How Do You Fix The American Political System

How can I reform the American political system?

1. One-term limit for any/all elected political offices + no more than two elected offices held in total. This means that political "careers" are either 4 years or 8 years in duration, outside of which they live & work in the real world and live with the laws/policies they created.2. Less power in the federal government + more power in the states & municipalities. Semi-independent cities & states compete with each other for the hearts & minds (& taxes) of productive citizens, thereby keeping them in check to discourage Nanny States. i.e., Instead of one centralized "ObamaCare" medical plan, each state makes their own decision about medical insurance. That lets us run 50 experiments, see which ones work better than others over time. Then each state can refine their plans based on what we've all learned from these actual, real-world experiments (instead of being shoe-horned into a single, untested, one-size-fits-all theory hatched in Washington, DC).3. The root cause of the unholy alliance between government & big business is campaign contributions (and other wink-wink favor-trading). One way to get rid of that is to abolish expensive campaigning. A candidate needs millions of dollars to run for office only if they are campaigning in a traditional way (buying television ads + traveling far & wide to engage in stump speeches, kissing babies, hand-shaking, etc.,). But if they were ALL constrained to do it in a cheap & modern way by putting allposition statementswhite papersspeeches (Vlogs)message boards (direct Q-n-A w/ voters)on a simple website, then it wouldn't cost more than a few tens of thousands of dollars to campaign (maybe a ~$50k cap), with the added benefit that we'd open ourselves up to more candidates of modest means, with no favors owed to contributors, and hopefully with better ideas about governing.

If you could fix three things about the American political system in order to increase its efficiency and decrease its corruption, what would they be?

Algorithmic redistricting with judicial review: Stop politicians from picking their voters. Allow voters to pick politicians.Pass the Balanced Budget Amendment, so that the Federal Budget cannot exceed the previous year’s tax revenue + prior year set-asides, without 3/4 majority of both houses of Congress and Presidential approval. With that approval, the Government can have deficit spending for a year, but can only amortize that deficit over 10 years or less. This gives the Government a way out in emergencies and in cases of war.Give the President the Line Item Veto on all bills while reducing the Executive Order’s power. The Line Item Veto would greatly reduce the horse-trading that goes into making bills work. Clarify that an Executive Order can only have the weight of clarifying an unclear portion of the previously passed law and is subject to Judicial review to determine if it exceeds that scope, would eliminate having the President make Executive Orders when they can’t get Congress to do anything. The power is supposed to reside primarily in Congress, according to our Constitution.Implement term limits: 10 years for the House of Representatives (5 terms), 12 years for the Senate (2 terms), and 18 for Supreme Court Justices (2 up for nomination every Presidential term). Put in large retirement payments to politicians and judges who have served 10 years or more, as long as they don’t engage in lobbying or paid political activities. Their post-job activities are terrible, as they spend their time trying to get the Government to do things that no one notices but add up to death by a thousand cuts.This would make politicians more accountable, have less job security, and higher turnover. It would also take a lot of power away from the Federal Government and give it to the States, where there is more accountability. And, it would stop the current process of borrowing from our kid’s kids to pay for spending today.(and, learn to count. But, I think we need 4, not 3, structural changes)

The problems about the American political system?

I have a question about the American political system. Why the United States had never happened in the history of coups or with the (except the eighteenth-century American war of independence)? In the United States military or senior officers, the rights of small? Why no official collusion in American history soldiers break through constitutional limit coup? Hope someone to answer me!!!!!!! Thank you very much!

What do you think of the American Political System?

wow what a question.
well here's how I would explain it, simple as possible: So a couple hundred years ago some english people got fed up with their stupid monarchs and their corruption. These englishmen sailed here to north america, freed themselves from England and became independent. Our founding fathers knew how immensely important this new country was, and put amazing work and thought into its foundation. They came up with the perfect plan to create and maintain a just society where man can live freely. This was the Constitution. our country was born a constitutional republic, with a democratic method of electing our leaders. The states prospered greatly, implementing free markets, competitive capitalism, and private ownership if property. This is what made The US the most wealthy of nations. Sadly, the US still had flaws to overcome, like slavery (abolished by Lincoln) and Racism (still eminent today, but we're getting better). we elected president after president, each with their own beliefs and ideals. Many of them brought prosperity, many of them brought corruption. Over time, the constitution was forgotten. People began to look to the government to solve all of their problems(poverty, hunger, healthcare, retirement, etc.), thus putting the government in a tough spot. Today the Federal Government has acquired far too much power, more than any of our founding fathers ever intended. The Fed is facing more problems than it could ever possibly solve, we're trillions of dollars in debt, and citizens still somehow feel they're entitled to free healthcare, welfare, and retirement. Things like this are corrupting our federal taxation system. this is just one of many problems. In the US's history, we have been at war 214 years and at peace for only 21. People can not freely marry the way they want. Corporations are being demonized despite their amazing contributions to society, science, and the market. Our media is giving voters all the wrong ideas and distorting the elections. Nobody really knows what's right or wrong anymore. Citizens are very hostile toward eachother because of their political beliefs. if I could change anything, I would repeal every last socialized government program not permissed by the constitution and make sure all US citizens have thorough knowledge of this country's history and its constitution so that we can all think rationally and prevent power from corrupting the people. Private OR Public.

How would you fix the American education system?

To fix education in the US you first need to fix American society's perspective on being educated,

The general attitude in America is that having a decent education instantly makes you some sort of "elitist". This sneering anti-intellectualism has become indicative of the general malaise affecting a vast proportion of the population. The mindset that it is better to be "just plain spoken" rather than have a good grounding of knowledge and ability is as tragic as it is vomit-inducing, and America will see the consequences of this sooner rather than later. In reality you can already see it happening if the way much of the American citizenry is led around unquestioningly by the nose in the current build-up to elections on both sides of the political aisle is anything to go by.

A fine example of this ridiculous attitude of what passes for the education of the young can be seen in the documentary "The Revisionaries", about the Texas State Board of Education, in which the teachers are desperate to teach their students facts, figures, to think for themselves and prepare them for higher education and the outside world, but are opposed at every turn by the morons on the TSBE who will not allow textbooks or exam questions that don't go along with their own narrow world view. It would be hilarious if it didn't reveal what is so wrong with America today. No longer the belief that "knowledge opens many doors" and is something to strive for, but rather that mediocrity and stupidity are the order of the day for fear of being labelled "anti-American".

How do you fix American politics? What can we, as individuals, do to improve the system's functionality?

There are no brand name products we can use to fix American politics. Partly because “American politics” has more resemblance to totalitarian politics than it does to American politics as outlined in the US Constitution and its rights amendments.The main deviation from the original plan is that we are no longer a democratic republic with adequate citizen participation and representation.To get results in anything, we have to first show up for the task. WE do not: (1) vote in enough numbers to truly represent an actual majority. WE do not:(2) show up at party conventions or even bother to write our elected representatives. Instead, generally, over 40% of us don’t vote at all. And the contesting candidates belong to parties that have no more than 30% each of public backing. Also WE do not: (3) donate enough money to candidates we want to see elected so the shortfall must come from wealthy individuals and groups (corporations) which do have enough money.Number 3 is also why we get “filtered” news, we don’t pay for news show productions just as we didn’t pay for newspapers, advertisers pay those costs. Journalism is “employed” by the wealthy advertisers (many of them also finance political campaigns out of the same self interest to get more wealth and power).WE are supposed to be the employers of both political office holders and news publishing workers. But we don’t begin to cover the cost that publishers must invest nor do we pay enough to support news productions and the staffs that work on them.We’re not even close to a beginning in this task. If you look at the total number of views for all the answers posted here and then look at the up votes for each one, you are going to have some idea of how few people are even interested in fixing American politics today.In conclusion: at this point it’s unwise to post any actual plans for changing American politics because both parties will eventually notice and will take effective steps to see that the “best” plan will be quashed.

If you could change one thing about the U.S. political system, what would it be?

Several possibilities…hard to choose. One of these:I would have Acceptance Voting be the method used for elections. “Vote for one OR MORE of the following candidates.” Bernie would have won in an 80% landslide in 2016 because he was near everybody’s second favorite choice and could have been on the ballot without being a “spoiler.” Political parties would have to do better than be the “second worst option” in order to win elections.Overturn Citizens United by constitutional amendment but I don’t have the legal acumen to know exactly how to word that.Statehood for Puerto Rico.Try voting done by a form of caucus; everybody is put in groups of 10 people, randomly selected from the entire voting pool. That group elects one person to go to the next level. Repeat for as many levels as necessary. I wonder if that would work closer to the ideal the Founding Fathers might have had in mind where the people choose people smart enough to make intelligent decisions.Well, it’s a magic wand, so—turn the Koch brothers and Rupert Murdoch and sons into civil rights advocates.Can I turn all Nazi Party and KKK members into black women?Universal (everyone gets the same ones each election), very simple civics questions directly on the anonymous ballot. You have to get 2 out of 3 right or your vote doesn’t count.All candidates for political office must pass a psychological test that they are not sociopaths. All candidates for political office must pass a computer programming course. (There are few things in the universe that quite so crisply and clearly force you to adapt your thinking to reality instead of the other way around, as staring at a computer in disbelief that your plan isn’t working, and being forced to admit you made a mistake, find it, and fix it.)I guess I would go with #1, and hope it isn’t changed instantly by legislators…but it would be, so that’s out. Better go with something simple and hard to revoke. 3. I pick 3.

Do you think the American political system is corrupt beyond repair?

Yes but this country needs to find some way to change it, but that would be almost impossible.
Also, other "broken" Fed Systems;
2. Immigration;
3. Justice Department;
4. Prison System;
