Vertical Jump for high school girl?
I am 5'7 and am 16 and at the beginning of my last track season my vertical was 21 inches (that was off of one foot though cause i was way more used to jumping off of one foot). Is 21 for a vertical good, bad, average? also i have been playing a lot of volleyball this summer and was wonderting if i tried my vertical again and jumped off of 2 feet if that would increase my jump? thanks
My height is 5'11". My vertical jump is so high that I can catch and hang to the ring (10ft), but when I do the same with a ball in my hand, I almost reach the ring. What should I do more of to dunk?
I am 6'1'' and my jump is the same as yours, so due to slight height advantage, I am able to reach just a bit higher. I have tried to dunk many times but have failed again and again. To dunk properly, you need to reach at least half feet above the ring so that you can accommodate the ball in your hand and still grab that ring once done. You should work on your jump, that too with the ball to adjust to its weight and grip before the final try.To increase your jump, I would suggest a rigorous course, targeted towards your lower body. More power will lead to results in my opinion, and don't loose hope or miss practice ever. You 'll need positive attitude and hard work to make this possibleGood Luck Bro!!
Is there a limit of how high can you jump vertical?
Yes, of course - we’re constrained to some degree by the physical limitations imposed by the Earth’s gravity and the fact that we ourselves have mass.It seems as though somewhere around the 50 inch region is where humans reach the limits of their vertical jumping ability. However, the fact that we have limitations has nothing to do with wether we’ve come anywhere near them ourselves.I personally have trained my vertical jump casually for years, and more intensely over the past 9 months. During this more intense training, I was able to add 4 inches to my 30″ previous max vertical, so I now have a 34″ maximum vertical jump.I still have a long way to go, and the only way to get to my personal maximum potential is to work hard over the long term.More about the training required to make gains in vertical jumping ability here (including the workout I used to put 4 inches on my jump in 9 months):This Ultimate Frisbee Workout Will Make You Unstoppable - Ultimate Frisbee Training (it’s tailored to ultimate frisbee players but the exercises are actually taken from volleyball and basketball jumping programs - jump training applies universally to all sports).
How much vertical does a 5' 11" need to dunk?
Measure your standing reach (max touch with arm in the air flat footed). It should be approximately 7'8 or thereabouts. The rim is 10 feet tall so you need to jump 28 inches to touch it. Depending on your ability to palm the ball you will need somewhere between 34-38 inches vertical at least to dunk. If you can't palm the ball and have to dunk 2 handed your vertical leap needs to be over 38 inches. Vertical leap is actually measured standing but the run up figure is more important for dunking as you will be attacking the basket to dunk in a game. To dunk with good consistency and in a pressure situation you should shoot for a 38 inch vertical for a 1 arm dunk and 42 inches if you have to dunk 2 handed. To increase, do these 2/3 times a week: Ab work like crunches, sit ups, ab curls, planks Upper body exercises like military press, bench press Lower body exercises like squats, jump squats, deadlifts pylometric exercsies such as box jumps off 1 leg and 2, sprints, depth jumps, standing long jump Dunk practise and regular testing of your vertical leap helps you stay on track. If you manage to dunk on 9 feet for example then 12 inches more vertical will be dunking on 10 feet.
How can i improve my vertical jump?
they are a lot of ways to improve on your vertical jump> If you don't like to do squats and lift weights here are some fun ways to add inches on your vertical. Rollerblade, jump rope, running in a pool, jumping up and down 20 times after running up and down the court once. Never use ankle weights, they are bad for the knees. As for your height usually by the age of 14 your shoe size can give you an idea because your foot stops growing first so if you have a size 13 shoe you will be in the range of 6'2-6'6. Its not exact but it gives you an idea. And also if your parents are tall, that most likely means you will be tall. Good Luck with the hops.
Ok..My standing reach is 90" and I am 5'9. How high does my vertical have to be for me to dunk a 10' rim.
standing can get 7 1/2 feet so that's atleast 3 feet to do a basic dunk as your wrist needs to clear the rim and lets say your hand makes up about 6 inches so 36 inches to just be able to get it done depending on your hand but more to do it well and hit a high percentage of them good luck
I'm 5'6 and can touch rim whats my vertical?
Depending on racial background (because of slightly different limb and torso ratios of each race) your arms could be up to one inch shorter or longer than the average. So I'll give you how to measure your own vertical. Base is measured from you standing straight with one arm raised as high as you can reach with your heels still on the ground. Take colored chalk or some wet paint and apply it to the tip of your middle and ring finger touch some vertical surface in the manner described above. Now, from the same spot, jump and touch the wall again as high as you can reach. Measure the distance between the top of the first to the top of the second. That is your vertical. Your vertical is not the same as your running high jump. Another name for a vertical is standing high jump. Do not confuse the two. I, at 5'8" can grab the net from a vertical but I can grab the rim from a running high jump. My vertical is 24". Yours is probably somewhere near that.
How high does My vertical leap need to be to dunk a basketball, if Im 5'8?
Don't listen to other people on here who have never even dunked and are giving you advice... I have dunked, and many of my friends have dunked, so i know what it takes. Anyway... When i was 5'8", my reach was about 7'6". A rim is 10 feet, so that means that you would have to have a 30 inch vertical to touch the rim. To dunk, you need at LEAST you wrist above the rim, which is typically around 8 inches. For shorter people it may be a little less. So i would say you would need at least a 38 inch vertical to dunk. But, if your reach is taller than 7'6"(you should measure it) then you will have to jump less, and if your reach is less than 7'6" then you will have to jump more. My reach is 8'0", and i have a 34 inch vertical, meaning i can get 10 inches above the rim and i can dunk. It is different for every person, but i would say you need 36-40 inches to dunk( i mean dunk, not tap it in like some people think dunking is.
Measure my vertical jump plz?
Well, it is really good! However, it is tricky to measure a vertical jump. You must subtract the length of your arms, but then add the height of your head To be able to jump that high means you jumped 4 feet and a few inches. Subtract your arm length, though and add head length. Just get your jump to 4 and 8 inches (for a little wiggle room) and you could dunk.
