If you make someone a close friend (there should be a yellow star next to a button that says "friends" on they timeline) then you receive notifications whenever they do something like updating their status. Check if that's what's happening with yours - find that yellow star that i'm talking about on the top part of their timeline to the right. "close friends" should be checked, just click on that to un-check it. Then instead of a star there should be just a green V and you won't receive notifications anymore.

There isn't way you can stop their messages sadly.You can mute the conversation, this won't stop them from messaging you but it will stop you getting notification that they messaged you. There's an option called 'Block Messages', this will stop them from messaging you. But when they do message you they will be told you blocked their messages.The block is only to messages: they can still write on your wall, like your post and pictures, stalk your facebook.

I have an iphone 5c. The main data switch is turned on, but for apps that use a huge amount of data like snapchat, facebook, and instagram, I have data switched off. Yet I still receive notifications for these apps? Ill get the facebook notification on my lockscreen, and then go to the app, and it says it can't load. I want to know how this is possible and how I can make it stop. I don't want to completely shut off push notifications, because sometimes I do want those apps to be on data, but most of the time I don't. Why aren't they completely disconnecting when I have data turned off for them?
