How Have Computers And The Internet Changed Society

How has the computer and access to the internet changed society?

just like anything else, there are good and bad points to it.

good: you can find information on anything and communicate with people all over the world. and you can find porn with out having to go to a sleazy porn shop! lol

bad: seams alot of people get addicted to things on line and just sit at there computer getting fat. Parents that don't understand the tec leave there children open to a new way for pedophiles and freaks to contact there kids. Many children instead of doing there home work just look up the answer then copy and past with out learning a thing.

the Internet is a tool, how its used determines if it is good or bad.

How has the Internet changed society?

Internet have made the world knitted together to form a small cottage. It can be argue that the internet word is a modernize simple society where information is easily spread and accessible to every body in a community . But it has promoted some sort of fraud that are devoid of the communal society: easily access to erotic materials , a network of bad peole etc.

What are some ways the internet has changed society for the worse?

The Internet has desensitized many people.  No one cares about anyone.  People are quick to judge.  When you're miserable and you reach out for help on Facebook or something, no one holds out a helping hand.  People desperately looking for help don't really have a place to turn, as everyone is "too busy" with their own lives. It's a world where the center of attention is focused strictly on me, myself and I.  Gratitude is gone.  Thankfulness is lost.  People are quick to judge.  They don't listen to all the sides of the story and figure out a conclusion on their own.Journalists don't research the stories they post.  They just fabricate what they want, and then other journalists just source each other, without contacting the actual person who they're writing about.  Look at what happened with Sean Parker in regards to his wedding. Weddings Used To Be Sacred And Other Lessons About Internet Journalism | TechCrunchThe victims that are placed as the center of attention to these attacks suffer from defamation, libel, and bullying.  They can even be portrayed to be terrorists.  Daily Kos: New York Post falsely fingers 17-year-old high school student in Boston Marathon bombingSomehow though, Quora has found people who actually care, and stuck them all into one mini community who contributes to each others lives together.  But that's just one of the many ecosystems on the internet.Don't let yourself be a fool.  Prevent these fallacies yourself by reading The Etiquette of Social Media: How to Connect and Respond to Others in the World of Social Media.

Has the computer revolution changed society for the better? Why or why not?

I think it definitely has changed our society for the better. Nowadays, it's so much easier to communicate with other people via internet, phones etc. than ever before. I feel like today, all the people in the world are somewhat connected to each other much thanks to the computer revolution. Also, it's much easier to find needed information and educate yourself. Before, in order to do that, you'd have to go to the library, archives or somewhere like that to get information, it could take hours for you to go through the books to find the much needed information. Nowadays, it's only the work of minutes. You just enter a phrase to a search engine and get thousands to even millions of results almost instantly. As a result, our way of thinking and level of education have improved enormously.

Internet society?

i agree.
I think the internet's a great way to get to know people's TRUE personality, and their TRUE thoughts. Otherwise, in reality they just hide how they really feel and think because it's more in person one to one than on the internet.

I like that last bit, that internet society is what many people imagine the world to be.
It's true. On the internet, things are more..civilized. In reality, civil has no meaning anymore, which is a shame. We were all taught better than that, but we never pertray it.
It's all about appearances and first impressions.
There are so many idiots on the ineternet! Especially on picture rating sites, jeez.
Great discussion!

How did computers and the Internet change people's lives?

I was born with delayed verbal comprehension. For most of my childhood, I was thought to be partially deaf even though hearing tests proved otherwise, or even "dim" or "slow" mentally. To combat any possibility of being mentally deficient, my parents enrolled me in school at the age of 3, and while I credit this schooling for my 140+ IQ, I still had problems relating to other children because I couldn't keep up with conversations, and throughout my childhood, I had few close friends.I am a visual person living in an auditory world. We use sound to alert us of many things - sirens blare, telephones ring, alarm clocks wake us up, and the primary function is that of verbal communication. Because there is typically a delay of between 2 to 5 seconds, I prefer written communication. The internet has opened up my world. Before Instant Messages, forums and social media sites, I hardly ever interacted with anyone. I just couldn't keep up. I even met my fiance online, and I was able to show my true self to him through written communication. We've been together offline for 6 years now. Due to the internet, I will be able to attend online college courses. Sitting through classes and listening to lectures I could barely keep up with has been a stumbling block in my ability to further my education. I can travel because I can look up maps and directions, and read them rather than try to keep up with someones verbal direction.Because of the internet, I was recently able to get my first published work out. I am able to interact with people I may never have been able to engage in meaningfully, let alone ever have met. I no longer feel isolated or unable to form friendships due to the inability to keep up with conversations.

What is the impact of computer in our society?

The invention of the computer has completely changed the way we live our lives. Nearly everything is controlled by a computer; cars, satellites, phones, etc. Computers have made our lives easier. For example, the internet. Before, if you wanted to find something out, you would have to ask someone who knew the answer, or looked it up in a book. Now we can just flip on our computer and search it in google.
