How Do You Fix A Motherboard On Xbox

Xbox 360 fried mother board. Can i fix?

How to Repair an XBox Motherboard

The original Xbox essentially functioned as a PC. The Xbox 360 is more of a dedicated gaming machine than its predecessor, but it still has many parts that can be used in a computer. The process for replacing the motherboard in either the Xbox or Xbox 360 is similar, however. Replacing the motherboard can fix errors, improve system performance or allow the system to be modified in certain ways. Replacing the motherboard in either the Xbox or the Xbox 360 is a simple process.

1 Turn the Xbox on its side. You will need to take off the cover to reach all the screws. Two of the screws are hidden underneath labels on the Xbox.
2
Remove the case. This will give you access to the hard drive and the motherboard. Remove the hard drive and write down the serial number that is printed on it. Set aside the old hard drive for now.
3
Unscrew the motherboard from the Xbox. There are nine screws that secure the motherboard to the case. Unplug the wires that lead to the game controls and the power supply for the unit.
4
Remove the head sink and the fan from the motherboard. These items will be placed on the new motherboard once it has been installed in the system.
5
Insert the new motherboard in the Xbox. Use the screws to attach it. Put the heat sink and the fan back on. (Newer motherboards may come supplied with a different style of heat sink that must be installed instead of reinstalling the one that the old motherboard used.)
6
Reattach the game pad and the power supply cables to the Xbox motherboard.
7
Install the new hard drive. After the new Xbox hard drive has been inserted, replace the top cover on the Xbox.
8
Screw the top cover back on. The case is now ready. Plug in the AC adapter and plug it into a TV set to test the console. After replacing the motherboard, you essentially have a brand new gaming system.

Tips & WarningsYou cannot reuse the old drive with the new motherboard on the Xbox. You must buy a new hard drive for the unit..

Scratched xbox 360 motherboard?

Like the other guy said, if you've broken a circuit you're going to have extreme difficulty repairing it. There's also no lifetime warranty on the Xbox 360, I don't know where you got that from. I've also done a home repair on my old Xbox 360 launch model but you're only buying yourself a few months tops if you don't get your system "reballed", that is having your solder points on your BGA CPU/GPU redone.

Electrical tape on a motherboard?

So I'm fixing my xbox 360 (Red ring of death) and I'm doing the penny trick. One guide I'm using said I can just tape the pennies down to the motherboard with electrical tape. So my question is, can putting electrical tape on the motherboard harm it? My friend who knows a lot about computers said it should be OK since the tape isn't conductive, but I want to confirm it.

Is it safe to use a sharpie to write on my Xbox 360 motherboard?

Yeah it's safe to write on it with a permanent marker, just don't use a metallic marker.

Xbox 360 motherboard components?

I am trying to find what part I need to order to fix my Xbox 360. It is a small black cube with 4 gold prongs coming out one side and they are bent down at a 90* angle into the mother board. It is on a jasper motherboard (not 100% sure on this). It is right above the IR port on the bottom left corner (if the front is facing down). The cube is 5/16" long, 4/16" wide, and 4/16" deep. It has no writing on it and the number above it on the motherboard is SW2G3. The cube rattles when the board is moved. Any help that can be given would be greatly appreciated...and no I am not going to send it in to Microsoft so they can charge me ridiculous amounts of money to fix something that they messed up on.
