How Does Bleach React With Fire Is It Dangerous

How does bleach react with fire? Is it dangerous?

So... I feel a bit stupid right now. I was cleaning the kitchen and sprayed bleach onto the stove to clean it. Then it occurred to me, will something dangerous happen if I turn on the stove? It's the kind that has open flame. I'd really rather not cause a bleach-fire explosion.

Does Clorox Bleach cause house fires?

No. Bleach can melt certain fibers, plastics and materials, but it isn't due to a spark..it's because the bleach is a powerful chemical.

If bleach is mixed with ammonia or any kind of toilet cleaner, hard water cleaner, or other detergent like surface cleaner it can cause a chemical reaction that will produce a gas. This gas will bother human and animals mucus membranes, hinder breathing, irritate eyes, nose, mouth, throat..and can be very harmful. If you mix chemicals and it produces what looks like little billows of smoke it isn't smoke. It's gas. This will not catch fire but it will cause people and pets to cough, have pain and red eyes..trouble breathing, etc. If you accidentally mix chemicals then phone poison control right away.

Poison Control is there 24/7 and can help with anything involving cleaning with chemicals like bleach, if you have created a bad mix of chemicals..what to do about it, etc. If in doubt, phone Poison Control.

What chemical reaction is there when you mix pee and bleach?

As you know pee aka urine has ammonia!!!!!When ammonia and bleach are mixed together, the bleach breaks down into hydrochloric acid. The hydrochloric acid then reacts with the ammonia to produce chloramine vapours. These vapours are extremely toxic and can be fatal if inhaled. On top of the deadly vapours, there is also the possibility that the mixture could boil and spray incredibly hot and toxic liquid. The liquid sprayed is liquid hydrazine and it can be created when the concentration of ammonia is very high. This combination is so nasty and deadly that this chlorine gas was used as a chemical weapon during World War 1 & 2 by Germany. And sometimes it is mistaken that pee plus bleach will create mustard gas but that is wrong.

My husband mixed ammonia and bleach while cleaning the bathroom. Now he has breathing difficulties. Could it be his asthma? Should I call 911?

When your husband mixed ammonia and bleach, he made hydrochloric acid. The fumes from hydrochloric acid will kill your husband if breathed in for an extended period of time. I assume when he started feeling badly and had breathing difficulties, he left the bathroom. This is the first step for a small exposure. Fresh air. If he continues to have difficulty breathing, he needs to be seen in the Emergency Dept. If his breathing improves, he'll be fine most likely. However, your bathroom still contains noxious fumes. Open your doors and windows to the rest of the house. Cover your mouth and nose and go into the bathroom. Open the window and flush the acid down the toilet. Let that room air out. If you are unable or too afraid, call 911. The Fire Department has air packs and exhaust fans. Also, DON’T DO THAT ANYMORE!

What could happen if you mix Liquid Fire Drain Cleaner and Bleach?

My Husband's drain was clogged at work. The owner told them to mix Liquid Fire Drain Cleaner and Bleach and dump it down the drain and a white fog started coming out of the drain and producing a burning type smell. Now he is caughing alot and alot of his coworkers also feel sick. Not to mention that alot of other chemicals such as floor cleaner get dumped down this drain. What should he do about this? What reactions could occur? Should he go to the hospital? If something is wrong he could then charge the bill toward the workplace?

Is it safe to mix bleach and hydrogen peroxide?

H2O2 and sodium hypochlorite produces salt water, oxygen gas and some heat. It's safe in the sense that it doesn't produce toxic chemicals, but don't mix them in a sealed bottle, or mix a lot at once (only mix a few tablespoons or less) or use high concentrations. Oxygen is what makes things burn, and heat is produced by the reaction (although not enough heat to be dangerous in household concentrations). So your cigarette might suddenly catch fire.** Also, sodium hypochlorite (bleach) is not safe to handle or inhale. So make sure that you start with a lot of H2O2, and add the bleach to the H202, not the other way around!

Clorox Bleach and Drano Max? Is it safe?

No. No chemical should be used together. If you are trying to unstop a drain and tried pouring Chlorox down the drain and it is setting there then run cold water and try to plunge it. You may need a new J-bend for your sink. Never pour Drano or drain clearing chemicals down the toilet...not what that's meant for and won't undo a toilet that's clogged,
