How can you cook a teriyaki chicken recipe?

There are different authentic recipes. The easiest to make at home is teriniku no nabe-teriyaki, or pan-fried chicken teriyaki (the same method can be used for other proteins..tofu to make it vegan, salmon, pork etc). In this version, instead of using premade teriyaki sauce, it's made in a small quantity directly in the pan.You lighlty coat chicken pieces (it's much juicier with dark meat) with starch, and either corn or potato. Shake off excess. You cook in a little oil in a thick pan, until well done. You remove the chicken pieces and let them drain well on paper towel. Meanwhile you clean the pan. You heat it again (high heat), put some sugar that you make caramelize a little bit, add sake and mirin and soy sauce. For a third of a cup of soy sauce, maybe 2 tbsp sugar, one each of mirin and sake. If you prefer less salty teriyaki, you can mix soy sauce and water (this is mostly for when you don't eat it with white rice).Lower the heat as soon as it starts bubbling (it's easy to burn), throw back in the pan the cooked chicken, coat it well with the sauce and let it reheat a bit. Serve immediately, with sliced scallions and sesame sseds, or shiso leaves (or even basil or cilantro, which aren't Japanese, but…). The sauce/glaze can eventually be flavoured, for e.g. by adding at the same time as the soy sauce chopped ginger (or squeezed juice), or lemon juice or rind, or less traditional flavours like garlic, orange etc.1/3 cup sauce is enough to coat pieces from 2 thighs approx. It's a dish that's meant to be eaten with plain white rice as "foil", and one or two side dishes of vegetables of your choice. The picture is from the last time I made it.

What does chicken teriyaki taste like?

it tastes different to everyone, to me its sweet with a little bit of tang to it...why don't you just try it.....it won't kill you.

Can I thicken teriyaki sauce with flour?

NO, and don't add cornstarch either. Adding flour would make it pasty and gluey tasting and in texture.

Add about twice as much terriyaki as it calls for to a sauce pan and reduce it over a low-medium low heat. That is the Best way.

Or make your own starting with soy sauce, then add brown sugar, sesame oil, a dash of rice wine vinegar and a bit of ginger if you wish. Then reduce it. That will give you an even better terriyaki sauce that any store bought glaze.

What do you get on your Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki sub from Subway?
