How Do Websites Know What I Do On The Internet

How do websites know what country I am in?

For example, I'm trying to get onto this website:

http://www.fearnet.com/

But whenever I try (I live in Canada) it redirects me to a page that says that I cannot access the video content on this site blah blah because I live outside the US.

http://www.fearnet.com/Geo-Filter.aspx

My question is, how do these websites know what country I'm in (this situation is strange, because yesterday I was able to access this website without any problems) and is there a way I can get around this filter so I can go on this website? (I'm 13, btw...complex and illegal technological hacking don't mix well with my IQ x_x)

Thanks to the people who answer this!!

Will every website you have visited show up on your internet bill?

nope your history shouldn't show up. dont worry :)

Do all the websites you visited appear on your internet bill?

No.

If ISPs listed all the pages you visited in a month then it would be pages and pages long. They could not justify the waste of paper.

The pages you view ARE recorded by your ISP, along with the date and time of visit though. They are stored for a minimum of 3 month incase of criminal action so that police can check your history. Its a legal requirement for ISPs.

They wont divulge this information without a court warrant though as it would be against the Data Protection Act.

Can my Internet service provider know which sites I visit?

Yes. Your IP and MAC addresses can be logged by the service provider. This is generally used to track your surfing habits so that online retailers and such can provide more accurate advertising for sales. It is also used as study for some to provide better services. They cannot use this information against you in any way unless you have been caught engaging in illegal activity over the internet such as hacking or building child porn sites and such. It is possible for all ISPs to track surfing habits, but not all do (unless asked to by law enforcement). Check your service provider's privacy policy to get more specific information.

Does the porn website show up on the computer bill?

I know computer bill... but i couldnt think of another way to say it.
Basically what I am asking is when the bill comes in the mail will it show the porn websites that has been watched. Or will the bill show that you have been accepted the consequences if you are under 18 and visting a porn website?

How do internet ads know what I am shopping for?

Hey ho, it’s my first answer in Quora! Will try to give it my best. Many websites implement codes to monetize their websites, whether its Google’s or other advertising exchanges’ codes. They track whatever activity youre doing; what keywords you’re searching, what products you add to carts, what products you actually end up buying; etc.Not only websites, apps can also track what apps you have in your phone, your location, etc. The more data ad publishers have (the more detailed and easier for advertisers to personify someone based on those data itself), the more expensive they can sell their ad slots.Ad publishers work with a lot of ad exchanges and ad networks to sell their ad slots to advertisers. Then, these ad exchanges and networks sell the slots to the advertisers along with the data they have. These days, digital advertisers are getting smarter, they wouldn’t want to advertise their product to people who are not interested in their product. Thus, they’re tracking people who are interested in their (or a similar product by their competitor) and show the ads to those people. Why waste money when you can specifically target the people you want to sell your products to?So, internet ads know what you’re shopping for based on the data the publishers/Google collected in order to know you better.
