I poured hot water into a plastic bottle...?

Plastic contains dioxins. and when heated like leaving a water bottle in a hot car releases this poison. and though it really doesn't hurt you unless you do it a lot, has been thought to give you cancer. If it were me I throw the bottle away. And start over. If the water taste different probable released chemical into your water. Plastic when melted turns to a gas. Why did the water in a plastic bottle turn yellow?

At school was helping out the teachers in the class room. The teacher ask me to water her plants cause she didn't have time she walked to the window and gave me a plastic bottle of yellow water I asked what's that she said its just water I left by window in the sun a few days ago. I told her ok I'll get fresh water but she told me no its ok to use this water. I was like but it's yellow. She said its ok. So I watered the plants and to our surprise the next morning her plants were dead. So how did this happen and what happen to the water Curious

What are plastic bottles made of?

Plastic bottles can be made of any, well, plastic. Rigid bottles can be made of polystyrene or ABS. Chemical resistant bottles can be made of PTFE, better known as Teflon. Many are made of  polyethylene or terephthalate. The plastic used depends on the service planned for the container. Do you need chemical resistance? Do you need a rigid container, or a flexible one? Is it a one time use, or multiple time use? Does it have to have light resistance, or not transmit light? Is cost a factor? The list goes on and on and the answers will determine which plastic you choose.

Why does plastic shrink when you burn it?

Do you know that plastic is made from oil?

If plastics are to be avoided, then why are we getting MILK still packed in plastic packets?

At least in India, most of the milk vendors sell lose milk stored in stainless steel cans. Most of the people buying that, take it in a stainless steel container. Some vendors deliver to your home and they carry it a stainless steel containers. So for milk you can avoid plastic bags. Not long ago, we were getting milk in glass bottles. Glass bottles are heavy, breakable, if you don’t want to go to the shop, then somebody whom you appoint, has to come to you to collect empty bottles, the vendor had clean them thoroughly and reuse them. To dispose off broken glass was a real problem. People used to do that shamelessly. Now people find it inconvenient. We have turned into very easy going people but we have to change now and stop plastic totally.

Why does a plastic bottle containing gasoline get deformed after a few days?

Gasoline is a solvent, or contains solvents. Have to use the correct container.

Why are there spaces in the threads of plastic soda bottle caps?

It's an artifact of the manufacturing process which allows easy ejection of the cap after molding. The key terms are "collapsible core" and "interrupted thread."The cap mold has to collapse into a smaller space after forming the cap in order to allow the cap to be ejected.  The gaps in the threading (interrupted thread) appear when the mold is expanded since that space is needed when the mold is collapsed.  If continuous threading were used, the part would have to be unscrewed from the mold instead of ejected, costing precious energy and time. This video shows it clearly.Technical reference:  Plastics Engineering Handbook Of The Society Of The Plastics Industry
