Can the government ever run out of money?
It depends upon which government you're talking about. The governments of Spain, France, California, Greece, Florida and Italy can all run out of money. The governments of Sweden, the US, Australia, Brazil, the UK and Canada cannot. Most provincial, state or local governments can run out of money. Most national governments cannot. It all depends upon the laws and treaties which apply to the government concerned. In essence any government that is legally allowed to create its own money cannot run out.
What role does the current king of Spain play in government?
The role of the King of Spain is purely symbolic, with no executive power at all (except for the decisions related to the Casa de Su Majestad el Rey de España (Royal House)).It is defined in the Spanish Constitution (Guillermo López López is an expert on this matter, so he can provide more details):Section 56 1. The King is the Head of State, the symbol of its unity and permanence. He arbitrates and moderates the regular functioning of the institutions, assumes the highest representation of the Spanish State in international relations, especially with the nations of its historical community, and exercises the functions expressly conferred on him by the Constitution and the laws.Section 62 includes a more detailed list of functions, always subject to a member of the Government or the president of the Congress:a) To sanction and promulgate the laws. b) To summon and dissolve the Cortes Generales and to call for elections under the terms provided for in the Constitution. c) To call for a referendum in the cases provided for in the Constitution. d) To propose a candidate for President of the Government and, as the case may be, appoint him or her or remove him or her from office, as provided in the Constitution.e) To appoint and dismiss members of the Government on the President of the Government’s proposal. f) To issue the decrees approved in the Council of Ministers, to confer civil and military positions and award honours and distinctions in conformity with the law. g) To be informed of the affairs of State and, for this purpose, to preside over the meetings of the Council of Ministers whenever he sees fit, at the President of the Government’s request.h) To exercise supreme command of the Armed Forces. i) To exercise the right of clemency in accordance with the law, which may not authorize general pardons. j) To exercise the High Patronage of the Royal Academies. You can find the full text of the Spanish Constitution here:http://www.congreso.es/portal/pa... It is the reference to the "unity and permanence" what makes the King not a popular figure for the separatists El discurso del Rey dolió a los independentistas Hope it helps. Thanks for A2A.
How much money does a doctor make in Spain?
A public healthcare system family doctor can make around 50k/year before taxes. A specialist, i.e. a surgeon, can make north of 100k, but it depends on lots of factors. That is probably peanuts in the US, but in Spain, 100k is a really good salary. But you must keep in mind that becoming a doctor in Spain is a though endeavor, six years to obtain the college degree plus other four years to obtain the “MIR”.Spain – Doctors
Why are Government Bond Interest rates so low?
the return is that low because the risk is that low. investing in gold or stocks will give you more risk. thus more reward. 5% is actually quite high for a government bond. government bonds are usually near the 3-3.5% The US and spain government bonds pay more because their financial position has worsened a lot since 2007. on a sidenote that 5% is actually substantial since the interbank loan rates are near 0.1-0.3% at this time. there is only a 1% difference between market rate and interbank rates in a normal economic setting. this is a clear indicator that the central banks still think the economy needs stimulating.
How did Spain spend the money they earned when they sold their colonies to the US and Germany in the late 1890s?
I would image it went to pay their enormous national debt.I remember as a student reading, at one point in the 1800’s the Spanish Royal Family didn’t even have enough money to pay for coal to heat the palace in the winter
Moving to Spain with No job No Money?
What country do you come from, it would help if you mentioned it as " here" is meaningless. If you are a EU citizen you have the right to live and work in Spain, though I don't know where you expect to find work. The unmployment rate for your age group is over 50% and any job vacancies will be offered to unemployed Spaniards, not to an unskilled foreigner who can't speak the language. And living on the streets will be bad, very bad. The local homeless people will not accept you, you will have no food, and no shelter and you'll certainly need that in winter and bad weather. Prostitution is the only way to make money! And, if you are not from the EU, you can only stay in Spain for 90 days as a tourist. Overstay your visa and you'll be an illegal alien with no rights. You will not get any kind of work simply because employers will not risk takng on an illegal when there are so many Spaniards and other EU citizens willing to work, legally, for low wages. You will be hiding from the authorities because, when you are found, you will be immedately deported and a stamp put into your passport banning you from the Schengen Zone for several years. This stamp will also mean that most countries will deny you entry because you are a potential visa overstayer. And you will be expected to repay the cost of deportation. Yep - it's a great life sleeping on the cold streets of a foreign country where no one cares what happens to you.
How did wars between Spain, France and England lead to their later domination of the world?
Spain, France, and England were often at war with each other. How did this lead to their later domination of the world? This was between the time periods 1250 CE and 1700 CE.
Historically, why is Spain's economy so bad? Why does Spain stay so far behind the rest of Europe? How do Germany and France get destroyed in two World Wars and still end up so far ahead of Spain?
Alejandro provided a great answer. Also, your examples are wrong. Germany and France were flooded with American money to re-construct after WWII - partially because the main goal was to keep them prosperous so that communist vote would remain a very tiny minority.Spain didn’t have that. It self-destroyed in a civil war, then decades of isolationism followed. And remember before the civil was it wasn’t doing great either. Basically the 200 years prior to the current Spanish democracy were terrible for Spain’s economy and mindset. It lost colonies while retaining an old-fashioned mindset in its elites that despised actual work and rather seeked to remain big landowners or be paid by the Crown as the peak of a noble family’s achievements. All things considered, the progress 1975–2017 has been awesome.
