What is the best bourbon to drink straight?

In my opinion, it's a personal preference when it comes to bourbon. You may enjoy Woodford Reserve. It's family favorite, and one of my favorites to enjoy without a mixer. It can be found locally in most areas for a reasonable price, but not always in a bar or eatery.

Worth of I.W. Harper Gold Medal 86 Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey?

"John Lee" straight Kentucky bourbon; does it really exist?

Do some research. There are only around 7 distilleries still in operation in KY. Check the county/city where that bottle came from in KY. then check for distilleries in that city still in operation or in operation in the last 5-20 yrs in that area. Some distilleries produce more than 1 alcohol. I've never heard of it personally (but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.) , but it may be an export only (sold only outside the US) as a marketing thing. Also make sure it doesn't say Straight Kentucky bourbon style.... the style word is the kicker which means it can be made anywhere in the world. like champaign and champaign style.

I recommend not opening it and saving it, mainly because most bourbons/whiskies/alcohols aren't on the market for much longer than 10-20 yrs unless they have a distillery. And there is no John Lee bourbon distillery that i've ever heard of.

What is the best liquor/liqeur to drink straight (by itself)? I dont like it tasting too much like alcohol.?

Bourbon and Scotch are both Whiskey. Bourbon is made in Kentucky, and Scotch is made in Scotland (once again, both being two types of Whiskey).

By you saying you like vodka, rum, and liqueur, I'm assuming you like strong liquor which you can mix and be unnoticed, and low proof liqueur to take shots of. All liquor is going to taste "alcoholy", being the intoxicant IS ethyl. How smooth it is is another thing... A cheap, easy to drink liqueur:

Jager
Southern Comfort
Goldschlager

A good vodka straight.... Stoli is good, Chopin is a good potato vodka. Sailor Jerry is good, but not so much straight. Malibu is a good mixer, it's OK straight (very easy to consume, not necessarily quality).

What is the best way to drink Jim Beam White Bourbon?

The best way to drink Jim Beam White Bourbon is not to drink Jim Beam White Bourbon.Bourbon is brown. Vodka is white. Don’t get ’em twisted.

Why do people always drink whiskey straight up in movies?

It’s a trope used by movies used as shorthand to suggest that the person doing the drinking is a bad-ass.Whiskey is commonly known as a high proof beverage with more alcohol content than beer or wine. There are beverages with a higher proof, but they aren’t as common as whiskey. So, if you want to tell an audience, “this character is going to drink something with a lot of alcohol in it,” then you use whiskey.Characters who can drink a high proof beverage without wincing or falling off the bar stool are considered bad-asses. Not every character in the movies drinks straight whiskey—consider The Dude, James Bond or Tyrion Lannister—but the ones who can handle a beverage that is known for kicking the butt of mere mortals is definitely a force to be reckoned with.Whiskey is an easy drink to set up. You put a glass on the bar and pour in some whiskey. Done. A white Russian or martini takes time to prepare. Wine is easy to set up, but doesn’t say, “I can eat rusty barbed wire and spit out nails.”In real life, whiskey can be a sophisticated drink that allows you to experience the subtle nuances of a master distiller’s craft, or simply a way to get drunk. It’s not really any more bad-ass than vodka or gin, but it’s still pretty cool to pour two-fingers into a replica Blade Runner glass and pretend you’re about to run an Esper analysis on the Polaroid you picked up at a crime scene.I hope this answer isn’t overly nerdy, but if you like it be sure to check out my articles on The Nerd Manual, a guide for nerds and the people involved with them.

Should I, someone who never drinks whiskey, drink this $60 Bourbon?

Oh that is an amazing find. I used to hate bourbon. Absolutely hated it. I went to the liquor store and bought  3 bottles every week, one for my own consumption that week, normally a half gallon of rum or vodka or canadian whiskey; one for the cabinet in case I had a guest, these I never opened unless I had a guest, this was the high class stuff, I wanted to have the best of everything In my cabinet; and the last bottle would be a random mixer, normally these were not opened. Over time I stopped  buying bottles because I had 300 that I never opened. Thats when I started drinking.A few years back I came to the bottle of Booker's that had been there collecting dust for 10 years. I normally mix whiskeys with sour mix or coke but by all the luck in the universe I had nothing to mix it with. Mind you, I hated bourbon. I would have prefered to drink cough syrup or hand sanitizer. So I poured a nice little shot and I sipped it.MY GOD WHAT AN AMAZING FLAVOR THAT FUCKING SHIT HASThat is the best spirit I have ever tasted and I've had everything you can name. This stuff made me love bourbon, I finally understood how people drink that demon liquor. I understood why people risk the rock gut. This stuff made it all worth it.At 126.7 proof, I expected it to burn. Hell no, it went down like koolaid. It was as smooth as a baby's ass. It was nothing like I expected.Dont mix that shit, pour a shot or serve it up neat. Drink it slow, not to get drunk. Enjoy it, you have a little sliver of heaven there my friend, savor it.
