How Hard Would It Be To Get Into Uab Med School If I Attended Auburn University

Is the University of South Alabama a good school?

They have a good Pre-med program and Honors program (which comes with a full-ride), I attended both. We have a nursing school, Physicians’ Assistant Program, Pharmacy school satellite school through Auburn, Medical school, Environmental Toxicology Master's, PsychD and Masters degrees in Psychology. We have great Nursing, Biology, History, Allied Health, Business, Engineering, Chemistry, and I loved our Philosophy program, my minor was Philosophy, but I was a class shy of a minor in Chem and in Physics too. There are a lot of housing opportunities available close to campus so you don't have to live in the dorms after the first semester. Some even let you use financial aid. They recently sold the bookstore to Barnes and Noble so textbooks will hopefully be more reasonable. Parking has historically been a problem, but they have a tram system that seems to work. Still try to schedule your classes within walking distance or give yourself time to get there.I would definitely recommend South for undergrad, Pre-med, Pre-Pharm, Pre-Law and even some of the medical graduate schools.I am going back on January for a second Bachelor's in nursing so I can start pursuing the Doctor of Nurse Practitioner they offer as an online degree.

What is the best school in Alabama?

I’m assuming you mean higher education or tertiary education and determining what is best depends on the criteria you need met. When I was deciding for college I only looked at public universities because of cost.UAT - University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa doesn’t really boast academics. If you’re not from AL, then you know this school for football - RollTide and something about an elephant. UAT does have what I’ve been told is a great law school. This school is great for National Panhellenic Greek social life also. *Has a reputation of being racist.UAB - University of Alabama at Birmingham is probably the best medical school in Alabama. The school also boasts having a diverse campus, but you’ll have to be the judge of that. UAB is also in the middle of Birmingham, AL, the most populated and urban city in AL. Traffic is horrible, no parking. Sirens are always somewhere because of the hospitals.Auburn - Auburn is also a football school - WarEagle and there’s another phrase they have too. It’s a great school for Veterinary medicine and agricultural studies. Auburn is legitimately in the middle of nowhere, Auburn’s campus is the city.Troy - Troy is a bit underrated as whole. They have an excellent teaching/education program. Their campus isn’t that large and the social scene is kind of dull, but they do give a lot of attention to athletics so that might provide some entertainment.USA/ South - University of Southern Alabama is in Mobile, Al. It’s a growing school with an excellent computer science program. They also have a medical and nursing school. They also have a a sports focused school, but nowhere near UAT, Auburn, or Troy. Mobile as a city isn’t that great, but you’re never far from the beach.UAH - University of Alabama at Huntsville - has excellent engineering programs, but is also somewhat in the middle of nowhere. There’s not much said about this school. These are the largest public universities in AL and all of this based off of when I was looking to apply to school and what my friends who attend said school have told me. I attend UAB, I chose this school because it is the only one in the state to offer my field of study and I managed to go here debt free.Good luck and thanks for A2A

Is there any truth to the Alabama stereotypes?

We moved here from Chicago five years ago. When I flew down for my interview, my wife practically had to be forced onto the plane at gunpoint. Now I wouldn't be able to get her to leave.

Dispense with all the cliches. Birmingham is a great city with lots of entertainment (an astonishingly good music scene, if that's your deal), amazingly good restaurants, and a generally fun atmosphere. Plus, if you go out of your way to make friends (which is what you should do in any move, but in the South its particularly important), you'll have a great stay here.

The race thing just doesn't seem to be much of an issue in Birmingham, at least no more than any other major city. In fact, I see far less overt racism here than I witnessed in Chicago.

One caution. This is a football-mad place, as opposed to you hockey-mad Canadians. It isn't a bad thing. It's just part of the culture here. From late August through early January, you wouldn't believe how much of the conversation and the social life revolves around college football. We fought it at first, but then a very good friend just advised us to pick a team and go with the flow. It's amazing how many parties, games, and tailgates we have been invited to ever since (By the way, pick Auburn over Alabama. There are real cultural differences. Auburn seems to represent the new south, while Alabama seems to represent the old, dying redneck culture).

So good luck. For a place to live, pick the Southside area around Highland Avenue. It's really a great place to live with lots of diversity and fun.
