How Long Are The Days In America

How long did it take in 1800 to get from Ireland to America by boat?

I just asked this question, sorta. I asked from spain to america and the answer I got was 8-12 weeks, depending on the weather. Good weather would be about 8 weeks, horrible weather would take about 12, and everything else would fall in between.

How long would it take to walk across America?

It would take you pretty much all day to walk 50 miles.
and lets say youre walking from new york to california, thats 3000 miles.
so it would take to 60 days or 2 months.
but honestly 50 miles a day is a LOT.
so id probably take longer.

An average work day in America is 8 hours. How long is the average work day in other countries?

OECD has some great data in this area. For interest, Turkey appears to have the longest hours according to their dataAverage usual weekly hours worked on the main job

Is 14 days enough to visit America?

In two weeks you can do a light skim over a large area, or a deep dive in one area. I know some people who recently spent a solid month just in NYC, going out almost every day - they didn’t come close to seeing what they wanted in just this one city. And FWIW - I’ve lived in the US for over 50 years and been traveling around for most of that time - I still have never visited Yellowstone (our most famous national park), Mt. Rushmore, Sequoia, Death Valley, the Florida Keys, and so many other places. If you’re doing a light skim, you should realize that a cumulative total of several days will be taken up just with flying. NYC to LA is a six-hour flight, plus airport time on each end. So that takes most o one day when you include checking in to your hotel and unpacking. Do that a few times and it takes away from your sightseeing time. And if you decide to try to take in Alaska and/or Hawaii then you’ve got even more travel time. But a decent light skim over the US would include a 4 or 5 days in the East (NYC, Boston, DC, Philly), a few days in the middle (Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, maybe Denver), and a few days on the West Coast (San Diego, LA, San Francisco, Seattle). And already we’re beyond two weeks. So I’m thinking maybe a deep dive - spend two weeks on the East Coast, return for two weeks in the National Parks in the middle, and a third trip to see the West Coast. That still leaves Alaska and Hawaii - I guess that’s your fourth trip!

How long would the titanic have taken to get to america...?

Liverpool, UK, to New York, is 3108 miles. At 24 knots it takes 5 days 8 hours for the voyage. Titanic's normal voyage would be from Southhampton and Cherborg to New York, not Liverpool.

Why do many Americans get two days off for Thanksgiving?

Thanksgiving is one of the few holidays which always falls on a certain day of the the week, in this case Thanksgiving falls on the 4th Thursday of November.Going back to work for one day after such a large holiday would be both inconvenient and largely unproductive, so many employers and schools just give the Friday off as well.

How long did it take to get from England to the American Colonies by boat back in the 1600's?

We're doing a project in ELA (we hav 2 write a diary for someone going 2 the colonies) and i was wondering how many days it would take (roughly) 2 get from England 2 the American Colonies by boat in 1645-1690.

How many days off do Americans get for Thanksgiving?

As many others have said before, the answer varies. In certain jobs you get no time off. It's treated like any other day. At the opposite end, some people get an entire week off. Usually those are schools, because they’ve come to realize that people who want to travel to be with family would otherwise take their kids out of school rather than miss the opportunity to spend time with loved ones. I have even been told( but can't confirm) some schools in the San Diego area will close for TWO weeks, because families drive into Mexico. By and large most people get Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday to celebrate Thanksgiving.

Why are U.S school days so long?

I start school at 7:30 and end at 2:30. I then have track or cross country practice all year after school until 4:30. At school alone, I spend 7 hours. With after school activities, I spend a total of 9 hours. Every day I wake up at 6 am and leave for school at 7 am. I get home at 5 pm, eat dinner, do my homework, watch television if time allows, and then go to bed by 10 pm. On the weekends I work and volunteer for the majority of the day. During the summer I take online classes and work. I’m exhausted and I can’t tell you why I’m so busy. I can’t image adult life is that different other than maybe not having to wake up at 6 am (which is terrible). High school students are expected to work, volunteer, participate in clubs and sports, and do their school work well. I think I’m expected to be an adult too soon. I have so many responsibilities and no time to relax and do what I like such as playing video games or play my cello.I’d say school is so long because it was meant to prepare children for factory work life and to basically babysit them. Factory hours were long and monotonous, just like school. Now that we’ve added a whole bunch of out of school activities that students are expected to participate in, it has just crunched the time a kid has to be a kid. I’m 16, not 32. I don’t want to be an adult yet and for good reason.

How many days on average do Americans take for vacation annually?

The vacation varies from company to company but with most companies you get one week the first year and 2 weeks for years after that. There are not as many standard holidays in the US as there are in other countries. If you are at a company a long time, like 10 years, which is unusual, you may get a third week of vacation. This is very different from europe where as far as I know, 4 weeks is standard. In some companies, like where my girlfriend worked, though they give the vacation, they don’t let employees take it and in other cases employees accrue it but don’t use it.
