How Fast Can They Schedule A Tonsillectomy

How fast can they schedule a tonsillectomy?

that would completely depend on things we don't know like how many surgeries does the ENT have scheduled already and when an operating room is available at the surgery center/hospital.

my guess would be that you are not gonna see the ENT on friday and have surgery next week.
in order to have surgery that is not immediately medically necessary you need a pre op physical at your dr's office to show that you are in good health and you also need to have blood work done.
not to mention that you are not to smoke or use advil for 3 weeks prior to surgery and 3 weeks after surgery as they could thin your blood and you could bleed to death during recovery.
even if you did have surgery next week you would still have to miss some school cuz you are not even supposed to leave your house until day 10 post op to go see the ENT for a post op check up.

if you knew that you were wanting a tonsillectomy with enough time to recover by the 13th then you should have made the appointment much sooner than you did.

all i can give you is how long i waited for the tonsillectomy.
i went to the ENT in mid july and at that appointment i scheduled the tonsillectomy surgery for the beginning of september.

Tonsillectomy for a 17 year old?

typically no matter what the age it will take about 10 days for you to feel back to normal.
(its just when you are a very young child it tends to hurt less).

don't worry about the scabs. they usually fall off on about day 8-9.
you'll know when they are ready to come off cuz you get this urge to cough and you just can't stop coughing and then they come off little by little and you spit them out.

as long as you follo the post-op instructions you should heal just fine.

Do you get taller after a tonsillectomy?

I am getting my tonsills out soon as I have kept getting strep throat after 4 courses of antibiotics in the last four months.... I am a teen and I was wondering would it be likey/possible to have a growth spurt after the operation as my organism won't be focusing on killing bacteria???? When my younger sister got hers out she grew 3cm in a month.... Thanks in advance!!! :) also any ideas on food to eat after he op??? :)

How to heal fast from getting a Tonsillectomy and Septal Surgery?

Feb 4th, 2011 I went in for surgery for take out my tonsils and get my cartilage in my nose straightened to breath better. I was doing ok until Feb 11,2011 I started bleeding a lot in my mouth and lost a lot of blood and was rushed to the ER for another surgery to fix inside. Basically what happened was I coughed and must of ripped out a scab in my throat and it wouldn't stop bleeding. Its been a week since my second surgery my nose is almost healed but still a little painful. My throat still hurts from 1-10 I say about 7. I feel like my pain medicine is not working anymore. I can tolerate the pain since its not that bad but I just want to heal fast. What can I eat or drink to help the healing process? I been sucking on lozenges Chloroseptic which has been working but I been going through boxes like there is no tomorrow. What else can I do to help the healing process faster? I been drinking a lot of water, soups, just basically liquid diet. I was told no diary products or sugars.

When can you eat regular foods after a tonsillectomy?

well do you have a post op check up scheduled? cuz typically they are scheduled for about 10 days after the surgery and thats when the dr tells you that you are good to eat pretty much normal foods. if you don't have one scheduled then i would stick to the bland diet for the rest of today and call the dr asap in the morning and ask them when you can eat normal foods again. if you DO have a check up scheduled then you should wait until then to ask about real food.

TYPICALLY though you can eat most real foods as of 10 days post op. for example the instant i left the dr's office i headed straight to mcdonalds and got a cheese burger and fries and a coke. the things you should avoid still are using straws (using a straw can cause dry sockets and infection)and easting things likepotatoe chips, pop corn, and pretzels cuz they are rough. you should be able to use straws and eat those things about 21 days post op.

How well does a tonsillectomy cure sleep apnea?

Tonsillectomies alone do not 'cure' sleep apnea. Surgical remedies for sleep apnea usually are for those patients that do not respond well to other treatments, usually surgery is a last resort.

The correct term for the surgery is called a Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty, it removes parts or all of the uvula, soft palate, tonsils, adenoids, and pharynx. Its success rate is about 50%. Basically its a coin flip.

The tonsillectomy could work, only if its enlarged. Same goes with the other parts that I listed above. The enlarged tissue(s) tend to obstruct your airway when you sleep, especially when you lie on your back.

I would recommend getting a second opinion and see if your doctor would recommend a sleep study performed on you. Also check with your insurance if it is covered.

Usually, sleep apnea can be resolved with diet and treatment using a CPAP machine (Continous Positive Airway Pressure). It can significantly improve your sleep.

Good luck and have a good night's sleep!

Tonsillectomy and Tongue piercing?

NO you cannot leave the piercing in and NO you cannot use a retainer. they put a clamp on your tongue to keep it out of the way so they don't accidentally cut it.
you can try to put it back in after the surgery BUT your tongue is soooooooooo swollen for about 4-5 days so you probably won't be able to stand to put it back in.

i suggest you decide which is more important. a tongue ring or getting your tonsils out.

I just had a tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy this morning. What can I expect in the following days?

hey i'm 18 and got mine out a few months ago. for the first few days i stuck to popsicles, try to avoid ice cream and dairy based products because i found that it leaves a coating of mucous on your throat and trust me trying to clear your throat after having your tonsils taken out is VERY painful. plus by eating popsicles you're also staying hydrated which is very important if you want to heal fast.

on day 3 or 4 i moved on to raman noodles which were pretty easy to eat, and i stuck with that for the next few days. a week later i was eating almost everything again except for really crunchy things like chips.

they told me avoid hot stuff...but i had tea and ate hot mashed potatoes and didn't experience any bleeding or anything....

just make sure you stay on your pain med schedule (even in the middle of the night). waking up without the meds in your system will be so incredibly painful so stay on top of it! also, on day 2 or 3 you may feel like your getting better and that you can lay off on pain meds...but again stick with the schedule b/c for me the pain kicked up like 7 levels randomly on day 4. so again, stick with the schedule and you'll be fine!

GOOD LUCK!
