How Do You Know When Your Comming To The End Of A Sore Throat

How do you get rid of a sore throat?

Sore throats usually last between 1 to 3 days.  You can't get rid of the swollen red throat tissues permanently, but you can make it feel better now and then until it is gone.A lot of things that seem to make your throat feel better short term (e.g. hot chocolate, soup, tea, orange juice, popsicle, etc...) actually end up making the pain worse in the long run because they are irritating the tissues, you just can't tell while it is feeling better for a bit.For instance, a long time ago a doctor told me to gargle with water and a tiny bit of hydrogen peroxide in it, assuming it would kill the virus/bacteria and thus lead to a better feeling throat.  It does kill stuff, which probably makes the sore throat not last as long, but it doesn't help much with the pain. So, the #1 suggestion is usually gargling several times with water (slightly warmer than room temperature) with a tiny bit of salt in it (just like the dentist tells you to do for inflamed gums) and that is also supposed to sooth the throat tissues.  (Not sure how long this lasts pain wise, but you can do this as often as necessary.)The science behind why salt water is supposed to work:When a part of the body is hurt, chemicals are released to dilate the smallest blood vessels in that area. This widening of the vessels functions to increase blood flow which also allows fluid containing infection-fighting cells to leak into the hurt area (we know this as swelling).Salt water rinses reduce swelling through osmosis. As the salt water rinse bathes the swollen tissue there is a much higher concentration of salt than that contained within the tissue itself, it’s time for osmosis to do what it does best (restore balance).Osmosis functions to equalize the concentration of salt on both sides of the tissue cell membrane. Since salt molecules are too large to pass through the permeable membrane, it has no choice but to allow some of the excess fluid to leak out.  Less fluid inside the tissue means less pressure. Less pressure means less pain.Other usual things like anti-inflammatory meds (Advil, Aleve etc...) and vitamin C might help the sore throat not last as long, but they won't make it feel better immediately.  And of course the more water you drink and the more sleep you get the less you will suffer overall with the sore throat and the nose/chest problems that usually follow it.

Sore throat at the end of a cold?

I had a sore throat monday and tuesday and then a cold wednsday thursday and friday. Yesterday my nose was just a little runny and my voice still sounded congested. Today my throat is starting to hurt again, and my nose is just slightly sniffly. Is it the end of my cold or could I be getting another cold!? WHich i will be really mad if i get another cold, ive already had 4 colds this school year and next week is my bday

How do I know if it's strep throat before running to the doctor?

I woke up yesterday with a really bad sore throat. I thought that maybe I was just getting a cold, but I have no other cold symptoms. The back of my throat and tonsils are red and white. I have been running a slight fever all day- 99.7 degrees. I'm very sore and my head is pounding. I thought the symptoms seemed like strep throat, but I don't want to have to pay to go to the doctor for nothing.

Would it be wise to go get it checked out anyway?

Uti and sore throat connected?

You could have an STD that is not fully treated by the BACTRIM I would go in and Get a Gonorherra exam . It requires a stronger Antibiotic. although the test could come up negative.. Ask for a full course of care and or injection .. AND MAKE SURE YOUR PARTNER GETS IT TOO. something caused the burning it could be gonorherra .. look up your symtoms online. IT WONT GO AWAY TREAT FULLY AND PROPERLY AND SO SHOULD YOUR PARTNER.. someone gave it to him. or her.. And their other partner is probably infected TOO.

Is this strep throat? im freaking out!?

It sounds like allergies to me. Strep throat gives you a very sore throat. When you swallow it's like you're swallowing a sharp knife.

Allergies cause 'post nasal drip', which causes the back of your throat to swell up. If you look closely at the back of your throat, the cells are swollen and they look like cobblestones in a street, so the effect is sometimes called 'cobblestoning' (you probably can't see this yourself but have someone look in a good light and they might see it.)

When you have a 'cold' and it just doesn't go away, that's usually allergies. The first time this happened to me I was over 40 and I'd never had allergies before, and I thought the doctor was crazy. But it turned out that's what it was. It's very common in Spring time, by the way.
