A girl I talked to a few times lately has her phone out alot texting or checking it for calls when I'm around. She doesn't talk on it. Its not like she whips it out all of a sudden, but she always seem to take it out when I'm close by. Maybe she's on it a lot in general lately, though in the past she wasn' at all. Why do girls do this? Is she trying to avoid me or is she just really busy?

She is, however, terrified of talking to you and a little lacking in confidence when she sees you around. A mobile phone is the perfect excuse to take the edge off your nerves. When I saw a girl coming I liked I used to be like... "**** - better look like I'm doing something cool" and all I ever had was my mobile so it automatically and subconciously went to my head and I had to pretend I was listening to voicemail. I guess I thought it made me look like I was popular or that I was busy arranging something cool. Girls like guys who are popular and do cool stuff. In hindsight, I should have just talked to them. What you need to do is make the first move - she is too scared. Just say something along the lines of "hi, lets do something, I want to get to know you better". She'll know what you're after and it means something gets arranged without all the shifty scared behaviour. Remember - fear is temporary. Regrets are forever.

It's iffy. I usually fake text/call when I want to avoid someone. However, if you think there is something there and she gets jealous, maybe it's a hint she's giving you to ask her for her number? Or maybe she thinks you're not interested (or gets reallllly nervous around you) and therefore is trying to get over you. In an attempt to move on, she's playing on her phone so she doesn't have to engage in conversation.
