How Does The South African School Curriculum Compare To The Australian School Curriculum

Is Mandarin compulsory in South African schools?

No.There are not enough Mandarin speakers in this country to make it viable beyond the international and designated expat schools. The language is offered at tertiary level but only at the more prestigious universities and smaller schools geared towards foreign language training.Furthermore, most Chinese expats are proficient in English and speak a regional Chinese dialect natively instead of Mandarin with most Chinese South Africans speaking English and Afrikaans as native languages with little-to-no command over any Chinese *language/dialect.So this means that Mandarin is not compulsory anywhere apart from a few schools and institutions.*Note that while most people are comfortable with using the term “dialect” when dealing with variations within the Chinese language, the differences are vast enough to qualify as separate languages.

Do afterschool child care programs drug test?

They would right? because you aree dealing with children and they want to know that you aren't all drugged correct? If so would having an MMJ license dismiss the results of the drug test or would you still not be able to get the job?

What are some differences between German Schools and Australian Schools?

Australian teacher currently in Germany here. German schools have multiple pathways after Year 10. Only top performing students get entry into a Gymnasium for Year 11 and 12 for future University entry. Trade education is highly valued far more than in Australia.German schools have a short day and students are expected to do a lot of independent work at home. German schools have no practical science work and teach few critical thinking skills.

Why do US Schools not teach African history?

Aside from Egypt and a few spattered civilizations in African history, there's not a lot to teach about African history in the perspective of world history. Europe went through huge technological and cultural revolutions, the middle east saw the invention of Islam and its effect, and Asia has a rich history of cultural contributions as well as literally writing the book on war. In my high school history class, we didn't discuss much African history for the same reason we didn't discuss much Thai or Vietmanese history; it's not a huge impact on global history. When you only have half a year to discuss world history, some things have to be glossed over.

Also, these are US schools. We spend most of our time teaching our own history, just as they do in every other country. Japanese school students can give you chronologies of Japanese emperors dating back to the first century, English students can give you cultural and economic reasons for the Hundred Years War, and so forth.

Studying Abroad in Australia or Hong Kong

Can anybody tell me a few tips on studying abroad e.g. things I will need to find out etc.

I am a South African student. Does the curriculum I do influences if I can go abroad or not?

I really want to go to Australia or Hong Kong for my studies so if there are any South Africans who went the same path, can you please give me a few pointers?

THANKS!

How do you compare the quality of tertiary education in Ghana with the US? What is missing?

Tertiary education in Ghana is inferior because1. Endemic examination malpractice. Students don't study because they believe they can buy the questions and their corresponding answers before examinations.2. Discrimination in the admission of students. A large proportion of students aren't admitted based on merit.3. Obsolete laboratory equipment. Obsolete teaching tools.4. Lack of capacity building amongst the faculties. Many lecturers aren't as good as those in the most intelligent universities on earth.5. Internal university politics. The lecturers are divided into feuding factions; many don't get along with vice-chancellors.6. Obsolete curriculum not relevant to the needs of industry today.7. Large student faculty ratio. Some class sizes are so large that teaching becomes ineffective.8. Mentorship is non-existent. In fact few lecturers know the location of the best graduating students. Communication between the lecturers and graduates of the university is non-existent. Lecturers don't make any effort to obtain feedback regarding the quality and strength of their tuition methods.9. Lecturer student sexual relations undermine the interpersonal relationship between students and lecturers needed to foster effective learning.10. Failure of lecturers to rusticate student rapists. Some years ago, at the school of medical sciences KNUST - KATH hostel for example, a male medical student brutally raped another female students. He went scot free. The lecturers failed to rusticate him. The victim was rather threatened.11. Lack of an effective post-graduate program. With the exception of a few cases the university prefers to send students outside the country to study for their masters and doctoral degrees. An indication that the university lacks what it takes to run those programs.12. There are reports of snakes entering the abdominal cavities of some students. These scare potentially excellent students from applying to the university.13. The university has been insulated from the directors of education at the Ministry of Education because it is autonomous. They don't receive the latest information from the Curriculum Research Division which has started publishing manuals for teachers and school principals.14. The university of science and technology receives one of the lowest citations. An indication that university lecturers and students aren't conducting significant research.
