How Do You Know When Your Eyes Are Getting Bad

Is playing in the dark bad for your eyes?

Well, playing your console in the dark, with your eyes focused on the screen, given that it’s a bright screen is actually better than having a not-very-bright screen. Putting a strain on your eyes, such as reading in the dark, can actually harm your eyes a lot more than video games in the dark can. Reading or sewing in the dark puts so much strain on your eyesight, you can actually go blind, and many people of old age did in the 1800’s.But, when you’re playing in a dark room, your eyes have to keep on adjusting to the rapid change of light. People think the light on the screen stays the same, but in a dark room if you look at the wall behind you, you can see screen colors and lighting change a heck of a lot. When the screen of your game keeps on changing (the light, I mean), it makes your eyes work really really hard, and it causes a lot of eyestrain. Eyestrain usually results in dry/tired eyes and sometimes causes minor headaches, but it unfortunately helps with developing, glaucoma.(Note, I said DEVELOPING… just because you play a few games in the dark for a few hours doesn’t mean that you will get a case of glaucoma :) A process of constantly, everyday, playing hours in the dark, it could develop into the disease. But hopefully at the rate your going it won’t affect you too badly. If you are playing hours each day in the dark, try to cut down a bit, or just play with the light on or during the day to help :P)But wait! There’s more! :D Eyestrain can be lessened while playing the games by lighting the area around the screen!! SO, that means if you turn the light on or play during the day, it can really help your eyes! :D :D :D The lighting also helps to improve visual comfort and you don’t feel as tired! So, playing the games in general can cause eye strain and can weaken your vision, but moderating your time on the console may help a lot. (Bye the way, blinking often to keep your eyes moist can help a lot :P)To answer you question directly though, playing games in the dark isn’t COMPLETELY okay, BUT, it is definitely not a huge problem and you could probably deal alright with the negative effects that they bring. :)So keep on enjoyin’ those good ol’ streaks and high scores, but just be wary of your use and how your using it :DHope this helped! Have fun :)

I can notice my eyesight going bad. Can I do anything make it better?

Your eyesight is getting "bad" because of two things (most likely): Close-up strain.  You're spending hours and hours staring at screens, your eyes focused up-close.  This causes your ciliary muscles to spasm, as close-up keeps them contracted tightly.  This causes what's often referred to as pseudo myopia in clinical science (see http://scholar.google.com , search for pseudo myopia or near induced transient myopia).Lens wear.  If you were diagnosed with myopia and are now wearing minus lenses (meant for distance use) for close-up, your eyesight continues to get worse.  This is in large part due to hyperopic defocus caused by the minus lens wear, in particular in close-up mode.  See http://scholar.google.com lens-induced myopia, for lots of clinical science on he topic. So that's how your eyes get worse.  Knowing this, is there anything you can do to make them better?  Short answer, reduce eye strain, and get rid of that axial elongation causing hyperopic defocus stimulus.  This will take some research, understanding biology, and better habits on your part.

How do I know if a stye is getting worse?

You'll know. Your eye will start to mucous up and it will feel itchy.Dip your finger in rubbing alcohol (not much), close your eye and quickly swipe the closed eye. This promotes eye tears. Plus cleanse your hands constantly before touching your face.Get on Google and look up home remedies.I used to get a stye at least 2xs a year. One got so bad the doctor had to poke me with a needle to drain it. Then the wye patch. Not fun

Is having -4.5 eyesight bad for a 17 year old? I'm afraid my eyesight will get progressively worse as I grow older now.

No, it’s not bad at all. It’s normal to need some correction, and -4.5 isn’t really considered “very poor vision.”I first needed correction when I was 8, and I would have to go back every nine months to get a new prescription after that. But when I was 12, I needed to get a new prescription every three months. My eyesight would decrease by one (I guess I’ll call it a unit?) unit in that time. My vision would go from -3.0 to -4.0 in that time.Yea, the optometrist told me I was at risk for all these different eye conditions, and told me I could lose my eyesight by 30. They closely monitored my eyesight for a while after that. They still do today.Eventually, when I was 13.5, my eyesight thankfully stopped worsening so quickly, and I was able to return to yearly eye exams. I haven’t needed a new prescription since then.I am now 15 years old, and I am considered to have “poor vision.” In my left eye, my eyesight is -7.0, and -6.5 in my right. I don’t have any issues with my eyes other than very blurry vision without correction. I can wear contacts, and my eyes work properly. My optometrist told me that my eyes would eventually slow down and would not worsen so quickly, and he was right.I think in your case, your eyes seem just fine. I don’t think that you’ll lose your eyesight, unless you develop an eye condition or unless there is an accident that causes you to lose your eyesight. You might need to update your prescription occasionally, but it will probably not change that much since you are pretty much an adult now. Also, the answer to the question, “What prescription is considered to be legally blind?”I found an article by New Health Advisor that might be very helpful to you.New Health Advisor for Daily Health Care.I don’t really know a lot of scientific things about the eye, but from my experiences, I think your eyes will be just fine in the future.

Is it bad if bleach splashes into your eye?

Dear god it hurts. I dropped a container with a bleach mixture which caused the solution to hit my face and fortunately my safety glasses absorbed most of the splash. However a few drops got into my eyes and nose. Thanks to my training, I knew to immediately to start using the eyewash. The recommendation is to wash for 30-60 minutes because you really want to remove any residue. There are a lot of stories of people who only wash for 5 minutes and then when they go to sleep, that small drop gets shifted and causes irritation. The hard thing about the eyewash is that the water is frequently cold so you're essentially giving the equivalent of a brain freeze to your eyeballs. As for the damage? You can feel irritation almost right away, good thing that I wasn't wearing contacts that day otherwise that would have really hurt. Within a minute I started having a nosebleed. It's not something I would recommend so follow your safety procedures and using the right safety controls.

Is it bad to get hand sanitizer in your eye!?!?!?

What we in the medical profession know as conjunctivitis. a bacterial infection that is very contagious, but rather due to harsh chemicals in you eye from the hand sanitizer.
Most O/C hand sanitizer's are made of isopropyl alcohol. & the reason it evaporates so quickly form you hand is probably the same reason it is hurting your eye so badly is because the alcohol has dried up the fluid your eye uses as lubricant.
whenever you get a chemical in you eye you should flush continuously for 10-15 min... then seek medical attention right away.
go to an ER

Is -6.00 a bad eye sight prescription?

Hi,It is a very common question, and when people examine their eyesight, they are unable to make sense of their prescription. Here I provide you with a simple explanation to ensure that you will not face this problem of uncertainty anymore.First, you need to identify whether it is a right eye or a left eye. Left eye is under the heading “OS” (Latin for oculus sinister), and the right one is under “OD” (Latin for oculus dextrus). Also, sometimes you may see OU which is referred to both eyes.A general rule of thumb says, numbers closer to zero means better the vision where positive numbers indicate farsighted (hyperopia) and negative numbers refer to nearsighted (myopia). Each prescription should include three numbers, Spherical (S), Cylindrical (C) and Axis. Assume a ball, S means how sphere this ball is, and further away from spherical shape indicates an eyesight problem which includes a number (0-20+) that has a unit of Diopter (D). If this ball has lost its spherical shape and also slightly distorted (astigmatism) then it is indicated with C. Finally Axis is showing at which meridian the distortion occurred. 0 degree means horizontal, 90 degree means vertical and it can go up to 180. So these number are presented in the format ±S ±C x Axis.So based on above, -6 refers to the Spherical parameter and it indicates nearsightedness of -6 diopter where above 15 is significant. Your vision can easily be corrected with a pair of glasses or contact lenses. And if your eyesight stays stable for two years, you can do a refractive surgery to achieve near perfect vision. But if it is significantly progressing, you may have an eye disease like keratoconus or glaucoma.Best wishes,Ashkan Eliasy
