How Have I Got Green Eyes

Where do green eyes come from?

I think the jury is still out on this question. There are theories but I don’t think anyone really knows for sure. One thing science seems to agree on is that until somewhere between 6000 and 10000 years ago, everyone had brown eyes. I am not sure how they know that, but that is what they say.At some point there was a mutation, and lighter coloured eyes began to appear, probably in people who had moved well away from the Equator and who had started losing melanin in their bodies.Dark brown eyes could become amber, and a combination of the yellow of amber and blue pigments became green. It was once believed that the brown eye colour was dominant and a brown eyed parent would only have brown eyed children, but now science knows there are as many as 16 different genes that contribute to eye colours. My mother’s father had extremely dark brown eyes but of his six children only one was brown-eyed and the rest were all blue.I inherited my green eyes from my father, but his parents and all his siblings were blue eyed. When I was a child, my eyes were quite a dark pure green. With age they have faded to a certain extent. They are still green, but the yellow/amber isn’t as strong. When my father’s eyes faded, he lost more blue than yellow, so his eyes became more of a yellow tinged green. So until science advances more, that is probably as much as we will know, and I am one of the 2%.

Well, not exactly green, but Hazel. Here's a picture of me, 21 years old.Regarding how I felt having green eyes?I would never wear kajal in fear of looking feline.I would always be an example for a recessive character when teachers explained genetics in school.I would be often astonish people and clear their misconceptions by the fact that it's not lens but my true my eye color.I face a lot of starres and multiple glances from strangers for the same.I always admired black color :P

I have green eyes and both my parents have brown eyes. How is this possible?

Here is a good summary of how the genetics of eye color work:Understanding GeneticsThere are at least two separate genes that determine eye color. One gene (let’s call it A) comes in a brown and a blue variant, and brown is dominant to blue. The other gene (let’s call it B) comes in a green and a blue variant, and green is dominant to blue. Meanwhile Gene A-Brown is dominant to Gene B-Green.A simple way to think of how this could work is to imagine that everyone has a background set of eye-producing genes that make a blue coloured eye (ie blue is the default colour for human eyes). Gene A produces a pigment that when added to the blue eye turns in brown, while Gene B produces a pigment that when added to the blue eye turns it green. Both Gene A and Gene B have “broken” variants that sustained a mutation that prevent either from producing any pigment at all. Thus if you have a working copy of Gene A, you produce a pigment that turns your eyes brown. If you have a working copy of Gene B, you produce a pigment that turns your eyes green. If you have a working copy of both A and B, you have both brown and green pigments in your eyes, but the brown being darker masks the green, so your eyes look brown. If you have non-working copies of both A and B, you have no extra pigments in your eyes and your eyes are the default blue. This may not necessarily be exactly how the genes actually work in real life, but as a simplified model, it works well enough. So, how can two brown eyed parents have offspring with both green and blue eyes? Both parents can have their A and B eye colour genes like so:A(Brown)/A(Blue) and B(Green)/B(Blue)This would result in both parents having brown eyes, since both have at least one A(Brown) gene. But a child of theirs could inherit the A(Blue) allele from both parents, as well as the B(Blue) allele from both parents. This child would therefore be:A(Blue)/A(Blue) and B(Blue)/B(Blue)With only blue alleles, the child will have blue eyes.Another child could inherit two A(Blues) but at least one B(Green) from one parent. This child would therefore be:A(Blue)/A(Blue) and B(Green)/B(Green or Blue)With at least one green allele and no brown alleles to mask the green, this child will have green eyes.

How come some Indians have green/hazel eyes?

Light eyes are common in parts of North west India (Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, northern Gujarat etc). Not so much the North-EAST (as that is the territory of Mongoloid people) but more North-WEST as North-WESTERN Indians have more Western Eurasian genes. They are also common in Northern Pakistan and Afghanistan.

If you look at a map, you'll see that India is not far off from Afghanistan where green eyes can be pretty common, so the most likely scenario is that light eyes were carried to India via ancient trade routes when cultures would meet to do transactions on the silk road.

It's not as simple as green eyes being passed on from the ''British''. What makes it complicated is that many Indians also have the same ancient ancestors as Iranians, Turks and Afghans, especially because groups such as the Scythians and Huns migrated to India from Ukraine during the ''Indo-Aryan'' migrations. Those groups were documented to have bright blue and green eyes but mixing with the Indian population would result in the dilution of those genes, and thousands if not millions of Indians could hypothetically produce at least green/hazel eyes.

Muslim dynasties like the Mughals ruled India for several centuries, it was not uncommon for the princes to have harems full of able-bodied young Indian and Persian girls and they had many children. Light eyes could pass on that way too.

Both of my parents have green eyes, and I have brown eyes. How did this happen?

Eye color is determined by genes which come in a spectrum of dominance (the most dominant gene you poses is the trait you display) green is dominant over brown, you get one gene for each feature from each parent for a total of two both parents have one green eye color gene (thus green eyes) and one that is recessive (less dominant) you didn't get ether green gene which means you got the two recessive genes and of those two brown is ether the only one or the more dominant and so you have brown eyes despite your parents both having green eyes

Why does Rihanna have green eyes?

There full black people go again, thinking they can have beautiful light eyes without contacts or being mixed. Let me comment about the Aborigines (who aren't black) before they start chimping out and saying blacks can have light hair too.
