How Do You Cook Instant Grits

How do you cook grits?

There really isn't much, if any, difference in the taste of slow cook and quick cook grits. Slow cook takes 20 minutes of boiling to cook, while quick cook only takes 5 minutes. Personally, I always buy the quick cook but if you want the old timey traditional experience try the slow cook.
Grits have a very "corny" taste, sort of like corn chips, which doesn't go well with sweet toppings. Grits are meant to be served as a savory hot dish. You can top them with butter or add in other things like bacon or cheese. Here is the basic recipe for a single serving of quick cook grits:

1 cup water
1/4 cup grits
dash of salt

Bring water to a boil and add grits and salt. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat, cover, and let stand for 2 minutes before. Serve in a bowl with a pat of butter on top.

For cheese grits, add 1/4 cup of grated cheese (cheddar or your favorite type). For bacon grits, crumble 2 slices of cooked bacon into the bowl and stir. Other tasty additions are ham and scrambled eggs.

Remember, in the South grits aren't just for breakfast. Cheese grits are often served as a side dish for dinner.

Enjoy

The original question is:How do you make instant grits?Answer:Pour a slightly rounded 1/4-cup of Old-Fashioned grits (not Quick grits) into a small bowl. Add 2/3-cup of water. Put the bowl in a microwave and heat on high for 2 minutes and 20 seconds, or until the mixture starts to mound (boil) up. Immediately take the bowl out and pour in milk (not too much or you'll cool it down; not too little or it might be too thick). Add sugar to taste. Stir with a spoon and smooth out any lumps. Enjoy!

How do you cook grits???

INGREDIENTS:
6 cups water
2 cups uncooked grits (Quaker, of course.)
1/2 cup butter, divided (The real stuff is always best.)
3 cups shredded Cheddar cheese, divided (Extra sharp, always)
1 pound ground pork sausage (I like it spicy!)
12 eggs
1/2 cup milk (I use skim.)
salt and pepper to taste (Fresh-cracked black pepper is great.)

DIRECTIONS:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a large baking dish.
2. Bring water to a boil in a large saucepan, and stir in grits. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer about 5 minutes, until liquid has been absorbed. Mix in 1/2 the butter and 2 cups cheese until melted.
3. In a skillet over medium-high heat, cook the sausage until evenly browned. Drain, and mix into the grits. Beat together the eggs and milk in a bowl, and pour into the skillet. Lightly scramble, then mix into the grits.
4. Pour the grits mixture into the prepared baking dish. Dot with remaining butter, and top with remaining cheese. Season with salt and pepper.
5. Bake 30 minutes in the preheated oven, until lightly browned.

Instant rice should in theory do what it says on the packet, so you shouldn’t need to cook it.If you look carefully at the contents (see opening instructions where to tear packet) you will see grains of rice which may appear like the leftovers of a Chinese meal some six weeks ago, but have no fear.Add a bit of soy sauce, get your best spoon out, and you can have an instant 69 in seconds.

How do grits taste and how do you make them?

To make them:
BREAKFAST GRITS (real ones, not instant)
1 ½ cups milk
1 cup stone-ground or other good quality grits
2 cups boiling water
1 teaspoon salt
pepper to taste
4 tablespoons butter
In the top of a double boiler, stir the milk into the grits, then add the water and seasonings. Stir well, cover tightly and place over the bottom, filled with an inch or two of boiling water. Cook over low heat anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half, or more, depending on the coarseness of the grind. When the grits are soft, add butter and serve.
Serves 4

What they taste like:
Grits do not taste like Oatmeal. They have a very calm and plain taste and are excellent with butter. I love grits. Try them with butter. Do you like popcorn? Do you like Corn on the cob? If yes, you should like grits just fine. If not, then you will when you turn into a grown-up!

Well for alot of southern people grits are more a salty food side dishh (or part of the main points in the dish for that matter) Like shrimp and grits, Grits-N-Cheddar other such... often they are served simply with butter irestaurantsts like Denny's (hah I asked for grits as a starter for my breakfast once... They thought I wanted accompaniment to my eggs and bacon avocado burrito) They were surprised when I asked for milk and brown sugar...

Hope I helped!

How do you cook eggs grits and bacon ?

instant grits are the easiest grits, just add them to boiling water, there are directions on the box and it costs about 1.00 for a box with a dozen servings. cook for recommended time and when they are done, add salt and butter, and cheese if youd like.
for the bacon, just put individual strips into a pan and cook on med-high heat until it is mostly not transparent,
leave some of the bacon grease in the pan on med -high heat after you take the bacon out and put it on paper towels to drain off extra fat.
crack a couple eggs right into the pan, and after about a minute turn down the heat to low and cover. cook for about 5 minutes.

put all on a plate, and voila- you have your eggs, grits, and bacon. personally, i tear everything into tiny pieces and mix it all up together.

How do i make grits?

Here are two of the easiest ways.

1. In a deep m/w safe bowl, measure grits and water according to the directions on the package. Cover with a napkin, and microwave -- couple minutes should do. Let sit for a few minutes. After doing this a few times, you'll get the hang of it and even adjust amounts of water/grits according to your tastes.

2. In a sauce pan heat up some water (eye ball it -- a cup or two) to a boil. Add a pinch of salt (not before this point). Turn heat down till the water simmers, and slowly add in a few grits stirring continuously (use a whisk for stirring). Gradually add a few more grits, and keep stirring. If the grits get "too" thick, add a bit of hot water to thin out.

Remember: a FEW grits go a LONG way. Also, be careful with the salt during cooking, for you can always add more after dishing grits onto your plate.

I enjoy REAL butter on my grits. Keep the salt note in mind when using salted butter.

Save the left over grits. Place in a foil lined and lightly sprayed baking pan. Spread out evenly. Throw on some slice up sausage (bacon bits, scrambled eggs, etc) and top with cheese (you favorite kind). Bake in the oven at 375 till the cheese is melted and to your liking.
