
