How Do You Break/dislocate Your Knee

Can a knee dislocation.....?

Can a knee dislocation cause a fracture in the femur and bone bruising?
I went to a second orthopedic doctor for a follow-up after the first told me she believed my knee cap popped out and back in. At the 2nd appt, it was discovered that I had bone bruising/contusion and that I had a non-displaced fracture on the end of femur by the knee.

My question is did I get the fracture because my knee dislocated or because I hit the ground when my knee dislocated?

Thanks.

What does a dislocated knee feel like?

There is a big difference between dislocation of the patella (knee cap) and a dislocation of the whole knee. Usually a young male patient feels a pop in his knees while playing football and a young girl comes to you with the same complaint while dancing in the disco. They believe that their knee got dislocated outwards but in reality it is their kneecap and not the whole knee. They mistakenly believe so due to the fact that the knee cap dislocates outward and the whole knee bends inwards at the same time. After the knee cap is reduced (put back into place) they can walk again as if the knee is normal except for pain and swelling. On the other hand the dislocation of the knee is a very serious event caused by a high energy/velocity trauma like in a motor vehicular accident. It can also happen when the patient jumps to other side of the ditch causing severe twisting and bending of the knee. When the knee dislocates there is complete tearing of the ligaments, tendons and cartilage. There will be bone bruising as well. The worst event that could happen is the tearing of the nerves and the blood vessels. When the big arteries and veins tore there is a danger of the whole leg completely losing its blood supply leading to gangrene and eventually amputation. That is why we watch the patient in the ER closely. If necessary we ask for an arteriogram to check to what extent the artery is damaged. The knee is very unstable and dangling and must be supported to prevent further damage to the supporting tissues. If it is not possible to repair the damaged parts right away (ACL, PCL, Menisci, MCL, LCL, Capsule, Nerves, Veins, Arteries), we put it in an external fixator as a damage control measure.Dislocation of the knee in contrast to a dislocation of the patella (knee cap) is a CATASTROPHIC EVENT and therefore an EMERGENCY. The patient must be brought to the Trauma Department right away before he loses his leg.Above is a picture of the dislocation of the knee copied from Google for educational purpose only.

Breaking a bone or dislocation: What hurts worse?

I would say dislocation. Between your joints you have a specific type of receptor that goes to your brain that makes the joint itself move. You obviously don't have any never endings within the bone, just muscles or surrounding tissues. So while yes a broken bone would hurt, it would be the surrounding things that got damaged that made it hurt. Its not a direct pain, however with a dislocation its right at the joint itself and it therefore is more direct and would surely cause more pain because the synapses would be firing action potentials to the nerves informing your brain that something is wrong. Which in turn is suppose to get you to do something about it. Make sense?

Which is more painful, a dislocated knee, or a broken tibia (calf bone)?

Eh, it's debatable. It would depend on the degree of a fracture, a person's pain tolerance, and the damage done with the dislocated knee.

A lot of people confuse a dislocated patella with a dislocated knee. Dislocated knees are much more rare and dangerous. It's when the lower leg bones (tibia and fibula) shift out of position in relation to the thigh bone (femur). As a result, arteries and nerves can be damaged. Also, commonly, ligaments like the ACL is torn, which is a significant injury within itself. Immediate reduction is required to return blood flow to the foot if compromised. It's not as common and it takes a great force to dislocate your knee like in a car accident so I'm kind of leaning towards this one being more painful. Not only are your bones dislocating which is painful, your ligaments are being torn which held them together and there's risk for artery and nerve damage.

A broken tibia can be very painful too. However, a fractured tibia can range from a hairline fracture or stress fracture which would definitely be less painful than a dislocated knee to an open fracture which means the bone breaks through the tissues and is exposed through the skin. Imagine that sucker.

If you are talking about a common tibia fracture that is a clean break and a common dislocated knee which usually results in a torn ACL, then I would say dislocated knee takes the cake.

I have never experienced both and you probably won't find many who have experienced a dislocated knee. However, they may say they have, but they are really talking about a dislocated patella, which is much more common and I would have to say less painful, as I have suffered a dislocated patella.

A fractured tibia can range from probably a 5-10 and a dislocated knee I would say from 8-10. It really depends on how much pain a person can take and the degree of the injury.

Hope I helped :]

Which hurts more? a broken bone, a dislocated bone or a torn ACL/ligament?

Dislocation is nothing. Broken bones are bothersome, but not too much. Torn ACL is simply terrible. I completely blew out my knee during volleyball and tore my ACL, strained my MCL and PCL, and tore my meniscus. It was much worse than anything I've ever had done before, and the pain in the long run was (and still is, I still have the aftereffects yeas later) FAR more worse than anything else.

What does it mean to blow a knee?

one or more torn ligament inside the knee

How to break a leg or arm?

Me & my friend don't want to participate in playing basketball or running a mile in PE but we don't wanna get points taken off of our over all grade. What are some ways we could break our leg or arm? & I'm being serious.

What is the best way to break a leg?

Indeed if your life depended on it, the fibula would be the best as a sacrificial lamb. Agree with Jean Marion there, as long as your tormentor lets you get away with it. The entire affair smells of the Saw series of movies somehow...Given that the fibula is to be broken, at short notice and little instrumentation, how to go about it? Here's a WikiHow(ish) step by step guide:Get a hammer or any heavy blunt instrument of suitable size available.Lie on the side with the chosen leg to be broken upwards. If that choice is given to you, choose the side of your dominant hand i.e. right side up for right handers.Feel the bony prominence on the outer part of your ankle. This is the lower end of the fibula. Break it here and your ankle becomes unstable. So choose a point in line with the prominence around 15 cams above it, at least 10 cms. Going too much further up can injure the common peroneal  nerve and cause a 'foot drop'.Lift the 'hammer' and take it all the way back as your shoulder allows you to.Take a deep breath. Do not hold it. Holding breath for too long can knock you out.Remember ye Gods and let it swing.Thump.You should hear, or at least feel, a cracking sound. If not, kindly repeat till you do. Possible side effects include, but are not limited to, a large weal, breaking the other leg and shoulder dislocation. All said, the safest way to 'break a leg' seems to be to join the theatre and do a cracking job on stage. 'Break a leg' is a theatrical idiom for wishing good luck!

How can I hurt my knee on purpose? (ex how to tear the cartilage how to strain it etc)?

Knee problems/injuries often arise from 3 different situations:

1.) a rapid/quick twist or turn of the knee either in landing or moving
(that will tear ligaments, dislocate kneecap, sprain etc)
2.) a blow to the knee (someone kicked it, car accident)
(that could tear ligaments, break bones, dislocate)
3.) wear and tear injuries from overuse, overstraining, or age
(arthritis, patella-femoral pain syndrome, cartilage wearing)

Now, why you would want to hurt your knee? Idk
